Pretty much the topic. I’ve always played a tank so I’ve been able to solo stuff easily, especially on my main death knight, but I’m giving dps a go and apparently demonology warlock and beast master hunter are the top ones to solo things as. I know paladin is good too, but I already have one and I prefer ranged over melee when it comes to damage.
I’m leveling my hunter now, but my warlock is full level 600+ ilevel which dinged a few days ago, and at least the latter seems both really good at soloing things in the world and delves and feels really fun to play. My hunter has the clefthoof pet for extra tankyness, but it’s really hard to compare anything until full level. The extra mobility is really fun though.
I’m not aiming to be the best player on the server, just build something that kills things fast and uses pets
There are two things I love about hunters when it comes to soloing and navigating tricky areas and those are camouflage and feign death. Personally I prefer hunter pets. But I have no idea how both the classes and specs you mentioned are faring in Delves, and locks have their own great utility so there’s that I wish you a lot of fun either way!
Thank you! I need to learn more about the utility side on hunter, I’ve spent the last week or so figuring out warlock utility to the point where I no longer go “brrt d’oh” and die when things go sour.
I really like the Warlock class on paper, I mean a fire shooting demon summoner, just sounds really awesome, the demon themed mogs look badass too, but whenever I try to play one the playstyle feels like a slow fat mage with a pet.
Hunter on the other hand is my favorite class playstyle wise. It isn’t hard to play, it has stealth (how do people even play without stealth??), BM has various utility (Bloodlust, Mortal Wounds, traps), no casting so you are not as susceptible to the 100 interrupts and CC ingame and the class is quite versatile. It isn’t as tanky as Warlock, but you can kite, whereas Warlock has next to no mobility, so has little choice but to facetank stuff.
As with these “pick a class” threads, it is always best to try both and see what fits with you.
This is all just personal opinion. Warlocks have a bad*ss theme to them but playstyle of a BM hunter is much easier. Downside is that BM can get boring fast. Pressing Barbed Shot and Kill Command over and over can get old fast.
You do have free pick for a pet and can tame the exotic pets that the other two specs can’t.
For transmog the hunter is usually behind in terms of looks. Warlock are way ahead of them.
Hunter has better mobility but Warlock has some nice thematic portals and teleports.
Both have decent defences, hunter especially since the rework.
Hunter have better way to kite mobs/players but that playstyle has to be fun to you.
Warlock gets an army of demons they can summon and use in different ways, every demon has their own special ability.
Warlock can summon party members and create healthstones for everyone.
If you are looking for a fast learning-curve, use a BM hunter. Pay attention to your pet’s health and a small number of dependencies like resetting countdowns on attacks, and you’re good to go.
I find Warlocks more fun ‘as a theme’. It looks bad*ss and those demons are fun. But do not expect any mobility, which a hunter has plenty.
I play all available classes, but my BM hunter is the runner up, after my paladin tank.
Of the two (I have both at 80), i kept playing Demo lock, BM hunter (While less hindered by movement) got boring quickly for me, Felguard makes a fine tank for solo-content, while i had some threat-issues with BM, but that might be because i’m more practiced at Demo than at BM…
