Which races do you see the least?

Kultirans are a rare species, on par with female dwarves and tauren I’d say

Literally the only reason to play them instead of regular orcs is the dynastic armour.

They don’t even have the dynastic armour saving grace over regular Tauren… They’re just a worse version of Tauren in everything

Same as with Highmountain, they’re just a worse version of regular draenei

Gnomes are cute, mechagnomes are just plain weird and creepy and don’t fit WoW at all

You see quite a lot of Zandalari druids. But it is true that, other than that and a paladin every now and then, they’re simply a downgrade/reskin over normal trolls and you barely see any

For the Horde, I’d say you’re forgetting goblins. You barely see any of them. From the “core” races, they’re by far the less numerous. I suppose that they failed to cacth people’s eyes. Even more after they were what horde got after being stripped of the worgen.

This is my opinion regarding the amount of races I see when I play.

  • Blood Elf (F)
  • Night Elf (F)
  • Human (M and F)

Rare:

  • Pandaren (M and F)
  • Tauren (F)
  • Zandalari Troll (M)
  • Undead (F)
  • Mag’har (M)
  • Goblin (F and M)

Very Rare:

  • Night Elf (M)
  • Draenei (M)
  • Zandalari Troll (F)
  • Undead (M)
  • Worgen (M and F)

They have access to the Vindicaar
Not much, but at least nice view
…and mayhaps one unique horn style? I’m not sure

What an amazing list, thank you very much!

I still think to this day that Mag’har, Highmountain Tauren and Lightforged Draenei should’ve just been cosmetic options for the OG races - and only reason I dont play Mag’har is because their skin tones blends in too much together with armor, whereas green skin dont.

I agree, they should have been cosmetic options instead of whole new races. Those double races really showed the lack of creativity in the team. They could have given us all new allied races but they were lazy and just reskinned most of them.

It sounds cool, but it has a long cooldown and no interaction with any class talents at all. Overall, the passive stat boost to a normal Draenei’s main stat will almost contribute as much damage as the orbital laser, but for a healer will also improve your healing. Also, due to the delay there are a lot of things that can go wrong and the laser will either only hit one mob or fizzle entirely, leaving you with a wasted cooldown. I race-changed my Paladin to LFD and kind of regret it due to how much better normal Draenei are.

The best racial ability for LFD currently is the +5 to Blacksmithing and the ability to summon a forge at the Darkmoon Faire so you don’t have to run out for your monthly knowledge points

I actually agree. They’re also not the real Mechagnomes, they’re more Junker Gnomes. They have restrictions on transmogs, the hair styles aren’t as cute, I’d much rather play a normal Gnome than one of the new ones, as much as I loved the 1940s hairstyle references at first, and the retro cyberpunk idea.

As for Zandalari, another factor is that they don’t have at least one pretty face. It’s very superficial, but all the faces look like grumpy men. There is a reason why face 6 is the most popular for Trolls, it’s the only pretty one they have. And that is what people are going to play. So if you introduce a race that is the same model as the old version, but does not have a single pretty face, people are going to just go ahead and play the old version instead. There is something about being so freakishly tall that you can look a human in the eye while they’re mounted.
And yes, I forgot Goblins. Now with Vulpera Goblins seem to have fallen off a cliff. Before that you’d see more of those around, but now there are only very few left.

FWIW I see a lot more Dwarf women than Kul Tirans. Don’t think I’ve even seen a Kul Tiran woman in the last month at all. And in my opinion this is because they don’t look heroic enough. Kul Tiran men (of which you do see one every now and then) look imposing. Yes, they have a bit of belly fat, but they’re strong. They look like they do stuff. Kul Tiran women just don’t have that active look or stance. They look like middle aged mums that have let themselves go a little bit.

In the end, most people will play the race that fits their personal fantasy for the class or character the most, or that they simply like looking at the most. And I think Kul Tiran women are not top picks for either. Dwarf women are a rare choice, but they look like they will literally move the Earth around you if you won’t move. They’re so cool and have actual attitude. Kul Tirans look like they will want to speak to the manager :stuck_out_tongue:

The only one I’ll give a pass is for void elves - since it’s clear that they were just added to give alliance ‘‘High elves’’. If it werent for that - I think they would’ve or should’ve given Alliance the Void Broken instead (as they would also make more sense…)

This isn’t directed at you - but I’ve always gotten annoyed by people saying ‘‘lol Kul Tirans fat’’, cuz they really arent. They’re big, beefy muscle lads/lasses. They should go and take a look at the ‘‘Worlds Strongst Men/Women’’, and then come back to me - they’re not muscled like Arnold, they’re just massive.

They should update the female Kul Tiran, however, to have more toned muscles like some of the female Maldraxxian Gladiator NPCs have that actually share their model. That would actually make 'em look so much better, also buff their legs and arms a bit.

While I more or less agrre on the rest of the list, I disagree on this. While worgen might not be one of the most common races, they’re far from being “rare”. Whenever I queue for dungeons with my alliance chars, more often than not I have at least one worgen in the group. So I’d say that at least females are doing okay. Males seem to be neglected, tho. Pretty much due to poor pose/animations making 90% of transmog look horrible on them.

I have the opposite experience. I see quite a bit of male worgens but the female ones are unicorns.

I don’t see Worgen (male or female) too often myself.

mechagnome really is the rarest don’t help that blizz nerfed their racial which would have keeped them popular now their just uglier gnomes the fact that you can’t even transmog most gear of them makes them unpopular like the Dracthyr for those fashion motivated

I feel you need to make the distinction between male and female models for this. Because the men - while they suffered a bit of lighthearted ridicule - were mostly accepted as the “strongman” archetype. Kind of like Eddie Hall or that bloke from GoT (forgot his name, sorry :frowning: ). This is the type of man that would consume a lot of calories because his physical work at the shipyard has him burn through 10k a day easily. And because tailored diets haven’t been a thing in the past (or fantasy), some of that food will obviously remain on your body as excess fat. And when you take a look at the male Kul Tiran, it shows. The man’s got a belly, but he has clearly defined and massive muscles.

I think when people say “Kul Tirans are fat”, they predominantly mean the female model, and without fail people will defend it by saying the male one looks like a strongman.
The reasons are as you already mentioned. Little muscle definition. Narrow(ish) shoulders, very wide hips and quite a bit of sag. They’re very pear shaped.

The normal human female model has a more favourable shoulder-waist-hip ratio, which offsets the poor muscle definition. Dwarven women have stronger shoulders, less belly flab and (subjectively) better posture. Pandaren women can be a bit more rotund, because they have other qualities in that they are fluffy and adorable.

I know I am very biased, because I have wanted Vrykul women to be playable ever since I’ve first seen them in Wrath. They would really need to rework the KT model to make it more popular. Bring out and beef up shoulders, beef up arms slightly. Tuck in the belly by some 10-15%. Tuck in the hips and lift the buttocks to make them look more trained and less “couch potato”. Straighten the posture to emphasise shoulders over abdomen/hips.
But I don’t think they’ll ever revisit allied races, so Kul Tirans are going to be unpopular for quite some time

I think transmogs look worse on the female model than the male. The female model’s shoulders are so pushed outwards due to the relatively small frame of the model in combination with a very wide mane. And to make things worse, the shoulder armour itself is immensely exaggerated. To make transmogs look better on female Worgen, they would need to reduce the size of the mane by a lot to allow armour to rest on the actual model. The model itself would also need to be beefed up a bit. A naked Worgen looks like a wet poodle, they need to be brought up to “wolf” levels. Wider shoulders, waistline and hips. This would also help with correcting the weird running animation, as the feet currently are too big for the very narrow hips and it looks as if the poor girl is tripping over her own feet. Wider hips would help giving her a bit of a more confident stance.
The shoulder armour would need to be brought in slightly and then have their size reduced by roughly 25-30%. Then Worgen would be perfect for me

In my experience, the problem is common to both genders when comes to worgen. Shoulders look too big on them. And helmets look horrible due to the manes. But there are very few helmets and shoulders I like to start with, so I don’t consider that a real problem ^^U

I think it does take effect from Retribution Mastery on Paladin. Also, the 2,5 mins CD we have now is better than the 3 mins CD we had back in BfA.

Outside of Mechagnomes Female Kul Tiran feels very rare.

I doesn’t, I just logged in to check
As a healer I don’t have a lot of Mastery, but I found a ring and a necklace, which in total gave me 5% Mastery. I’ve hit a target dummy in Valdrakken once as reference, and then twice with the Mastery pieces to compare. Both times the LJ with added Mastery did 1K less damage than the one without additional Mastery. The ring/necklace with Mastery were both lower ilvl than my non-Mastery items, but as rings and necklaces do not have any main stat on them, maybe item level does play into Light’s Judgment damage?

In any case, both Dwarf races, humans and even normal Draenei still sim higher for single and multi-target. That 113 main stat boost doesn’t sound like much, but the small bonuses to damage and healing will rack up over time. Also, I am still a massive fan of Gift of the Naaru, I think it’s an enormously underrated ability. As a healer you can add a bit of HPS to priority targets and for everyone else you have an additional self heal for tight situations.
It’s only minute differences though, so unless you are optimising for top 5% content, LFD will do just fine. I know I won’t race change back. But just saying, there is no reason other than “I like how they glow” to play one.

That is true, but male Worgen come with naturally wider shoulders. They have quite broad shoulders, so bigger shoulder armour fits them better. Female Worgen have very narrow shoulders, they’re quite scrawny compared to the buff male model. Female Worgen only look massive with the oversized shoulder plates, but as soon as you remove those, they’re the proverbial wet poodle, whereas the male model will still appear muscular and feral. I’d really like Blizzard to beef up the female Worgen, so they don’t have to rely on massive armour pieces to appear bigger than they are. Just give them a more muscular, “dangerous” stature and reduce shoulder plates accordingly. Pleeeeaaaaaase? :innocent:

Did your Versatility go down?

According to WoWhead it uses now Versatility as scalar (I could have sworn it was Mastery at some point).
