3 mobs hitting me in melee. I tab target. Get some mob that’s out of range. Tab target again. Get a mob in range but that I’m not in combat with. I tab target again, get another mob that’s in range but that I’m not in combat with. Tab again, another mob that’s out of range. Tab again, FINALLY I GET SOMETHING I’M IN COMBAT WITH.
Like, can you make it strictly cycle between targets you’re in combat with when you’re in combat?
In the menu Key Bindings -> Targeting, is Tab bound to Target Nearest Enemy?
That should be the default setting. (I use ElvUI, but I’m not aware of it changing the tab-targeting algorithm.) In my opinion, the default tab-targeting implementation works quite well. It seems to prioritize enemies based on:
Whether they are casting, so you can quickly target an enemy you want to interrupt.
How closely they are aligned with the center of your screen, so you can rotate your camera to the enemy you want to target first.
Have issue with it change it to target nearest enemy npc/player takes less time look into keybinding then making this pointelss thread about something what is working.
Dude, no! Being able to target the mobs you want to target quickly is really important in WoW, especially in dungeons and raids. And it’s not just important for tanks; DPS also need to, for example, be able to switch to casting mobs that need interrupting with the blink of an eye
Maybe the OP changed the defaults without knowing it and now things are broken. It’s sometimes hard to figure out what’s wrong, with so many UI options and potentially interfering addons.
Umm, yes. Most people click on mobs health bars to target them. “Oh look, something needs an emergency interrupt, let me mash tab and hope it gets to teh right mob” said noone ever.
Hard to tell, but I think the angle between your character’s facing direction and the elemental position is slightly lower than the one to the boar.
Screenshot #2:
The angle to the raptor is much higher than the angle to the elemental.
Basically, tab-targeting works best if you aim your camera at the mob you want to target. The angle to the mob is the most important thing. The distance to the mob has much less of an impact. I don’t know the exact algorithm the game uses to select the initial tab-target, but it seems the 2 most important things are a) whether the mob is casting, and b) how closely the mob is lined up with your camera.
I think there’s also a maximum distance for targets that tab-targeting considers. If a mob is too far away, tab-target will not work even if you have the mob lined up with the camera.
Mouse targeting is way slower than just hitting the tab button once - you have to move the mouse accurately and key-press; with tab it’s just a key-press. If you figure out how tab-targeting works, it’s very reliable. And it’s not just about speed; if you have a tight pack tons of mobs and you’re trying to quickly target with the mouse, you risk miss-clicking/targeting.
You can influence tab behaviour with your camera, so if you are in combat with 3 mobs, you can move your camera so it looks from the top or just not have your camera so the faraway mob is closest to the middle of your screen.
Also can confirm that if you do not mess it up by having the camera focusing some faraway mob, it will just cycle between mobs in combat in the same order, which comes in handy for maintaining dots.
Also tab prioritises mobs that are casting if you haven’t locked the sequence, which is a neet trick.
Have played well over 1000 dungeons in bfa, and i have mistabbed 5 times or less, so i think it works more than fine, maybe you just haven’t figured it out yet?
