Hey there! I’m thinking of re-rolling to mage soon, and I would like some suggestions, in every aspects. (Racials, lore) Ty! 
Depends on the spec. If you’d go arcane, lorewise the Nightborne would be really cool. They’re master mages and they have cool racials.
But out of that, I think that majority chooses Trolls because of their haste racial. Could be wrong. I’m interested to see other people’s opinions.

Nightbornes are mana addicted.
But I would say troll cause haste racial.
You can always go panda, cause you know, they are cute.
Berserking obviously is bis.
For racials 
Troll. Everyone is playing Troll mage these days, but remember sometimes racials get nerfed/buffed. So focus more on what you enjoy.
In terms of Lore Blood elf, Undead, and Nightborne are the best.
thematically blood elves and highborne.
in regard to racials I have no idea.
Lorewise?
Arcane - Nightborne (their whole city is based on arcane magic and sources of power)
Fire - Belf (for the sake of Kael’thas’ magisters, they are the majority of NPC belf mages and are keen on using fireballs)
Frost - Undead (chill of the grave - many undead mobs are frostcasters, check the oldschool Plaguelands).

If I were to seriously roll a horde I’d go Orc for its racials, too good in PVP to not have.
Everyone here is gravely mistaken you go goblin fire mage for maximum fire and explosions.
