Where's the Magic?

You will excuse me not… wandering into either as… a Human.
I am a little baffled at all of the Horde stuff in this thread tbqh :x Maybe I should have specified that this Alliance Character on which I post intends to be with the Alliance or Neutrals

Well. In the trade of Lochton, the most magic is in finding the relics, which are most likely cursed, hexxed, or blessed, else, other employees of ASAP hold more magic? shrugs

I sympathize with that as I am not fond of Duskwood either, but it is undeniably the most active RP zone on the server now that SW has been handicapped due to the sharding. An alternative is Lakeshire in Redridge, which also has a sizeable RP population these days.

Your other alternative is Dalaran, but that is entirely dedicated to cross-faction and neutral RP and I am not sure if that is to your taste. But those are all options.

Dalaran is absolutely an option, as that is actually where my Character currently lives.

Where else to keep a low profile but the city where every other citizen can smell your demonic studies a mile away amirite

Suppose I’ll give Duskwood another go. After all, 3 years have passed since I last played her :^)

While that’s true, it’s pretty much giving a view of how there’s very few Alliance RP groups that are focused in dark magic compared to Horde.

If at the end of the day you don’t find one (which I hope doesn’t happen), you could always make a small group of warlocks roaming around wherever you please? While it might be a little work to find a group of people to do dark magic RP with on Alliance side, it might certainly pay off - especially if you take it slowly at first.

That’s always been a consideration, unfortunately I am not a leading person. That is me owning up to my flaws and acknowledging that I am in no way fit to lead in any capacity. Been there, done that. Just isn’t for me.

Fair enough! I hope you find what you’re looking for then.

Wait, what?

It’s prepatch, like every prepatch Argent Dawn is subject to sharding like every other realm. As a consequence in the worst case scenario you are actually all alone in Stormwind.

A temporary inconvenience.

(And yes, Sharding is the actual term for splitting players into different layers due to activity - phasing is technically only for when its done for quest progress)

Sharding, not to be confused with phasing, not to be confused with layering.

Hi

In Dalaran, magic-centric guilds will indeed alas be focused on arcane and only approach Void/Fel/Death in a sort of ‘defense against the dark arts’ way; the KTI and The Academy of Magical Arts (very cool guys), to my knowledge the two only guilds focused on academia in the hub, work that way

However! In our guild headcanon, since we have warlock and Illidari NPCs sulking about the surface of Dalaran, it’s only the use of Fel/Shadow/Death that would be forbidden outside of the lawless Underbelly; we have several researchers who are mages specialised in demonology or occultism and study Fel actively, without practicing it. If that is your case, you have a shot in guild like ours; if your character is purely a warlock but neutral or ‘good’, she can still interact with people like us without problem. I can think of a few Illidari and Fel users characters who are regulars of the Dalaran hub and their presence absolutely doesn’t cause a riot

Even if your character doesn’t make it into arcane-centric guilds, she would likely be more than welcome to host little lectures and classes or generally participate in the local academic scene; many guildless characters, or characters belonging to guilds unrelated to the magic scene, partake in it!

Good luck!

I appreciate the sentiment, but as I stated above that is not an option. It has been a while since our last Discord interaction, but it has made rather clear that we as players are not compatible on an OOC level.

I expressly had wished to stay vague in this as per my above statement, as not to bring potential OOC Drama/conflict into this thread, but rest assured as much as I appreciate the gesture, I have no place in the KTI.

We love you too :kissing_heart:
Sorry I threw a dracthyr at you then bolted last time, I was running late to my own event

I’ll be honest - I’m only here because my post was mentioned, I don’t remember your character’s name and therefore have no idea what interaction you are referring to >>
Fair enough though! What I said about the hub and the general community still stands, there’s magic-focused RP to be had there if that’s what you’re looking for

One of us… One of us… One of us… One of us…

But fine. I think once upon a time, there was a Stormwind Mage’s Guild.
Should that be wrong, there is always Dalaran!

It has been a while since I dabbled into Kirin Tor lore, but if my memory serves me right - it is actual canon lore what you have described. You have Necromancy and Shadow magic strictly forbidden, where those who practice are censored, stripped of their power and influence, and banned from the kingdom (Kel’thuzad and Levia Laurence). And then you have whole Empyrean Society, practicing Fel.

Underbelly has always been a location, where Kirin Tor has no control over, as noted by the captain of the guard back in Legion, whom you pay off to make area FFA.

I can second Knells here, AA has a weird interaction with google chrome (Atleast for me) and doesn’t load up / update properly without taking near enough 40 minutes and I have really solid internet. So the coding is a bit outdated atleast.

This is also true not a lot of people from the new generation of Rp’ers (WoD - Present) don’t actually know AA exists so they prefer to do in game activity or browse the forums (Even forum users are minute)

Back in the day there was a lot of House Guilds who have since not been updated / disbanded. Same can be said for the many guilds that was there as well.

Yes indeed! What I meant is that while the use of these magics is strictly forbidden, as you say, it strikes me as odd and even counter-productive that studying them theoretically, to elaborate counter-measures etc, wouldn’t be allowed; plus, in Legion, we pinched a shaldorei soulstone with a literal Dreadlord in it to power the shield around Dalaran, mobilised the entire Tirisgarde to save Meryl Felstorm who was corrupted by Fel, rescued Archmage Vargoth who was possessed, let the Illidari make camp on the islet across Krasus Landing, so it’s safe to say the Kirin Tor has an extensive amount of knowledge on Fel, at the very least.

And that knowledge has to come from somewhere - hence our guild headcanon that scholars researching the occult are welcome in Dalaran, as long as they don’t encourage the use of ‘forbidden’ magics and gear their research toward the common good; a well-beheaved warlock would never make it into the Kirin Tor, for obvious reasons, but they wouldn’t be punted off the edge and into the sea if they were just chilling in a library

Not joining the Kirin Tor is perhaps the best decision any self-respecting mage can make
