Which class is the best for 2s and 3s in WOTLK without raiding?

Here’s my problem.

I currently play Rogue and even though I love the class, not being a raider really hits hard. I don’t want to repeat the same mistake so I’m asking for your help for WOTLK :

which class/spec is the best for PVP when you are not able to log for raids and get PvE gear ?

I can play healer and dps, its not an issue

That is a difficult question, it would by nowadays logic remove warrior from the equation.

Note that back in the day the top ranks also existed with a lot of people who had no PVE gear at all. even warriors. But if you are that skilled and that dedicated, then gear becomes the only difference. And then you will be a sad warrior.

And then there is the niche, as even warlock could in theory get the trinket that keeps opponents forever in combat as long as dots tick, periodically shooting out a volley of small shadowbolts that put you back in combat / breaks drinking.

And almost all castes have those kind of trinkets from PVE. And I think hunters have some bow that has no equivalent.

All those items, have one thing in common: no resilience. So you gonna get fried ever so often against incoming dmg ever so often where the resilience would have mattered. But you do not notice this.

Note also, that pugging raids is very frequently done in WotLK, already 15 years ago this was very common. I raided very very rarely, and then hoped to get lucky, which I did, and when I didn’t I paid like 9001 gold for the PVE trinket from ICC.

So there are always ways to get anything you want. By all definitions, having a few PVE items in your gear is generally considered better. But that didnt stop people from reaching top 10 in the ladder 15 years ago as well, going with full PVP gear.

A bit a long story. Short: no class.

Here a vid from back in the day from some people reaching the top in only pvp gear.

A cool watch anyway, imo.

Back in the day the skill level wasn’t even close to today’s and the fact that everyone today is min maxing didn’t make it easier. I got 70 with this mage 2 weeks ago and started with some s1 parts, blues and greens into the season and even on the lowest mmr you nearly face only people with full s3 and some bis pve stuff.

The truth is, if you want to compete on higher ranks you need to pve.

To keep it simple, you ask for the least PvE gear dependant class/spec in PvP?

If so, my answer is healer, any kind. Probably undead/dwarf discipline priest suits the best the no-PvE gear condition. You don’t need PvE off pieces aside from ICC rep ring and PvE trinkets are nice to have but you will do just fine with Battlemaster trinket.

I’d avoid DPS if you have no options to earn PvE trinkets, especially classes that can be Human. DPS PvP trinkets are utter garbage and by using them, you are at severe disadvantage. Especially, especially and especially avoid playing a Warrior who scales extraordinary well with PvE armor penetration gear.

Stick with your rogue… You haven’t played whole TBC on this class, just to abandon it, when it becomes meta, right?

I recall some famous rogue in WOTLK using level 70 weapons and still owning, Rogue is amazing in WOTLK.
