When community animators make better looking cutscenes than Blizzard at all time in WoW

Say what “not that bad”.

The lip sync is atrocious, the movements are just unimaginably horrid and just don’t work like they envision them.

Sure, they do look like ““nostalgic”” warcraft 3 cutscenes, but a game that old shouldn’t be no way a justification for pure laziness.

Look at the amount of cinematic content in BfA for comparison, when only at the end of 8.3 they started to become lazy to the point of making a pre rendered cutscene that lasted what, 20 seconds for the end cinematic? Atleast it was still pretty much clearly rendered and well… 20 seconds of good model rigging, animation and a bit of respect towards the paying customer and more over a player is better than the “”“not so bad”" dooks they put in Shadowlands.

I am not even going to talk about the story they are trying to tell, because it’s just Game of Thrones Season 8 all over again.

Don’t get me wrong, I play the game and I enjoy certain parts of it, however most of it is tied to the constant belief that they can do better, and hope is still there.

Now, I am also a believer in Diablo Immortal and Diablo 4, so take anything I say with a grain of salt, however when it comes to WoW it just plain laziness, my guess is understaffed dev department OR they just pushed all the junior developers, writers and game designers onto the WoW team. I mean, look at the armor sets that Diablo immortal gets and the love that is definately put into them.

While we have a freaking robot chicken, :robot: called something Popo, Poco whatever Pixar they trying to pull here AND LETS NOT FORGET THE LEGENDARY

ITS NEW WATER MAN, WATER WE HAVENT EVER SEEN BEFO.

COOL WOTAR MAAAAAN.

Yeah, right.

Fun part is, I will probably play just like I play now. Boosts for fun, and the rest is just observing with occasional tmog runs here and there. Even that starts to get boring doing it every expansion.

Had to open the YouTube crap 10 times before I got past their moronic, annoying, useless adverts. Don’t do that again. Find a site that isn’t sponsored by the evil GOOGLE. You talk about the great Bliz but seriously nothing compares to how GOOGLE have crapped on us all. I refuse to watch a YouTube advert. Sorry. So I didn’t get to watch your video cus its on the advert sludge feed that is Google.

So seriously… get over it. And if these guys are so good maybe they could muster the dosh to fund their own video channel and avoid the TUBE. I even clicked that Bungie thing and got another crappy advert. YOU DONT GET ADVERTS with in game cut scene. Seriously please give a big fat warning about GOOGLE adverts and videos. Better still create your own webpage and embed the thing so I don’t have to suffer that crap again.

Wanted to make a big point about this cus I actually have very little complaint about the company of Bliz. There are plenty other more absolute drudge buckets of commerce and you just happened to link your post to one of them. By the way you keep chucking crap around like this some will eventually come flying back especially if it causes those controlling Warcraft to cancel the game. It really is time to stop all this knit picking and either play the game and get on with it or shove off.

Stop with the promotional YouTube/Google infestations. Not appreciated.

Honestly, you’ve done well with your animation, well done.

But Blizz have done ALOT better than what you have chosen. Death of Saurfang was a billion times better than your one, you why didn’t you use that as your example?

Honestly, I don’t care about how good the Graphics are. I don’t play the game for the Graphics, I play the game for the storyline and the game content… Blizz need to work on those to get their old players back. Graphics don’t matter as much.

Imo they just need more cutscenes and cinematics. The quality of them are good.

But in some cases maybe let more than 1 person work on them.
Looking at you Garrosh cutscene.

Pre-rendered is extremely wide term.

I’ve always thought that the cut scenes were one of the better things in WoW. The only thing that annoys me is what was mentioned further up - that the mouths don’t synch with the words. But that’s probably something to do with different languages etc as they’re not going to do separate cutscenes for each language the game is played in.

Yeah, I agree. I should have blamed Activision instead. But they still are called Activsion-Blizzard. I am sure one or other leading position could argue for better graphic development or better animations with the Activision parts of the company in a logical way where it makes sense to them.

True. But you can’t tell me, that, for example, reworking old TBC gear models towards BfA graphics (like for example the firesword remaster model) is hard. I know that because I did remodel versions of the sunseeker staff in Blender within 3 days. And even by my limited knowledge I made something better looking in 4 different versions than the original item…

My point being, for a AAA-company, they should have quite the workers for that. Bungie is smaller than Activision (and gladly got away from their Deadline BS) and does better with a smaller studio simply because they primarily use Motion Capture.

You just need some suits, scene parts and some actors play the parts and you got your animation data to let the models dance like a puppet.

Oh no, you had to watch advertisement, like every other user of youtube that is not paying premium… Dear god, what a warcrime

The artist of the WoW video did only upload it there, as far as I know.

Not my animation.

The thing is, that Garrosh cutscene does look bad not because 1 person worked on it but rather because that person worked on it from Home probably bc of Covid-19 and didn’t finish a final rework of the animations before the deadline hit.

As far as I am aware, at least german and english should look perfect, since those languages usually have the best lip sync. But the fact that they used for some ingame-cutscene that are live-rendered with game models the base speak animations is just sad and lazy.

No. It is not.

Pre-rendered means finished video files of cutscenes that have been both gone thru pre-production, production and post production. In detail that means video got planned, produced with quality and then also tweaked in post production for the best quality (color correction, additonal particle effects, post-lighting with special software (like with DaVinci Resolve)

Ingame-Render is basically what is rendered ingame. That can be basic visual gameplay which is not meant in this case) and also cutscenes that use Ingame models and animations.

An example from BfA

Example from Shadowlands

Those are Ingame-Renders. And they don’t look good enough for me, as both player AND media designer with knowledge. The fact that they use default emotes and mouth animations instead of using their own hands to animate the bodies is not “we have no money/resources for that”, that is laziness.

Other Studios with much less market value do a better quality in their ingame-renders.

As examples you can look at the Destiny cutscenes I linked above (which are confirmed all motion-captured, even the player movements).

Another example of ingame-renders that are animated with hand or motion captured, displaying player gear and looks:
