Evokers are now the first caster hero class. Compared to the releases of monks, dks und dh not many seem to play this class.
Ofcourse not as many ppl play it as monk/dh…
Monk/dh is a smooth playing melee class.
Evoker is a clunky ranged class with zero skill flow.
Also,
Melee classes dominate BG’s.
Evokers deep breath and roots cant be used in uneven terrains or if a little rock or a wall is blocking it making them useless if a melee stands near a wall or on stairs.
Also obsidian scale cant be used while stunned. Youre as good as a honor kill if a rogue gets you if you dont wear a pvp trinket.
Evokers are fun but they lack big in pvp it seems, roll a fury warrior instead. You get insane damage, insane mobility and insane selfheals.
Because it is a weak class in PVP.
I’ve done around at least 500 battlegrounds now as evoker and it’s unviable in PVP unless you heal.
And even then druids/priests etc do a better job at survival in pvp.
DPS Evoker feels quite gimmicky. Healer Evoker is a real spec though

This is exactly what I am doing. I really want to like my Evoker. But too many key bindings for too little reward compared to other classes. I played so many classes in the past but evokers seem to be the most challanging one. A warrior charges you, you knock them back and they directly charge back, pile you and you can do nothing. For rogues and ferals you are free kills. DK and DH have are also the first ones that see a freekill when a evoker appears. And sp or locks dot you up and steal half your life before you even are in hit range.
For me this class is completely garbage beside when you like playing a healer.
Lets see how it will evolve. If there are no big changes to all the classes especcially evokers then this seem to be the worst pvp saison we ever had in wow. At the moment it is alot of fun for all melee classes and maybe locks.
Yeah it’s a proper spec if you heal but you still die too fast because you only have 25yds range for healing which means you have to be joint at the hip with people so if someone gets death gripped they’re gonna die along with you because you can’t get to them quick enough.
What happened to you? Youre fire:0
I’ve not experienced this yet. Echo into Verdant and Reversion seems to top people in most cases, and healers have 30 yards on their abilities, not 25
I reached my final form
I’m talking about when you have a single rogue on you for example, you can’t do anything.
Yeah, not a lot of specs can tbh. Rogues are playing the next expansion after DF
Sounds like mage blink getting blocked by a tiny pebble.
Welcome to world of meleecraft boys. Enjoy the ride.
The cc evokers have required you to put a line on the ground first and if there is just a slight tilt it cant be used. Good design… >< I really need cc in pvp otherwise I die in two seconds by rogues and fury warriors hehe:(
Decent amount of preservation, fun and overtuned spec.
Devastation plays really bad. And come tomorrow it’s burst potential is quite handicapped so I can’t see the spec having any place in “real” pvp unless they address 2 things:
-
A pvp talent making fire breath dispel protected/on a lower cd as it is on a 30s cd and you do 0 damage if you don’t have it on kill target. One dispel and lmao.
-
Address the range as you are incredibly easy to swap to and have really bad self sustain with verdant and blossom on hefty CDs.
No hover, no life.
If you thought there were few now, give it a week and you will have trouble finding devastation players.
I enjoy devastation quite a lot =)
Currently I capped all pvp gear with pve upgrades, and I got honor capped too. So I have some experience in BGs with evoker.
The spec has some really cool tricks, but also some serious shortcomings.
On the plus side is the damage and AOE. Melting down fleeing enemies with disintegrate is quite fun. Also when Fire Breath does work, it can be amazing. I often use this to secure kills, charging it up, then releasing when enemies are low enough. I usually come top 2-3 in bgs both in KBs and total damage. But it requires some work compared to classes with execution abilities for sure.
What I really enjoy is to AOE bottlenecks, for example at start of EoTs. Had one crazy game where I popped defensives, Deep Breathed over the entire enemy team, then popped Dragonrage, Tip the Scales turned around and hit them all with a lvl IV Dragon Breath. I did 1.4M damage in 5 secs, and basically melted the entire team with help of some additional aoe from teammates.
The shortcomings I feel are quite severe though, even if the fun outweighs them so far personally. The range is just stupid. There are “technical” situations where you basically are left useless. Turrets in epic BGs or big fights for example or battle positioning. In big stand offs you literally have to poke out from all the other casters, resulting in quickly getting targeted and killed. Even with the mobility, it is often not enough to get a way.
Speaking of mobility, it can be good, but also quite situational. Especially the spells requiring to pick up enemy or teammate. Hover is also easily negated by melee gap closers. It don’t matter if you have two charges of hover when the DK double death grips you back in. So to be sure to get a way, you need to use the entire “escape kit”. Sadly Nullifying shroud has a cast time. It is often needed, but casting it would put you in even more danger.
One tip that helped me a lot, was having a macro for Living Flame that targets myself. So when I need to escape, I try to get melee stuck with Landslide, pop Nullifying Shroud if time, then Hover away and spam Living flame on self. I got it bound to mouse wheel, so I can easily spawn it while trying to escape. In between you can try to cast Nullifying shroud too if you didn’t before.
You have to have your insanity on Advanced to play this unfinished sketch.
All the love went into Preservation, and they still have huge gaps. Much like MW monks in pvp for YEARS.
When it comes to Devastation… looking at things like mages or moonkins or hunters and their toolkits and talents and toolkits , offensive and defensive cooldowns and how often they can use them…you end up feeling like a Wrath of the Lich King spec.
In 2022 , where DKs and Monks and DHs exist.
In a world where you have fire mages with 2 separate Combustion CD reducing cooldowns, and BM Hunters actually have a real interesting ramping up rotation,
in a world where all casters have MULTIPLE CC spammable abilties like fear or cyclone or poly, or scatter-traps ,
in a world where Warlocks have infinite passive healing and absorbs, where mages have barriers and blink and 0 to full HP in ice-block, DB into Ring or just a simple frost nova, where moonkins have roots and stuns and travel form and hots and bear from Enraged Regen ontop of multiple other defensives ,
in a world where priests have absurd dot pressure ontop of multiple cooldowns ontop of multiple defensive cooldowns ,
in a world where Elemental shamans can instagib you with spagetti and meatballs form 100 to 0 in a single global…
In this world the Devastation Envoker does not have a place.
I would be shocked if there isn’t an Envoker class re-design mid through this expansion. Especially after the PvE world first and season1 PvP tournamnets.
in a world where Guardian druid can hit you for 50k crits with moonfire
in a world where DH can avoid and dodge all damage… and then heal everything
Melee have too much mobility, instant cc and anti-caster utility that noone plays casters in general.
When your most used ability as caster is jump, its better to join the melee train for pvp.
A 25 yd caster needs to be immune to interrupts and cast nonhealing spells on the go without cds… lol. Alot of shutdown abilities are at 30 yd range….
