I heard there was a “controversy” about them when they went to blizzcon but I wasn’t playing back then, I tried to research what happened but couldn’t find anything.

someone tried to cannibalize on blizzcon? wow… that’s extremely rude and unacceptable!! 
Apparently there was some guy and his wife who were at Blizzcon, that got attacked by two horde players because the guy’s wife was wearing an Alliance sweater I think. I remember a big topic about that.
As for other Alliance players being attacked I don’t think that happened. But I think there were slurs directed at them and stuff, and one of the devs mocking them? Apart from the Cannibal Corpse video that is.
And the Cannibal Corpse video stirred aloooot of drama, to the point even Mike Morhaime got involved and apologized for the incident.
I hope they were alright.
And for those who attacked…sad cases, to be perfectly honest.
What started as harmless bant has been taken way too far.
I wouldn’t describe the the little speech from the singer as harmless bant.

No, but the whole thing between Horde and Alliance started out and should remain, as online/internet banter.
Taking it to this extreme, is unacceptable and I hope the police were called.

From what I remember of the entire thing it was mostly people trying to blame the band for stirring up violence or something which is as hilarious now as it was then.
The only people responsible were those goons that attacked someone.
