Which Expansion Had the Best Story

Legion is one of the best expansions in lore and story. It might be THE best.

Wotlk is still pretty good though.

Zuldazar nazmir and drustvar were cool zones

I loved that each storyline ended in a cutscene. I didn’t bother so much on alts though.

As a story in its own right then Wrath.
In terms of storytelling and how it unfolded through an expansion then MOP.
Regarding the quantity of Lore, Characters and Locations then Legion.

Mop had a great story.

But legion is by far the best.

100% agree.

If they wanted, they could make as a multi expansion saga (i have a general story in my head for it.

BFA, especially Alliance side was very very good!
After that MOP is my favourite.

wrath. then MoP. burning crusade. battle of azeroth.

there were other expansions but i wouldn’t put them on this list

as for the BEST, classic (not the cata stuff), https://youtu.be/d4Zrhb0mbO8?si=TMrZfC2R5n9sOYzv does a better job explaining

It is a tied between Cataclysm and MOP really.

Hmmm maybe TBC for me? I loved the belves, Outland, and the Illidan storyline, as well as the quest chains in Netherstorm.
BfA and Dragonflight are also my favourites. Although… as much as I enjoyed the Blue Dragonflight campaign, I found the story a bit childish/simplistic. But overall I loved the xpack, especially the Emerald Dream.

Shadowlands got some mixed reactions from me - I really didn’t like the main storyline but absolutely loved the Venthyr, they were super cool and had the best visuals/swags ever.

Least faves are Draenor and Pandaria.

I enjoyed DF a lot tbh… I know it was focused too much on “family and love and flowers and stuff” haha but I kinda enjoyed it a lot, specially all the Black aspect side and the Blue Dragonflight campaign left me in tears at the end. Then comes MoP and Wrath.
Legion I loved the class campaign, after that was too much Illidan everywhere so I got fed up haha

Oh yeah, Class Halls were so cool! I loved that idea and wish they stuck around. I recently went back to Dalaran as a lvl70 just to unlock the Priest hall and take a walk inside…

Of all time= Wrath of Lich King
Personally = Mist of Pandaria.

Legion had so much with class halls adding to the story for each class specilization and all. Absolutely loved it and all the class mounts and alot of the weapon skins still look best there is, hope they would replicate it somehow in future too, it was fun way of experience story.

Nothing with Arthas. His character is so incredibly dull and single-noted (plus his writing has always been terrible and simple to appeal to one specific type of person).

Cohesive story in WoW expansions has never been it’s strong point, really. It’s hard to pick one that I’d class as “great”. TBC, MoP, Legion and BfA are probably the ones I had most interest in overall.

The only issue I had with class halls was that their were so many lore groups within the classes that didn’t get fleshed out, where I think they should have been.

For example: The Mage Order Hall - deffo should have been a story arc involving the Blood Elf Magisters of Quel’Thalas and Shen’dralar Arcanists of Darnassus/Eldre’Thalas. Know what it meant to be a Blood Elf Mage and a Night Elf Mage in a setting that had strong ties to the ancient Highborne.

I have always thought that after Legion would have been a perfect time to explore sub-specializations and build on the class halls and stories.

Argus could have definitely been its own expansion.

Perhaps, but after Legion - it was a case of “pick your side” and “red vs blue” which completely destroyed all what Legion had built.

I just think - a small quest chain involving the Night Elf and Blood Elf Mages in Azsuna vs Naga would have been great to see.

Watch ancient knowledge (night elf mage) and current arcane strategy (blood elf mage) work to destroy a Naga Seawitch

Wotlk & Legion I think!

That could be something they do in future if replicate the idea of class halls in someway, it could be something else aswell that gives us this feel of being part of something and venture and progress in. Expansions after that have been kinda empty regards that, covenants kinda tried that and were somewhat succesful but I missed legion class halls and didnt see any wpn skins as good as artifacts through the expansion of shadowlands either so legion sill remained best for me on all regards.

Yes for sure, the game rushed from having class fantasy at the forefront to having faction war at the forefront to then dissolve all boundaries between these factions.

I get that it was all probably planned to take place during a set timeline but I would imagine few would be against class halls being an evergreen feature and getting new updates to them regularly.
