Paladin has 1 cooldown in wings that you press on cd, how exactly is that diffiuclt?
Actually, holy priest is excellent in pvp right now. If I were to rank it, Iâd say itâs tied with disc and rsham for second best pvp healer after hpal. You can chastise stun which is extremely powerful, once per 2 minutes you can setup a kill on your own with apotheosis by double stunning, you have a ton of CC with chastise, fear and dominate mind, throughput when you have good gear is high, and Cardinal Mending is amazing. You have powerful instant heals via Holy Word: Serenity with the Miracle Worker pvp talent. Even more so, the damage you can do as holy priest is crazy high, certainly higher than disc. A single chastise + mindgames + holyfire can take half of someoneâs HP, which is very bursty for a healer. Iâve had 10k mindgames crits playing holy in some games, which you will never see as disc (disc does about 40% less damage with all skills that they have in common with holy; even purge the wicked, which is supposed to be a disc-only upgraded version of shadow word: pain, does less damage than holy priest sw:pain).
However, there is a catch. In PvE, itâs very easy to play a holy priest. Itâs super straightforward, archetypical healer. In PvP however, itâs in my opinion one of the harder ones to pull of properly.
As somebody who has tried a healer only recently, I can definitely say that Holy Priest is much easier and more effective in my hands than both Disc Priest and Resto Druid.
When you do that, you are sure you donât have it available for the moment you actually need it
(and holy avenger, bubble +sac, aura mastery are cooldowns too)
If it is for PvP, I would say hpal, shaman, mw monk
These has the least of âneededâ keybinds
If you enjoy being mobile mw/resto druid. Mw is easier to juke, druid feels better to juke
Holy priest has 2schools so you can bait kicks on holy if you are planning to mind games someone, or mind control and vice versa
Disc priest is hard, but really rewarding if you get it to work
Pala has the most of sh*t buttons
I belive holy priest and mw monk has the least
Interesting⌠because I hardly see them It is possible that theyâre just a bit too complicated and players prefer a simple, reactive, wall of steel like a paladin.
See, I had a holy priest alt in 8.2 and I really didnât feel it was straightforward. I mean, sure, doing easy content, you could make do with 3-4 spells, but there are a lot of skills total and when you start needing them all⌠it got rough.
Unless SL made them a bit simpler
I believe thatâs generally true for all healers.
And you wonât see them at low rating. However, hereâs an interesting analysis:
Huh, that is interesting.
Although the OP was asking for a beginner friendly healer, and I do kind of feel that Paladin is probably a better way to see progress easily
(Personal take: I think holy paladins are slow and boring. But they are effective, output high damage, and donât die easily. If you can deal with plodding along like a person wearing 80lbs of steel, then theyâre solid.)
Yes, which is what I said too: holy priest may be beginner friendly in pve, but not so much in pvp. I agree with you that holy pala is possibly best for a beginner in pvp. They really have one mechanic that is pala specific that they need to make efficient: heal as much as possible with holy power, not with something else. Generate the maximum amount of holy power you can generate. Aside from that, rotate between cooldowns and youâre fine.
My point to you was that holy priest is very good in pvp if you know what you are doing with it right now, and if you play comps that favor it.
Iâd say itâs more true for holy priests in particular. The reason is that they are a setup healer more than for example shamans. You can play a shaman quite well and yolo your way to 2.1k in 2s with a decent warrior by simply reacting to whatâs going on, but you canât take an equally good holy priest comp like priest mage and just randomly play like that. One of the biggest strengths of holy priest is the chastise stun, and to use it effectively, you need to make setups based on it.
Caution though: thatâs not to say that to play at the absolute top it doesnât take a great amount of skill for a paladin or a shaman, or anything of that sort. Just that youâre more likely to succeed as a beginner or mid tier player with those than a holy priest.
Donât go disc priest or holy paladin - you need to dps to do healing.
Holy priestis a steaight forward spec.
Rshaman has a lot of tools to wotk with, and a nice mastery to pop mega heals on low hp targets, also strong CDs.
Rshaman is very hot based and might be stresful to play, but in general is very strong healer with a lot of utility.
My recommendation for beginners are always Druid Restoration and Shaman Restoration. These are probably the most straight forward specs in the game plus have plenty of panic spells and defences and can help a healer to recover from mistakes and accidents.
Holy Priest is also very easy and straight forward but I am always put off by a long casting time of spells. I also donât think Holy Priest is as good as Resto Shaman or Resto Druid. I think it sort of lacks some defences and makes it a bit harder to recover accidental pulls etc.
Meastweaver Monk and Holy Paladin are indeed specs where you do healing by doing damage. IMO Monks are more flexible but, due to mana issues, can be frustrating for healing. On the other hand, Holy Paladinâs mana bar should just be meant as a cosmetic feature.
The most enjoyable spec is Discipline Priest but it requires a lot to know about the spec, instance and upcoming damage. It is heavily related to healing by damage and has few tools to recover from burst damage unless a player well predicts the fight, which is not always possible. Iâd say itâs the least recommended spec for beginners.
I played some dungeons yesterday with my Resto Shaman, feels good tbh. I like the instant riptide. Its really pretty straightforward and I like that shaman has the damage reduction totems and a lot of utility spells to help the group like earth elemental.
HPala is kinda confusing tbh and im getting nervous with WoG and the aoe holy power heal.
Mistweaver i played on lower levels (30) felt good but i can not form an opinion if i dont have all skills and stuff.
I dont have priest and druid.
EDIT: Although RShaman is kinda chaotic due to too many skills while HPala seems more straightforward
