For awile now I have been playing a warlock and I have been enjoying it, but I really have had a expectations vs reality moment.
Expectations: Dark, Demonic spellcaster stealing souls to empower yourself. Going to any length to gain more power to further my own ambitions. Hated and feard by all, only other warlocks respect my deeds.
Reality: Noble hero who fights to the bitter end to win for there faction, who uses spells and dominates demons (sometimes) to make there faction the bestest ever!
I guess what am getting at is I donāt FEEL like a warlock, a mage sure, but not a warlock? I mean what are my motivations? where is the fear and lothing from the Alliance? Where are the dark rituals?
Warlocks are the most volatile and insatiable of spellcasters. Though they often pledge themselves to the service of noble causes and are not innately evil, their desire to understand darker magics and exercise unwavering command over demonic forces breeds mistrust among even their closest allies. Warlocks peer into the Void without hesitation, leveraging the chaos they glimpse within to devastating ends in battleātheir greatest abilities are fueled by the souls theyāve harvested from their victims. They exploit powerful Shadow magic to manipulate and degrade the minds and bodies of their enemies. They employ Fire magic, dropping hellish rain from the sky, to immolate the opposition. They summon and command indomitable demons from the Twisting Nether to do their bidding, or even to be sacrificed as the Warlock sees fit, empowering and protecting the dark caster from harm
In Legion I kinda felt like a warlock, I had warlock goals and ambitions. But now am back to being a generic spellcaster. Where is the class fantasy? Why have classes if your not going to use them to there full potential? you might as well have Fighter, Mage and Healer at this point.
I like being able to be an āanti-heroā in games. In Fallout 2 you could beat the game even if you were super evil in the game.
It is a pity the game only gives some classes the opportunity to be ādarkā, for example DKs in their starter questline. Otherwise there are very few dark things you can doā¦like kill stuff in Booty Bay.
I loved how it was in legion. We need more summoning rituals !
Tbh i donāt think thereās a stereotype for a warlock, theyāre not necessarily need to be evil edgy guys with dark intent, but for sure itās stupid how warlocks become āsaviour of worlds, fighting for the goodā. A warlock may help āsavingā the world if he gets paid enough, maybe a good deal, chunk of fel magic or just he/she just feels like it. But how the story was developed just doesnāt fit
