Is there a difference? Can someone explain to a dummy? Because I’ve asked before and found it far too confusing.
Void is a fancier word for shadow
… Atleast for how i get it
Not sure if there’s a real difference anymore when it comes to a “shadow” priest - we might aswel call them void priests or something.
But the way I’ve always seen it was void being the absence of light where as shadow there is still some light(or you wouldn’t be able to cast a shadow).
The only difference I can come up with, is that Void is the “domain” sort of, while “Shadow” is the magic that comes from it…
Kind of like “Light”, and the magic that comes from it being “Holy”…
I think void means the lack of both light AND darkness. Where as in the warcraft lore light and darkness are two opposing types of matter, the void means no matter at all. Kinda like darkness against light and the void fights both of them.
Void is part of shadow.
It’s all shadow, the magic warlocks use, the old golds, the void lords, etc.
Void is part of shadow so in other words
Void is same as shadow but more specific, but shadow isnt always void.
Void is the emptiness in space it’s another domain/realm completely , with other inhabitants .
Shadow is from the realm of order our realm
That’s at least how i can perceive this .
No.
Based on the cosmology map, they are pretty much the same.
Light and Shadow are the most fundamental forces in existence. Although contradictory by their very nature, they are bound together on a cosmic scale. One cannot exist without the other. Pure Light and Shadow dwell in a realm outside the borders of reality, but shades of their presence are found in the physical universe. Light manifests as holy magic, while Shadow (also referred to as “the Void”) appears as shadow magic.[2]
There is a difference between the Light and the Void.
While their end goal is basically the same, there is a difference in the way they go on about things.
For example, the Light would only support those who believe their actions are just, but left unchecked, it will go down the path of fanaticism and total obedience.
The Light end-goal (judging from Xe’ra (MU and AU alike) mostly) is total obedience.
Also, the Light tends to perceive a single way of how events should be and follows it as close as possible.
The void on the other side, does not really have the same requirements, however, being as unstable as it is, it usually drives mortals to madness.
The Void’s end goal is Consumption.
Also, the Void perceives many possible timelines and ways of how events should be and tried to follow them all (hence why I said the hing about mortals going mad. Hell, even dragons are not immune to that.)
Void is purple and spawns void tentacles, shadow is dark and is quite literal death hence the shadow lands
I like this view point.
Considering void priests had originally nothing to do with the void, and that whatever link warlocks had with it was considered to be shadow, it’s safe to assume that the void is but a recent invention of Blizzard’s which they’re trying to shove into the lore as best as they can…
if my point of view is right, i think the world of azeroth is fecked. u see the legion represented the dark, their never ending war with the forces of light kept the balance in the universe and now with the darkness gone, the light is the only faction standing against the void, which is why blizzard is slowly introducing the void, i think in the feature we will be forced to recreate the legion. this is why demon hunters exist i think, with the legion gone, us DH’s are the only ones left who still have the weapons they possessed, and warlocks of course.
Its meaning changed over the years. Shadow used to be shadow, a type of magic on its own. But then shadow became attached to the powers of the void. Its basicly the same thing now
I didnt read all the comments so maybe its said already shadow priests used to be unrelated to the void and its whispers. And warlocks used to have shadow spells as well
I am glad that I am a simple death knight - I either have diseases and plague, keep beer cold with my ice and drink blood on my off days after the beer.
All this fel, chaos, void is too complex. I much preffer simple things like frost, fire, arcane (while that last is odd one on its own, it least in warcraft makes sense) and then we have elements from nature - like water, air and what else the shaman use. And druids throwing some leaves around. Solar and lunar energies make some sense too.
But … fel, chaos, … whaaaathevvvvvah
It’s in the names, really. If you know the English language. You can also observe how the game portrays them.
You just need to accept that it is fantasy and not physics, then it shouldn’t be confusing.
Can you articulate what you find confusing?
Please , aVOID this.
Shadow is kindda dark. Void is so dark it appears there is nothing at all.
So yes, the Void is Shadow dialled up to 11.
