Everyone essentially started Season 4 in catch-up mode. Players were able to get 1 Splintered Spark of Awakening from the weekly quest, whether that’s the weekly “Last Hurrah” quest or the PvP weeklies offered by Malicia.

And then you’re able to get another splinter / half-spark from any valid catch-up sources, such as Mythic+, Awakened Raids, and PvP wins.

Next week and thereafter, only one Splintered Spark is obtainable every week. And like Seasons 2 and 3, with the increasing cap on Splintered Sparks per week, and if you ever fall behind you will be able to get Splintered Sparks from any catch-up source.

I had the same troubles week one and people said ’ ah you not gonna use it anyways just get gear from m+ ’ but turns out they were wrong and the full amount was spent.
Oh well we move on

It’s not a serious season I don’t understand why it couldn’t just have carried on like week 1.

I’m not a fan of it either, it makes the game too obviously railroaded to take the progression very serious.
The fact that worthwhile loot is gated behind a weekly vault or some biweekly item that only exists to add the element of waiting for a week to the equation

the whole system feels defunct to me

and then by the time you finally get your gear its reset time cause the next patch is dropping in 3 weeks.

It’s the eternal hamsterwheel - they are scared we stop playing if given everything without limits but I would guess people would just play more, more alts, just more focused towards the end instead of focused towards the next week.

This is mostly a problem in pve imo.
In pvp it doesnt matter, you just have the same gear as everyone else and there is very little gearing pressure which is very nice for a change but also timegated ofc.

In the case of pvp catchup I would say that it would be nice to have a greater amount of conquest per game / bg as the season goes on and the cap to catch up for alts is just incredibly large. but maybe in 3 expansions we will see optimizations to that.
Overall pvp gearing feels better right now to me.

There’s basically 0 conquest item with Mastery on it for Monks.
I’ll have to craft nearly every single one of my items.

Tedious stuff.
