Wanted to do some low keys on my fairly fresh prot paladin tank. Normally I just make a full group with friends but most of them were offline. I usually stay away from pugs for obvious reasons, but I decided to give it a go. My 368ilv paladin had a +8 Jade Serpent Temple key. Had a buddy join on his healer and we find all the dpsers via LFG. I made it very clear in title and info that this was a chill alt run and I had bad gear.
First pull with Fallen Waterspeaker + the big water elemental and I notice I am the only one interrupting. Given how much damage tainted ripple does to the group + people standing in random splash puddles, and itâs grievous week I thought it was best to keep the pulls moderate.
Buuuut, the warlock in the group (who didnât use any interrupts or CC once) took it upon himself to just pull everything in sight.
He kept doing this throughout the dungeon and when we got to the courtyard with Liu Flameheart he though it was a great idea to pull 2 extra packs on his own on top of what we were fighting. He died to aggro, and the rest of us got butchered by all the casts, fears, etc.
I told the warlock to stop pulling for me and his reply was something I canât repeat here without munching a forum ban. I said if he does it one more time I would kick him. Again he said stuff I canât repeat here, so I removed him. We had so much time left (would have been an easy +2 timer upgrade) I knew we could 4 man the last part without him. The others stayed and we finished the key on time.
I get that this was just 1 keystone run, and it could have been really bad luck. But all it takes is 1 awful player to ruin the run, and I ask myself why even bother to join a pug.
For those of you who only play with pugs: how common is stuff like this and how do you find enjoyment in the game if this is a regular experience?
I managed to get ksm on my Lock only pugging⌠Took a lot of wipes and time but eventually managed and are almost at 2100 now. Should be easy as a tank though⌠Some groups have been amazing. My experience is that in Pugs dpsâs expects the Tank to take on the mantle and really lead. Before you start the key, explain the routes, how aggresive you will pull the mobs etc⌠Will help you a lot
This ability is one the dumbest trash abilities of this season imo. Huge group-wide instant dmg and a painful dot, even on low keys and absolut awful this week with fortified and grievous. You can LoS this cast but good luck with that in a Pug group. I think on really higher keys this ability is pretty much an one shot if not avoidedâŚ
Well itâs not like I wasnât leading and I made it clear that I was undergeared and it was a casual/chill run. Also in Jade Serpent there isnât really any routes. You just clear everything. But like I said, when I notice people arenât using interrupts/CC I just pull smaller so the healer wonât have to suffer.
The only deaths we had was because of the warlock overpulling and casts going off. Otherwise it was a smooth run and we were looking at an easy +2 timer despite the wipe caused by the lock.
Iâve just reached 2.8 having pugged most of my top keys and probably 80% of my keys overall. My experience has been mostly positive with keys either being timed, completed untimed, or mutually agreed to be abandoned.
What I feel pugging is like : as a healer my job it is, to cover peopleâs f⌠ups . Sure, anyone makes mistakes, Iâm no robot either, butâŚwhat I have seen sometimes. And if you out-heal it, people will think âowww, I donât need to play well, he will fix itâ
Iâve been playing a healer and Iâm often right up there on the interrupts, despite it being on a 40 second CD, Iâve even topped it a couple of times. Nobody interrupts and they just stand in pools and frontals not caring about anything whilst Iâm sweating my ar$e off trying to keep them alive. No healthstones/defensives etcâŚ
When I do keys with guildies, itâs like Iâm on holiday and I can just freely DPS during downtime.
yeah i have two guildies who are above 2900 and they pug most of their big dungeons. i personally almost never pug, though maybe i avoid it excessively almost. just prefer the vibe playing with guildies and friends.
I have good experience from the pugging most of the time. It happens on occasion to play with pugs who are just bad but it isnât often. Yesterday I had 2 awful groups in TJS.
The 1st group died at the 1st boss then disbanded. I donât understand how can people make it to level 16 and die from the hydrolance ability.
The 2nd group had 42 deaths at the last boss 16 of which were only from the healer. He was just bad. He died 7 times on bosses from avoidable damage. On 1st boss 3 times on 3rd boss twice and on Last boss 4 times. When I asked the leader what is the deal with the healer he said he looked good ilvl and score wise. Which I later checked and I can say it was a lie. My friend said druids are meta or something so maybe that was the reason why the leader invited him. In the end we could finish the dungeon because the group didnât have enough damage to kill the adds in phase 2 at last boss.
So the conclusion I came to is that most of the pug groups are fine with some exceptions here and there.
Avoid these ââguildââ m+ groups, they will report you for anything you do while being bad at the game themselves. If you want to pug m+ just do it with all randoms at your score or higher.
I try to avoid russians as I never had a good experience with them and today was no different. Why did I even invite him to the group you may ask? Oxxx yea because he was a healer and we needed one and what did he do? He disconnected while being the only one to die at the 2nd boss in Academy level 15 on our 1st try and did not return so he busted the key.
I only ever pug and for the most part itâs a pretty good experience.
Around 80% of the time everyone knows what theyâre doing, only a few minor screw ups and we blaze through the dungeon.
Then thereâs the minority of groups where certain members of the team have absolutely no idea whatâs going on - ignoring mechanics, failing dispels, standing in the fire, getting others killed, etc. This is in spite of them having the gear and M+ score that would suggest that they have more than half a brain.
And the worst are the very rare occasions where one member of the group think theyâre better than the rest of you, theyâve got some sort of god complex where they require the entire team to perform to their perfect specifications or else they threaten to leave or intentionally wipe the group.
Stupidity and mistakes I can handle, being an elitist douchebag I cannot tolerate.
Also, never take Russians, like ever. They either fail constantly, disconnect or leave, pretty much every time.
I have personally made this mistake so many times for the sake of a shorter queue and every time after weâre done (or more likely failed to time it/they left), I say âânever againââ but then I invite one again because I want a shorter queue and then instantly regret it. Just donât.
Its not impossible to pug higher keys and this is what I did back in SL when I set myself the goal to complete the dungeons at +20s, without considering myself as more that decent when it comes to my M+ skill.
Unfortunately, I think that burned me since, to the point that I dont even want to think about repeating it again in DF (ill do a KSM and be done with it). Its not because it was a lot of blood, sweat and tears but somehow it was way more toxic than fun. If they decide to cater to the lot asking for +20 and over exclusive rewards in future, they can be my guest really. Eventually that group will be the ones left to play that game.
