What would you like to see added to WoW?

This comes up all the time, but in another thread about story and lore people brought up gameplay features and I wonder how the ideas change and wow changes and we change.

So what would you like to see blizzard adding to wow? And for the sake of keeping it interesting, lets not just hope for miracles and try to acknowledge if there is some difficulty with the idea. For example:

  • New hairstyles or having island expedition maps accessible for RP - really no issue, private servers do this stuff all the time

  • Adding a second head or neck slot for transmog so you can have both a scarf and a hat at the same time - some difficulty in spaghetti code I imagine

  • World revamp - obviously a massive undertaking worth at least entire expansion

You get the idea. Also remember that nobody in blizzard reads these forums, so if somebody brings up the best idea in the world, dont get your hopes up.

New Pandaren models. In a seamless world it’s just not nice to have the neck glued to the shoulders.

Dungeons available without NPCs for a full raid-group of players. So many amazing places like Scholomance, Karazhan, Zandalari temples, Wailing Caverns, etc. All just oozing potential for exploration during events, none of them usable if you have more than 5 people wanting to participate. What a shame.

Weight + heigh slider.

Boob & bulge & cake slider.

World revamp.

Ditch leveling on retail, it serves no purpose anymore. That, or you make leveling an integral part of the experience, similar to Classic.

Class redesigns and reworks- Keep evolving the game.

Do something about addons. Make the base UI better.

And above all else, BRING BACK FACTION WAR, BLOOD GUTS AND VIOLENCE. Kill the old cast, usher in a new set of heroes!

Some ideas…

  • Revamped character models like in WoD, including the allied races AND The Pandaren who still run with MoP graphics with 3 additional fur-textures brought in by Shadowlands I think.
  • Proper scaling technology, its a miracle blizz still cant get that tech done properly. Or pure incompetence, both might be equally true
  • Given that we get housing, I sure hope that we can build the homes proper and not just use “prefab 1” and “prefab 2” for the outline and shape of the house and then just adding a bunch of random assets as details. If I want to have a house, it shall be my house as I imagine it, not some asset-flip-stuff.
  • More rentable private instances like that club in Valdrakken. Just a bit bigger and with different themes. Like a spa area etc.
  • World revamp to get rid of the whole Cataclysm-stuff, especially the painful pop-culture references everywhere.
  • Make all reps accountwide, same as resources. Not just transferrable between characters, but truly accountwide. Earn with one character, use with another. Without transfers.
  • Get rid of most of the ingame-shop by making things available ingame (Like the guild name change soon, the barber many years back etc.).
  • Add good stories and good worldbuilding so anyone who is slightly invested into the stories dont have any headaches when they try to understand and make sense of the world.
  • Add a “roleplayer-only-layer” akin to warmode. Switch it on and roleplay in peace. Maybe even with the option that said “roleplay-mode” enables raids within dungeons and removes certain npcs.
  • Of course also better storylines and generally worldbuilding. Its bleeds my heart as an author to see so much crap added as stories into the game by people who dont know what they do or write. Even Metzen has kinda fallen, and while his influence can be felt, I dont think that he is on his best side with TWW. More like a shadow of himself.
  • Make the Horde relevant again. We have had so many things now being about the alliance and its members mostly while the horde either plays second fiddle as poor villains or get outright ignored. Where are our orcish, trollish and tauren boys now? I want to finally see some good horde-colored stuff and not “Alliance and elves of various breeds”.

This is a very small suggestion in the grand scheme of things, but I think some interactions and emotes/commands for Battle and Hunter Pets would be really nice? Such as /sit, /sleep, one perhaps for their idle animation. I think that would be quite nice for roleplay and general immersion.

= Tone =
Make it darker and sexier and more vulgar, but keep the good heart, be more like Baldur’s Gate 3. Brusque, black-humoured and open, but kind deep down. The kinda game that’d inspire a religious moral panic in the 80’s. It should feel dangerous and rough-hewn.

More this -

Lately, when making new characters, I feel like making Allied Races instead of the base ones. Why? To save me an hour of having to get through the tutorial. There ought be to an option to skip it.

= More Human Cultures =
At the moment, Human civilization on Azeroth only fits into a Medieval European archetype (and even then, Northwestern European). Non-Western cultures are almost always drawn upon for inspiration for some sort of anthromorph or monster race. Rather than the Alliance acting as a kind’ve Eurocentric/Model Minority sink, as opposed to the Horde’s Western Society’s Other, I’d like to see more human nations and cultures that draw upon a wider variety of inspirations.

Diablo does a great job of this as a world, and something similar to that would be fantastic.

Warcraft’s developers were heavily inspired by samurai movies during the late 90’s/early 2000’s, and it’s interesting that there’s no direct Sengoku Japan analogue for example. You can draw upon other archetypes too less experienced in most Western Fantasy, such as the Aksumite, Maurya or Majapahit Empires. The point is, humans aren’t culturally simple - there ought to be more diversity.

= Horde Humans =
If the Horde had humans, you’d probably have more Horde players, as people gravitate towards the familiar. You could use Alterac, or perhaps a faction of Arathi, to achieve this.

= Revamp: Orgrimmar =
If they’re gonna do a World Revamp, I think they should turn Orgrimmar into a city that’s actually pleasant to be (and more importantly for us, roleplay) in. Something less Warsong Hold, more something half Conan, half The Citadel from Mad Max. Reflecting a Horde that’s evolved and incorporated its various elements.

I’m thinking chrome metal, adobe, rooftops gardens of colourful thorned plants, decadent shaded bazaars filled with smoke and music, aqueducts with falls to create a contrast of water and fire, stronghold of civilization surrounded by a rough and unforgiving wilderness.

= Revamp: Stormwind City =
By contrast, I think they should make Stormwind more like a city that’s dirtier, lived in. Something that feels more medieval, less Disneyland. They can easily borrow elements from the Warcraft movie for inspiration, as I think that nailed the look and feel.

= Reboot: Timeskip? =
Alternatively, a timeskip. I’d love to wander through the ivy-tangled ruins of Stormwind, reduced now to something like Midgar at the end of Final Fantasy VII. The passage of time would be a good opportunity to introduce new characters, too. The Alliance’s new capital could be a rebuilt Lordaeron, with the Forsaken still living in the sewers underneath it.

= Gameplay Philosophy =
I think crucially, they should remake the game so that leveling from 1-80 -is- the journey, and that a new player can get into WoW and immediately get a good grasp of the world, the story, and their character’s place within it, just as in Vanilla WoW. You shouldn’t just play a character, you should feel like them as you’re playing them.

It’d be interesting if the Horde and Alliance were retired and replaced with two new race agnostic factions with a genuine philosophical divide at their heart. Perhaps an authoritarian empire versus a ragtag coalition of nations. Of course, that might strike too hard at Warcraft’s established identity, so that risk would be great. But, at this stage of the game’s life, why not go bold?

= Body Type 2 Facial Hair =
Facial hair options for Body Type 2, so you can play a wider variety of characters. Body sliders or more body shape options.

= /Cpose =
Something like FFXIV’s /cpose system, where you can adopt different postures and forms of body language, such as leaning or resting hands on your hips. It’s versatile enough that you can even change how you sit or lie down. More /emote animations.

= Ranged Weapons =
The ability to use ranged weapons as Warrior and Rogue, and Rogues can use shields/bucklers (an abandoned idea from Classic). A Tanking class for Shaman, too. I’d like it if hunters could dual-wield melee and ranged weapons again, like proper rangers. I’d love to see the return of throwing weapons too, if only as something you can glyph on to throwing abilities.

= Custom Dungeons =
A Neverwinter Nights style custom dungeon system, perhaps using similar technology to Doom 2016’s SnapMap thing.

= New Races =
Playable Naga, Arakkoa, and Ogres.

= Eyewear =
Eyeglasses/goggles seperate from helmet/hat options.

New emotes.

Lots of new emotes.

Edit: And more variations of the /sit, /sleep, /dance etc. emotes.

Every class needs a minimum of three glyph sets/“class skins” that change the appearance of its animations and spell effects.

I also really want to see a set of quests that go from 1 to max level for both Class and Race (likely also split by faction) which would have their own cast of characters involved and take you through the world. Not just ‘class quests’, but class questchains, long running ones, that they can take from expac to expac, and ones for races too.

Sometimes they’ll be relevant to the expac situation. Sometimes they won’t be, and that’s fine, but little things that give regular updates on every subfaction in the game and serve as a solid introduction and throughline at the start? Preem.

“Doesn’t that mean a lot of alts to see all the content” yeah I guess so.

I guess I want class and/or race representatives who are explicitly not faction leaders or in super major positions of power (so not Liadrin). People who can show up to help regularly, but are Captains or Sergeants or the like, not Highlords and Archmages.

Body types, even if they’re presets like in the style of SWTOR instead of sliders. With the new noggenfogger potions, we can then fine tune things if one body type preset made you short + skinny, but you want to play a character who’s tall and skinny.

I want glyphs to reskin abilities in style of the Warlock Green Fire, because I’m under no illusion that they’d make questlines for every class like that. I want blue fire for mages, silver light for priests, so on and so forth.

I want emotes in style of the NPC ones. Almost every race at this point has the guard stances and lean emotes, because ever since Legion they’ve slowly added new NPCs of every race that make use of that emote rigging. Playing around on Epsilon, I’ve seen an extremely wide range of different NPCs emotes that are usable by the player animation rigging, if they just make it so. Also make a unisex and culturally appropriate /dance2 for every race that is not a pop culture reference. Humans already have the ballroom dance that’s shared by males and females and usable by players if you /dance by the dance floor at the Norwington Estate.

I want allied races and their primary race to have interchangeable customisation (beard, hair, tattoo, necklace) options. Dwarves and Dark Iron, Mag’har and Orcs, Kul Tirans and Humans/Worgen, Draenei and Lightforged, Highmountain and Tauren, Nightborne and Night elves, Blood elves and Void elves, Zandalari and Trolls — so on and so forth. With humans it’s particularly egregious when Kul Tirans have the one (1) hairstyle my character has IC!!! Let me have my braid Blizzard!!!

I want a system that allows us to learn languages. Elixir of the Tongue is cool and all, but it doesn’t allow us to understand languages of our own faction. As a mage, the ARcane Language glyph gives me a way around that, but not everyone plays a mage. Tie it to a rep grind—get exalted with the faction or whatever. They did it with learning Furbolg, they should extend it to the home factions too to make those reputations relevant again.

Please and thank you.

There’s some useable by goblin players specifically through Undermine items…but they also work just fine if you use toys to change your race to other playable stuff. Literally no reason for the restriction other than FUN DETECTED :bomb:

was so sure that furbolg was the testing ground for this tech only for them to not do it again in TWW. Maybe Midnight, when we unite the elven tribes…

Spell skins. Gimme Nature effects for Mage spells, Fire for Druids, more Shadowy stuff for Shamans, even Drust magic for DKs and Warlocks.

I don’t really want class skins to just be a thing you buy. I want green fire quests.

Keeping it in mind that some of these were already mentioned, perhaps in greater detail, my wishlist is:
Massively overhauled character creation with height sliders, body types, greater customization for all races and not just the generic trio. (Yes, Atahalni didn’t stutter when they said THOSE specific ones.) More varied voice options, too.
1:1 copy of Wildstars housing, including the total freedom of placement, the massive plot, and the community plots. I know we might be getting SOME of that, but I want all of it.
Hotrods outside the Undermine, and their increased speed / boost / drift systems turned into an alternate ground mount traversal, like how dynamic flying is for flying mounts. If flying horses can barrel roll and gallop through the air, you can make ground mounts do sick drifts. Honk, even, why not. Give me jetpack / wing mounts while at it.
I won’t pretend I have an inkling about how game balance works, but add more fun specs that drastically change how classes play. Give rogues a sniper spec, give warriors a grappling fighting game character spec, that kinda deal.
Bring glyphs back by just making it a spell customization system. Recolor abilities or give them new effects. Both, actually.

That’s it for game changes I can think of, beside playable races / class combos, that is. I’ve opinions about the writing too but that’s a can of worms I don’t feel like diving into.

More quests are always cool, but I’m not sure I’d want to gate Elunite silvery moon priest magic behind a quest when it’d be nice if all NElf priests could just pop to the AH and buy a set of glyphs for it instead at level 2.

So I guess it depends on the skin.

dyeable gear, like how FFXIV has it

the only answer that will never be made reality

That reminds me, maybe once they are done with the heritage armour for each playable race, perhaps something that could be quite nice is heritage attire in a similar vein? Maybe something more akin to everyday clothing or fancy regalia inspired by the different racial aesthetics.
