Hi, returning player here. I recently started pvp-ing in solo shuffles and some arenas, done only bgs beforehand and since I found it really fun I’m in the process of finding class/spec to main. I’ve gone through some guides here and there and searched through the forums and some reddit about specs before deciding what to jump into. I bumped into the term brawler very often, especially for specs like fury warrior. So I guess it has something to do with their playstyle. I hope this question doesn’t sound too silly, but can you define for me what other specs are considered brawlers and what does a brawler exactly mean in PvP?
There are no brawlers in this game. Brawler has the association to be somewhat more durable. There are no such melee specs in the game. If you mean survivability, I’d say that sub rogue is currently the best brawler.
Outlaw is a brawler, if I’m right it’s what they say when you choose the spec.
Normally as outlaw you are OK at surviving but like said above sub do it better, also outlaw dmg is god dam awful so I would not recommend it.
What you are looking for is more fury warrior, just tunnel 1 guy the entire game you don’t need anything special to kill except uptime (which is extremely easy to get and the easiest on all melee), the dmg is insane rand the survivability as well.
Just play a caster, fury warrior isn’t particular good for a beginner tbh. As a beginner, you will be frustrated on how little damage you do, how little it takes to kill you, and how somehow every range dps can run away from you with ease.
On second thought, I think a Unholy DK would maybe suit you best. They do tons of damage right now, are decently durable, have a lot of utility and can fight from range.
A beginner will never succeed by playing a caster, it’s not as easy as it looks like.
If you got no clue about kiting, doing a setup and fake cast the guy will stand there being locked to death.
The only class that require little to 0 knowledge and playable are fury/bm hunter.
Hi there!
The terms “brawler” and “tactician” were first used (AFAIK) by Skill Capped in terms of WoW PVP melees.
Brawler: a melee that does not retreat, always stays in the battle and tries to overwhelm the other team with damage
Brawlers are: Fury/Arms War, Unholy DK, Havoc DH, Outlaw rogue
Basically, these specs always train somebody and only retreat momentarily f.e. warr leap behind pillar during enemy burst, but 99% of the time are in your face. Usually these specs have mechanics that reset if you stop fighting (f.e. fury warr MS effect) and are sturdy.
Tactician: a melee that utilizes hit-and-run strategy and does not want to overstay its welcome in the center of the battle
Tactitians are: Sub rogue, survival hunter, frost DK, WW Monk
These only stay in melee during setups, the rest of the time kite/survive/do some damage from range, but if they stay in the middle of the battlefield for too long, they might die. These are usually more fragile but have immunities/kiting/range abilities to compensate.
The rest: ret, enhance, feral, etc. are somewhat in-between.
They don’t stay in your face as much as warr/unholy/DH do, but they don’t retreat as much as sub/survival/monk either. They have additional responsibilities, aside from doing damage, such as healing allies, dropping totems/BoP/sacrifice/cyclones etc.
Additional note: in the current meta sub rogue is so strong that it can survive even if it plays as a brawler.
Hope that helps choose what fits your playstyle best.
Thanks a lot for the detailed input! I will make sure to try all of them and see what both fits me best and what i like! I owe you!
