What's your favourite WoW storyline of all time

What’s your favourite WoW storyline of all time?

I’m torn between the Wrath, Warlords and Legion storylines.

I found them really entertaining and never got bored when going through the content to find out what was happening etc.

Even though I’m still doing my very first playthrough of Shadowlands at the moment, I’m now actually also enjoying what is happening with the Chains of Domination, which I just started. Far more entertaining, then having go through the 4 zones to get to this point.

Also I’m a sucker for building up base like content, so the Art of War stuff with the Nercolords, that I picked. I’m enjoying!

Wrath will always have a special place in my heart. I played WC3 and Frozen Throne and just loved that story arch, so seeing its conclusion was a bittersweet moment. And no I don’t recognise Shadowlands as cannon, I bluntly refuse to stain the beloved storyline with that filth. It all ended on top of that cold tower in Northrend as Frostmourne was shattered and Arthas at long last killed, end of story.

Addendum: The blue dragon story arch in Dragonflight isn’t too bad either to be honest, probably the only decent story arch in Dragonflight in my opinion. The rest was just half baked and shallow, interesting but not memorable.

Legion, because that was the only expansion, I managed to complete the final quest, that allowed me to go through Illidan last words. Everything was dramatic, from Vol’Jin and Varian death on the Broken shore, to Vol’Jin passing the Warchief mantle to Sylvanas (I wish BFA never happened and my character awake after a bad dream in the beaches of the Broken Shore :unamused:), Anduin replacing Varian, Ysera death, the Legion invasion, the order halls, artifact weapons, I loved everything on that expansion.
However I could only play it, during my holidays, since I didn’t had a computer :desktop_computer: where I used to live in the UK at the time and internet as well.

Dragonflight is the expansion, I played the most so far, after Vanilla.
I wish, I had more time to enjoy it, particularly, do the the whole story arc.
Holidays started today, I need to squeeze as much progress as I can now

Cheers.

Hmm tough question. I loved the whole Wrathgate storyline. And there was an intriguing questline in Icecrown iirc with the split off parts of Arthas, I can’t remember the exact details, I remember the child part tho. Bridenbrad was very moving too.

It’s strange because overall I wouldn’t say Wrath is my favourite expansion. What is/are yours Puny?

I think I loved WoD most. Really enjoyed working with Khadgar. Even went Human for the nicer garrison.

Legion was also great and ofc Wrath.

Now you reminded me of my most goosebump-y experience in WoW. Frostfire Ridge for the first time with the howling wind, snow and that breathtakingly beautiful music.

It took a while to get there with all the garrison flag issues but it was well worth it

Hmm,

The Ysera death scene was very moving and memorable.

The “A DRAGON” questline but I think they neutered it.

As an expansion, I don’t recall exact storylines but I enjoyed the MoP theme. It was surprisingly deep, reflective and clearly made with love. The new stuff feels like “more explosions and CGI, oh and a talking duck! - that’ll hook em!!!”

Darrowshire for the fact it put on display the more personal suffering of the scourge and the third war. I would say that such isolated nuance (it was a quest, in a during vanilla, far away zone, that felt alien and unwelcoming) is sadly not achievable anymore.

That said i loved what WoD could’ve been, same with Cataclysm, but sadly it didn’t come out right…

that kinda leaves legion. The story in legion was pretty great. Enjoyed Highmountain’s story, and wish it would’ve been bigger/broader.

What a coincidence, the only garrison I developed in WoW, belongs to my Human Warrior, from another account

Cheers.

The beginning of WOD, where we fought against all the Warchiefs. That was Epic.

Taivan…obviously.

I liked most of the Blue Dragonflight stuff, also that one with the Tuskaar who lost his pet.
Also the quests in Frostfire Ridge in WoD with the Frostwolves…so much family drama, very Shakespearian! LOL

Oh lordy. WotLK storyline was fabulous, I think everyone agrees on that. Questing a bit nyer but seeing the LK everywhere taunting you is great.

I loved the revamp of the world because the story was more linear and held my hand through zones. I just like order and neatness, it’s a personal thing. I felt like I understood the story a lot better than in classic, which is very subtle, and I only pick up on now I know what is destined to happen. The end zones are also my favourite and the whole twilight and dragon theme. I just adore Cata.

I loved doing WoD too, as casual levelling goes it was pretty awesome and I loved my garrison. I loved noting the differences and similarities in the Outland and WoD map and learning more about the world pre-shattering. And as you say, Dadgar <3

Legion is probably the best storyline for me, honestly WoW could have ended there. It tied up so much and gave us class quests again. Suramar was awesome (though not to redo I have to say). I feel like it hit peak story there but I am very hopeful for the World Saga.

Not that I didn’t enjoy the other storylines of TBC, MoP, BfA (Not you SL), DF. They just don’t rank high.

I think as a whole the MoP storyline, from start to ‘finish’. It was all very immersive, thematic and it flowed like an actual story.

Actually yes. Been trying to pick a favorite, and now that you mentioned it, this might just be it.

Also fond of Vashj’ir, Hyjal and for a smaller story, Cadet Sendrax.

I love Duskwood’s quests till this day. A cursed forest with a worgen infestation, a manipulative necromancer seeking revenge on the town he’s an outcast of, and a good man, roaming in his afterlife, unable to find a release.

Otherwise, the conflict of a mother and daughter in BfA, where Katherine and Jaina go through a living nightmare to find each other at long last, and bring down an usurper who tries to gain power from their strained relationship.

Special mentions to the Forsaken lore of Classic WoW, who are on their own against all - the might of the Lich King seeping into Tirisfal, the zealous Scarlets who cannot discern friend or foe, and their fixation on perfecting a plague to counter all their threats, while waging a war with the Alliance.

Yep… I love these dark, morally grey stories that have me thinking on who’s right, or if there’s anyone who’s right at all. :smiling_face_with_tear:
