Which professions are best for this RP?

I want to choose my main professions based on my characters backstory but I am finding it incredibly hard not to mix it with class and race, so I am putting it forward to the community.
(It is not the character with which I’m posting this)
The character in question is a young female, an Assistant Professor of Anthropology.
She wasn’t born into nobility, but she does belong to a wealthy, traditional family.
She is the one you would call if you needed a “rebel professor”, with the following expertises: degree, sabotage, and etiquette.
She has no training or ability whatsoever with magic.
So, what professions do you think would fit best such a lady?

Your OOC / Gaming Purpose professions must not match your IC profession, that you have already defined for your character:

Assistant Professor of Anthropology.

Unless I misunderstood your query.

Honestly you can go wild from this. How did your characters family get their wealth, the trading of goods? Would she have a keen eye for clothes? Or did they earn their wealth as skilled jewellers?

The sky is the limit in terms of history. Aerilen here knows basic “herbalism” due to his wife and penchant for gardening.

Go wild. Do whatever.

Do you mean in game skill professions or what is a good name for IC class type?

I meant skill professions, what two main professions would fit her.

As a Demon Hunter, can’t really think of any professions they really would use. But the closest would probably just be herb/mining, as they’d have some knowledge on these (even away from Azeroth) from hunting.

As a DH, I think Enchanting/Inscription (arcane tattoos, demonic wards, sigils, etc) is the best
Dependig on what kind of Elf the DH was before the whole eye poking, demon heart consuming, blood drinking ritual… anything could fly. He was a blacksmith? Duh… Sentinel/Huntress (skinning) Druid? (Herbalism) Worked on those glavie throwers? (engineering)
A humble tailor? Those pirestess need their robes! You made them! And enchanted them! Made jewels? Sure, why not!
Discovered, Zaetar, son of Cenarius, and the earth elemental princess Theradras mated and the Centaurs are their children, followed the path of Zeatar and studied the earth and its riches, ores, minerals, crytals, metals, and became an expert miner?
Literally, anything is possible

I’d say that’s pretty vague and completely up to you.

It is not for the Demon Hunter, as I stated. I didn’t give away the class.

As anthropologist (or any kind of scientist), you will want to make a lot of notes, reports and papers. For this inscription is a good choice.

What kind of anthropologist are you to be, anyway?

A cultural anthropologist, Bronislaw Malinowski-type, who lives among people whose culture you study? Then could could pick up a profession which is typical for those people in order to better fit in. Like herbalism if you are into Tauren (they have +herbalism racial, after all); blacksmithing/engineering if you study Ironforge Dwarves; alchemy (aka “brewing”) is almost obligatory if you have anything to do with us Pandas; possibly leatherworking if you are into uncivilized primitives of any kind like Centaur, Wildhammer Dwarves, Trolls, Mag’hari of Outland, etc. Alternativelly, you could pick more survivilist-oriented professions to improve the odds of surviving in the wilderness, like herbalism, skinning (from the primary profession, the closest thing to butchery; and in Legion there actually was a butchery trait to skinning that would cause meat to drop along with skins, but I don’t remember anymore how exactly that worked) or tailoring/leatherworking (sewing is a survival skill; and for that reason I have this combo on my hunter).

Or do you see yourself more like Temperance Brennan, digging bones? Then mining could be like it; along with archeology it’s another profession working with dirt. Or alchemy to simulate the subsequent lab work.

The best in-game professions for your RP are the ones that give you the most tools to portray your character the way you want them (e.g. with cosmetics).

Thats really helpful! Didn’t think about it from that perspective. She is indeed a cultural anthropologist, rather than a “lets dig up stuff” one, and either way, cooking, fishing and archaeology are a given as they dont take up a main profession slot.
I guess I should then choose to specialise on a race or two which would give me my professions… Ah, the though of it makes me smile.
This anthropologist of mine is an Alliance but she is fascinated by Horde races.
