I’m just cleaning up some side quests I didn’t do yet. I just picked up two quests, one to cull some predators and one to engerise some rams. Both quest are right next to each other but don’t overlap. So I can’t do them both at the same time.
This seems to be more and more common. You pick up two or three quests and they’re each done in their own segregated area. It just feels like they’re designing the game to deliberately waste time. I know the whole point of playing a game it to pass the time but this just feels bad.
The quest areas on the minimap actually touch, it’s very deliberately designed to be right next to each other but not overlap.
Used to be you’d get 3 quests, collect 8 shinies, kill 12 baddies and rescue bob from that cage. They’d all be in the same area. You do them all at the same time.
Is this a new philosophy taught in Game Design classes? Is this just the old meme of Fun Detected in practice?

Yes let’s make it so Bob the Questgiver keeps giving you the same quest in the same zone so you don’t ever need to see the rest of the content. And then we’ll have the complaint that the Quest designers don’t have any variety.
If anything, the main TWW story quests has pretty much all in the same zone it’s just side stuff that isn’t and is optional.
If we go back to Classic, the Ring quest was one of the most epic first starting quests spanning several zones, dungeons and explaining the whole Defias Brotherhood background to boot.

Of course not all quests should be in the same quest area. But when a guest giver hands you 2 or 3 quests each in a small area, they could make them overlap a bit.
And yes in Vanilla quest design wasn’t great but they iterated upon it. By TBC and certainly by Wrath quest design was much better.
I can remember vaguely the ram quests being in the same area tho, with the predators just a very short distance away snacking on a ram.
they’re right next to each other. It’s not a vast distance to travel.
But it’s been like this with some other quests too. I’ve just noticed it in the last few months, even in DF there were some quests like this.
Not all the time. Some perhaps some quest designers are doing it like this and other not.
