Whats wrong with PVP

I love Wow pvp but i also hate it! I thought id put together what i think is some of the issues. you may agree or not agree.

If i was a new player i would nope out of PVP instantly.

  • Mandatory Add-ons: Weak Aura, cool down trackers, arena frames, etc etc You should not need any addons to compete in PVP. If you do then the base interface isnt good enough. It must be so overwhelming for a new player when they see this.

  • Screen clutter: There’s so many abilities going off at times its hard to see whats happening. Pair this up with addon interfaces and alerts its just a mess.

  • Gearing: Although its better than it has been if youre late into a season it can take a long time to get a conquest set so it means days and weeks of pain getting smashed.

  • Elite sets being time limited. Your class isnt the Fotm then you can forget getting your elite set. I wish the werent time limited but still require elite rating. Its no different from farming mythic when the expansion is older. It removes incentive.

  • Button and ability bloat, again from a new player perspective can you imagine having to learn how to counter all the classes abilities etc

  • Immunities, some classes have them some dont. There needs to be a balance. you notice it more on large group pvp. Paladins can run into group fights and do a bit of damage, DKs and monks may as well just hang at the back.

  • Russian premades: enough said.

-Crafted Pvp items. Its not clear on what you can and cannto craft. My friend rejoined for a bit and was utterly bamboozled as to how many items he could craft. he didnt even kow you could turn items into tier.

  • Epic battlegrounds: If it wasnt for the conquest rewards would anyone do them? Alterac valley isnt even pvp, its just cap a tower, wait a bit, kill the boss. Isle of conquest is just awful, Ashran is just a zerg fest which is desperately unfun for melee, least range can spam aoe spells from safety. Remember strand of the ancients? I would must rather see more capture the flag/ arathi basin variations. Seething sore is pretty awful too.

CC - I still think theres too much CC. When monks, evokers and paladins are all in melee range druid can spam CC. Its not fun not to be in control of your character.

Class balance: I wont go into in detail.

In game guides: there needs to be more in game instruction for new players. where to go, how to craft, how to purchase, how to upgrade etc.

Healing: Its really not in a good place right now.

Yes to a lot of this.

One good thing they fixed at least was not having to really PvE to get PvP gear, and a decent system of improving your pvE stats on your pvp gear too.

I also like how there aren’t multiple levels of PvP gear - just two levels now.

If I could implement one fix it would be to scrap having 2 pvp currencies. It just makes pvp a pain. If you don’t want to stay in “blue” gear you are forced to do content you don’t want, whether that’s arenas or epics. You turn up to a BG and people are geared way better than you because they’ve played a different kind of content. If you enjoy BGs but aren’t good at arena or hate it, you’re stuck in lower gear.

By all means keep rated and competitive content, but just have one currency and let everyone get purple gear. An easy fix might be just allow people to buy conquest with honour at some ratio e.g. 3 to 1.

Yeah, the sets should have just used a token system. Hit the rating and you get a token to pick one of any elite sets for that class.

There is a fair amount of eltie sets i fancy. But didn’t have the time to particiapte in their respective pvp seasons.

What needs to be done here is to decouple pve from pvp. Make the specs mostly the same across the two game modes if they must. But never let balance in one game mode affect the balance in another.

I also miss Strand of the Ancients.

Mobility is another issue. Some classes have none, then you have others pinging around all over the place.

I used to love PvP. Haven’t been able to vibe with it since MoP/WoD.

are u sure that’s how it works? lol
1800 is like a starter rating nowadays dut to the mmr inflation

Would you prefer the addons were built into the wow interface itself or that they wouldn’t be needed.

I imagine tracking when your enemy has used certain abilities is vital info.

My only issue with PvP is that there isn’t a fun / casual form.
Wintergrasp in Wrath came close. I could join in drive around a vehicle or just run around in a pack of others just attacking whoever.
I probably wasn’t doing it correctly or helping much but I was there taking part and having some fun. Nobody was harmed by my lack of skill. And I earned some rewards (got some heirlooms and some other stuff, don’t remember - was a while ago). Sometimes we won, sometimes we lost, either way I got some rewards for my time (even losing didn’t feel like a waste of time).

I think they need to find a way to integrate the addons into the wow UI. Something like a cooldown tracker for stuns and interrupts is massive if you dont have the addon. It becomes less about skill and more about what addons you have.

They need to implement Omnibar to track cds. Trinket tracker and copy gladius as the arena frames

With the way Mythic+ works with very high mobility and CC requirement, it seems impossible to me mechanically to make PvP good, unless they have separate Talent trees, which would be terrible, because your class should always play the same, especially, when it’s so complicated. Either they do a massive pruning, or they should just give up on arena imo.

However, RBGs are way more similar to M+, when it comes to desired class mechanics, and it’s impossible to really track other class cooldowns properly in RBGs as well. I think going into the RBG direction and reducing the knowledge you need from other class cooldowns, and rather focusing on objectives and playing your own Char well fits the current class design way better.

I think some classes are made for modern wow and some are still at wrath stage. I feel mage, warrior, demon hunter, paladins and priests are doing ok design wise but classes like Monk, warlock, death knights and shammy need a good look at first. not to say that the good classes dont have issues. i mean a warlock could maybe deal with one melee at a time but its mobility lets it down. Shammy and dk have really poor defensives too and unholy has too much ramp up.

Also if youre a lok you have to hard cast yet a mm hunter can out range you and unlock without even having to stand stilll.

Do you reallise how powerful the said classes are in the right hands ? they can be broken so i doubt they will be making changes any time soon

First off too much CC , being stunned for an eternity or unable to play your class is really not fun.
It really boils down who can pull off the CC chain first , it’s so boring let me play the game.

Melee is way too strong , I pvp as a lock like I have done since Wrath. But they’ve given melee so many abilities to litterally stick to my a$$ the whole time , a fear ? helps but they can leap , charge , steed , roll back onto me no problems.
Meaning again can’t play my class properly , me screaming down a mic at my team mates to peel them off me.

Lack of variety in bgs , also keep getting the same one’s. I did 12 random bgs last night , 5 kotmogu , 6 silvershard mines , one AB. Why does Blizz keep throwing all of us into those 2 most of the time ?

Low lvl mmr vs boosters , it just sucks you can clearly tell the other one is getting boosted low hp , crap gear , whilst simultaneously being pummeled in a bis geared toon. I know Blizz can’t do much about that.

Evokers suck , I don’t mean they’re bad. They just make the game far less fun playing against them xD

Lastly I really really miss having unique pvp sets. Since WoD it looks the same as pve raid tier sets. Why can’t we have our own distinctive sets anymore ?

This always used to be the case, I believe it was at the end of the season you could then buy the epic items with honour, so it took you longer to get caught up but you could at least get there at some point.

I’d love to see a random BG option that was just instant play, no rewards or anything, just playing for the sake of enjoying the game, each class joining with the same baseline gear, no advantages, no disadvantages, no premades… just 2 equal sides, separated only by the skill of the players on the team. I’d be in there constantly.

Ive been playing my warlock in skirmish tonight for the weekly pvp quest and it wasnt fun at all. First macth double warrior, couldnt kite at all and they chewed through my shield, second match double bm. done a bit a damage but they turtled and came back and destroyed me. Third match rogue and paladin. Meanwhile i was paired with a mage, then a shammy, then a monk. Why play a lock when you can unload most of your damage as you come out of stealth. It doesnt feel right.

For reference i jumped on my ret paladin and won nearly all the games i even 2v1 in one game

I’d prefer the game were simpler so more people can play it without addons.
Having addons constantly flashing on my screen in arena like a las Vegas slot machine is not fun but i use them because i have no choice.
Without them i lose.

theres too many modifiers and abilities in current wow that fire off simultaneously as proc or used abilities that all dont telegraph with any visuals or show on addons like bigdebuffs cause it only show 1 condition a time, so people have to fill the rest needed with auras and some are too vital yes

i think theres too many modifiers with procs and abilities that are overlaping with not even half of them have any clear visual, the game is currently like so that someone does 20k dmg without stacked billion modifiers and then next 120k with everything lined up, its bit overwhelming if one doesnt attempt to track the conditions and even if they do :dracthyr_shrug:

It must not be to easy to get epic, i like it as it is. But they could remove the limit on conquest at the beginning.
Blizzard should work more on pvp, more battlegrounds without pve. Make pvpers earn more, like in pve. Make it possible to reach full potensial as solo player, thou taking longer time, but possible. I play only random bg, i hate the premade group system, not allowing me to sign up for epic bg, like the way in random bg. Therefore im stuck, not getting more of the goodies to earn. They could make it so, based on item level. Now you need other players approvel, or being in a guild doing rbg, and not having their group already.
Other than that, i love pvp, and its the only thing i like in this game. It should be hard, it should be possible to tune your character and interface in many ways, and actually i like searching for different addons and trying them out. But, yes, some could be implemented as default.

Well they can’t balance PvE how we expect to fix PvP ?
