Where is my Cone Of Cold?

All Mages used to have this and it was iconic kiting tool. Why is it now gone? Put longer CD if you think its op, but I dont really think devs play Mages outside their stupid raids.

Or give it back as PvP Talent ty.

You are playing an exp where people play the “spec” and not the “class”.

A lot of abilities do no transfer from one spec to other, despite being known by all mates.

If you want Cone of Cold go frost.

Didnt frost lose coc?

Edit: My mistake. Yes coc should stay frost only

Frost lost a crap ton of stuff…

I leveled one recently and it still have CoC.

Nope.
12 sec CD baseline for Frost.

Fire has Dragons Breath.
Arcane has Slow.

I’ve always preferred Frost for kiting / slowing, it made more sense to me personally.
But it doesn’t really effect the gameplay a ton.
You’re isolating the class and not looking at what else Mages have gained, what other classes have lost, and how an extra kiting tool wouldn’t fit into the meta.

If you really liked that spell go Frost.
Of course, you’re Fire because it’s completely broken, but I don’t see many Mages crying to be balanced in that regards.

Cone Of Cold belongs to all Mage specs. Melees just keep coming back and spam their instant snares. We are reduced to support class now.

With shimmer nerfed in shadowlands it´s even more needed. It should be baseline regardless really.

Mages can´t kite unless they are arcane, and fire would be terrible without greater pyro in pvp, which needs removing.

They obviously don´t play their game in pvp, cause it´s 10x worse than it has ever been, with pruned one dimensional classes, massive passive damage and randomness from essences and corruption. Ridiculous.

Anyone defending the state of classes and pvp is quite frankly deluded.

I miss using cone of cold on my fire mage to get pyro procs using shatter. Those were the days…

I wonder why Shatter didn’t make it back to Fire spec as well. Was perfectly balanced, needed setup and had counterplay via dispels etc. The idea of elemental spec was so cool.

Class Fantasy would be my guess. Although I like the idea of using both fire and ice to destroy my enemies, Blizzard probably wants to keep it simple and separate the elements.

Edit: Also it didn’t have much use in raids since bosses can’t be frozen. So playing fire back then was kind of a gamble with crit%
But I didn’t raid so I don’t care :stuck_out_tongue:

And decisions like that is exactly what is killing this game and driving people away or into a state of psychosis. They are destroying things that worked and were good.

Maybe the logic is that CoC is the equivalent frontal cone ability of Dragons Breath for fire, so that if CoC was available across all specs then Frost would be 1 ability short? I dunno.

Does every spec have an equal number of abilities? I don’t think so

Well no, but if one spec has a bigger toolbox baseline that spec tends to be the one that is favored.

As for flavor of the specs, CoC is a ‘‘pure’’ frost ability, so i think thematically it would make sense that its specialised for frost, like pyroblast is a fire specific thing

I giggled at this.

But OT: Blizzard probably removed it because it was a Frost spell, and they went with spec fantasy that ruined Everything in Legion, so your Fire/Arcane Mage only uses Fire/Arcane spells now.
