I play for the most part melee DPS roles, it’s more fun
A Bacon and Lettuce one with mayo and grated cheese.
Failing that then DPS.
I’ve always loved to play a Knight who says ‘Ni!’
I like playing support dps… that WoW kinda lack. Maybe Shadow Priest could fit that role~ and I definitely wrongly picked my main… I just wanted sparkly Vampire X years ago
For nearly a decade now, I’ve only played this toon. With different talent and gear picks, shaman offers variety even within a singular spec. Anyways, my choices are:
Grouped content of any kind: Healer (resto). I’m fairly proficient and comfortable in the role, and being a damage dealer in grouped content to me just feels like a much more stressful thing to do well.
Old solo content & leveling : Melee dps (enhancement). The speed, the speed! All the tricks I can employ in other specs as well, plus spirit walk and crashing storm.
Max level solo content: Ranged dps (elemental) / melee dps (enhancement). Switching between the two specs every few months for variety / depending on gear drops.
dps > tank > healer
Personally dps is my favorite because it’s the hardest to truly min max and has the biggest impact when you do so. Also in essence it’s core is infinitely optimizable, unlinke healer (not always anything to heal) or tanking (damage mitigation is reactive). DPS is proactive playstyle.
Tank 2nd, cause that’s closer to dps. As a tank you’re in control of the mobs, or you’re supposed to be, but the skill ceiling is very low, and you quickly reach a point where you’re just standing around, doing a simple rotation, keeping active mitigation up, while the dps kill everything. You essentially start to feel carried, cause your carry potential is very low after you reach decent.
Healing. I put this last cause it is most unlike my main role. I do enjoy it sometimes, but very dependant on class. Unlike some other complaints i see, i don’t feel the pressure of being blamed if someone dies. I know the damage patterns, and if people take excessive amounts of avoidable damage, then it’s their fault they died.
On that note, the fact that my playing is so heavily affected by others is insane. As a dps i can just dodge a mechanic and then i am good. As a healer i can dodge it, but pug 1 and 2 get hit, and suddenly i am getting punished as if i misplayed. I get that the point of the healer is the backup, since the actual healing checks in the game, when it comes to M+, are really easy to outheal once you know them, until a certain level. This means that the difference between a good healer and a really good healer is their damage output, and due to healers being low in damage, doubling the damage on a healer, compared to having a dps that is twice as good, is such a small difference.
And the same carry thing goes for healer as well, you’re trying to keep your 3 carries alive, since you yourself are fairly low impact on the requirements to get through a key in time.
This is all obviously in regards to M+, since i have not tanked or healed mythic, so i don’t feel qualified to talk too much about those.
Crafter, does it count ?
Yes.
Tank, for 4 expansions now (i must say with every xpac our numbers get lower) i like how when i join pugs people be like “tank u da best bruda” and sometimes they add me and we chill.
That does put a smile on my face.
