What's with Malfurion and his new cinematic model?

Did you see him in the Valdraaken quest line?

So, he looks full of life and juvenated in Battle for Darkshore cinematic - that matches the druid lore and elf fantasy, but then is wrinkly and tired looking in the new questline, unlike his wife, tyrande… wtf?

Well, which is it blizzard? Aren’t druids supposed to be full of life giving magic? and arcane magic that enhances life? - and aren’t they supposed to have hibernated most of their life? Surely no one should look fresher, healthier and younger.

I get they want old looking night elves, gnarly too, but isn’t that better suited for hunter males, warriors and rogues? not druids, priests or magi?

  • also I don’t get it, Malfurion is going to sleep for a second time? Didn’t that happen before? And what happened to his Emerald dream powers?

He simply hasn’t really featured or been used well in-game, not since well WC3, and off course the books. but like 1% of the playing population reads those.

I don’t feel the character is bad, he’s just been tossed aside - They should oscillate between Khadgar, Thrall, Malfurion and Anduin for main male leads, and then Jaina, Tyrande and Sylvanas for main female leads if you ask me.

Other good characters under utilised imo.

Wrathion - looking like a solid character to use.
Alleria Windrunner - after all that in the return, no use?
Prince Farondis - excellent arc, good introduction, not seen since.
Genn Greymane - been used well when he has been around, glad he’s on a break.
Illidan Stormrage - be good to see him again.
Turalyon - greatly underused atm.
Thalyssra - doesn’t feel like the Thalyssra from Legion
Talanji - after all that - completely quiet, another character arc well presented but silent.
Prince Erazmus - would like to see a lot more of him.
Baine Bloodhoof - they need to fix him somehow.
Aggra - feel next to nothing for her, hopefully more.

And that’s just for characters.

In the character focus, I feel the richness of warcraft is lost when races aren’t focused on.

We could really use some major time on the playable racial factions, delving deep into them, like we did for Covenants and the Dragonflights - flesh them out, tell some good stories for their characters and race, progress them, develop… and hopefully some of them would actually have some really cool stuff --except for night elves, they have to be wiped out again. Genocide number 3 and tragedy number 100 x. Everyone else can have good stuff :stuck_out_tongue:

I never noticed…he looks the same to me.

TBH I’m more bothered by Merithra. I mean they are setting her up to be the new green Aspect and she has bog standard model and seems to be wearing old Wrath gear,
So what’s that about!?

Probably about to get killed.

Prob,

Totally misued/underused . great WC3 and War of the ancient entries, and like the rest of the race, including Azshara - just meh - even legion that had some impressive stuff, didn’t fully utilise them. Although Illidan did get a lot of building which was good.

You mean with all those massive world threats, we couldn’t find a moment to use MAlfurion? and Tyrande could only manage a side quest 20 years after her introducion in War of the Ancients and Wc3? Azshara, handled in a patch, and only Surmar to show for all of the night elven accomplishments before the sundering, and burnt/corrupted forests to show for all the Long vigil accomplsihments.

Farondis, Maiev, Jarod, Shandris, Thalyssra, Occuleth, Valtrois - - persona non-gratas most of the time.

But yes, please more of Jaina, Anduin and Sylvanas with Khdagar. it seriulsy undermines the stuff htey wrote about them and the roles they were playing in WC3 and the books.

N o wonder people either don’t like them or don’t care.

Blizzard has a long, proud tradition of “forgetting” about characters that are not the focus of the current expansion. And they tend to “forget” about characters who would render their current storylines unusable.
Malfurion by definition cannot be utilised well because he is so powerful. Malfurion could end a lot of the conflicts by himself, but is not allowed to participate most of the time because it would destroy the story the writers have set up. Much like a lot of other characters. By all means, Khadgar should have helped the Night Elves at the beginning of BfA. This was not a time to remain neutral, there was a clear aggressor at a time when this aggression was counter productive to what was happening (THA WOONS bleeding Azerite all over the place). Khadgar could - and should - have stopped the Horde war machine in AShenvale already. But that would’ve stopped the faction war from happening, so Blizzard conveniently forgot Khadgar existed. Or any of the other heroes for that matter.

So certain characters not appearing in the story doesn’t even register with people anymore. It’s just Blizzard conveniently sending them onto a vacation so they cannot interfere with their stories.

Ugh, this is so lazy. Horde gets new aggressive Warchief, Night Elves get slaughtered again. And in the end nothing changes because player factions can never truly be defeated. There always have to be playable Night Elves or Orcs, so nothing will ever change. This is why I think faction war stories are stupid. There will never be any suspense, because the outcome is already written before the war has even started.
I still hold on to my opinion that BfA would have been massively improved if it wouldn’t have had a faction war and instead focused 100% on the corruption of Zandalar and Kul Tiras through N’zoth.

This might have even set up Sylvanas as an anti-hero like Illidan. She could’ve busted Zul out of the stockades, creating hostilities between the factions, in order to kickstart N’zoth’s corruption manifesting earlier than planned. And to have both Horde and Alliance in place with new allies to fight the Old God with combined strength, only for N’zoth to have a plan B and escape to the Shadowlands with the help of the Loa of Death, Vuvu’zela.

Just think of the opportunity to have Sylvanas - the Saturday morning cartoon villain from Cataclysm - actually do good for the people of Azeroth for once? Sure, it’d be somewhat morally grey, but the outcome would be that her character would have a lot more depth IMO. Also it could’ve helped set up a much cooler Shadowlands, where the Black Empire is seeping into the afterlife. No weird justification why Sylvanas would even think of serving the Jailer - just straight up simple “otherwise questionable tactics against an oppressively powerful enemy” storytelling.

Anyways, rambling about BfA again. I love Tyrande’s new model. It’s perfect
