What's the worst decision made by Blizzard?

Upright orcs. Its just wierd ans they look goofy

I’m not talking about mechanics now or ā€œgame difficultyā€, but this is what pvp was about apparently in the earliest version of wow (this channel always get recommended to me)

And this is Arena now:

I Played Versus A Bot In Dragonflight Solo Shuffle - YouTube

These were dungeons before M+:
Black Rock Depths Close Disaster Run! (DEATH = DELETE) - YouTube
This is a dungeon now:
Neltharus +24 | 3.1k rio - YouTube

Am I wrong, when saying the focus of this ā€œmmorpgā€ got shifted away from fun/epicness to esport/tryharding?

Adding Arena.
That’s what kicked-off the E-sports desire for Blizzard.

That would be okay, but the visibility IS a problem, red swirlies on the red ground, purple on the pruple ground, blue on the blue, white on white… it would be hard to see them even without being an old geezer and having a bad eyesight :unamused:

The Great Vault

I’d like them to go back to having more gear drops from doing content rather than playing the lottory. Also never understood why the ilvl from the vault is higher than the content you do (for mplus anyway). Kinda forces you in there which I also dislike.

It started in Pandaria with coin for additional roll which was farmed with weeklies. Before, as a raider, you didn’t have to do anything besides raid. At that time, it seemed not so important, but I think that it was the beginning.

It amplified in Legion with AP farm. Artifact Power is very important. There was time when casual players run maw hundreds of times to grind AP.

And, of course, M+ loot system, which provides an alternative to raid gear with unlimited farm.

So to me, worst changes were those which prevented raiders to raidlog anymore. I lost many friends and did not adapt to the new reality.

Disabling EXP lock for previous expansion max level (level 60).

And this…

Raid finder. I just returned from a break and did Abberus on raid finder, my first time doing it. It was lame as hell. The whole format of raid finder ruins it.

I can imagine if that raid was done the way they used to be done in TBC or WOTLK, i.e you slowly work your way through it, each hard earned kill rewarding you with a further peak into the raids sprawling interior, it would have been awesome, but experienced through raid finder it just completely ruins all the atmosphere and sense of epicness. Abberus is as good art wise as raids like Ulduar, it is the format of raid finder that ruins it. You just see it all with 0 effort in one evening.

2nd place for me is ā€˜ā€˜Bring the player, not the class’’. I much, much, much prefer when classes are unique to one another. They have lost so much uniqueness compared to classic. It’s the main reason I prefer classic, the classes all feel so unique. When you have your own special thing you can do it feels awesome when you use it to help others.

Third place would be the general change in dungeon design. I loved dungeons like the original blackrock depths and maraudon, huge epic dungeons with loads of quests. Now they are just a chore. Doing a dungeon now feels like I dunno… wiping the surfaces in the kitchen down, just a easy boring task you just get done and out of the way. I remember spending 8 hours in BRD in one session back in the day and it was like no other gaming experience I ever had. Suppose dungeon finder adds into this as game is less social in general, so dungeons like that wouldn’t really work as well these days.

Getting involved with Activision.

You are correct.

Legion is the expansion where Blizzard completely changed their mindset on many core aspects of the game. You and I agree, for the worst.

Reworking outlaw rogue after BFA.

Single handedly the worst decision ever made that led this game into the most garbage expansion I ever had to pay for; shadowlands.

Personally I’d agree. I have to add that the pvp rating system in vanilla was awful tho, in that sense I get they went with a different approach. In a way arena did seem closely linked to the very active duelling scene during vanilla.

I think a different issue, at least how I experienced it at the time, was that during vanilla times if you didn’t raid, you still had so much to do. People made their own fun too, I remember plenty of absolutely pointless adventures with friends and guildies just for the heck of it. During TBC the ā€˜raid or die’ vibe started picking up speed and that changed the game somewhat for those who are not hardcore raiding fans and were more about roaming the world, the journey etc.

I’m unsure whether this is simply a natural development for a game, or whether certain systems fed this development, whether it’s a combination of both, neither, something else…

The removal of reforging / valor (its orginal form) / standard gem slots in epic gear

Theyve continously chased a fix to replace the deletion of these, and the dev time used trying to do this imho has resulted in a worse journey

WOW tokens.

Did they have rating? I thought their version of pvp is just running around in the world and fighting skirmishes, or doing epic large scale battles. I don’t think arena is bad, but I think it being the ā€œholy grail of pvpā€, where blizzard puts all rewards and tries to funnel pvp people into it, is a big mistake. This is also accompanied by bobby’s failing esports vision
