Not in here, but I´ve genuinely seen people claim this about earlier days of WoW. It´s the problem of rose-tinted glasses I´ve mentioned, some people can be absolutely delusional about what the community was like in ye olde days.

Yeah, about that.
I don’t think there truly was a golden age. There are only different ages, and both with pros and cons.
golden age is right now because all my friends play ![]()
I agree with the view of many here, that ‘Golden Age’ is highly subjective and depends on personal preferences. If someone loves faction conflict, it for sure will have been a time where that sort of roleplay thrived, meanwhile others may pick times where casual events had been on their high.
I personally don’t have a Golden Age, I always found enjoyable rp, sometimes easier, sometimes harder.
I fondly look back to my start in rp, since I was part of a lovely big community on a different server and we had wonderful roleplay as well as wonderful meetings irl, which of course influences my view as well.
With the same fondness I view my start on AD, my server had died slowly and here it was so incredibly busy! There was rp to be found everywhere and I loved it (I still do).
In the past years it looks like the amount of events has increased, people creating things and there is something for every taste: campaigns, tournaments, balls, brawls, celebrations of all sorts. There are more action-focused events, events that tend to culture of the different races, events people can simply watch and enjoy, events people can get engaged in, be it in a little fight or to tell a story! On both sides, there are opportunities for casual get-togethers, be it open taverns or meetings at places.
Maybe we even live in a Golden Age, but refuse to see it, since it is different from other times we cherish, but it isn’t necessarily worse! Maybe in ten years, our current time will be mentioned as one - in retrospective, it all looks brighter!
