So, eredar are not the ones who corrupted Sargeras anymore - he corrupted them. Nathrezim are also originally entirely other deal, and some of them became demons. Succubi were not originally demons. Voidwalkers are probably not demons at all, or maybe they are, who knows at this point. Mo’arg were not demons, before they became demons.
All of this leaves me with a question - who are the OGs? Who are the demons that were with Sargeras when he just started conquering worlds? Did we see any of them in the game? Are there any left?
No, I don’t think as of yet we know who the original demons are supposed to be. The Burning Legion seems to consist mainly, if not exclusively, of fel-infused other races.
But looking at the way Blizzard is going, that’s probably expansion content in a few addon, where we get to meet the “Pantheon of Chaos”, or something like that, and hear all about Sargeras with his legion just being a pawn. I mean, we know about the Void Lords, the Pantheon of Order and the Pantheon of Death, and we have been teased about the Pantheon of Life. Having one for each of the 6 powers seems like the obvious way to go. And that would make Sargeras mostly a pretender.
Honestly the idea of each force having a pantheon sounds pretty cheap to me, at least at this point. It’s just… kinda lazy? Suddenly Sargeras will turn out to be just a mERe PAwN, and the real “big bad guys” have been hidden all this time. Imo it kind of takes away the meaning of the Burning Legion and their goals.
Annihilan (or pit lords) - Demons, they are Demons
Antaen - Giant Demons we saw on Argus, Fel-beaming down the Xenedar… Demons. Maybe constructs, but they seemed… fleshy?
Bilescourge - These… flying things comes in two form, larva and flying menace. Demons, not corrupted fauna of Argus tho"
Aranasi - Arachnid Demons. Tho’ scholars who have studied the Burning Legion speculate that they are the remnants of a forgotten race on a world long ago conquered by the armies of Sargeras
Darkhound - doggies twisted in to Demons
Ered’ruin - Now we are talking, their two variant , Doomguard and Doomlords are tho OG Demons of WC1 I think. The Terrorguard are from their breed too.
Fel hound,-beast, -stalker - They are red, spined creatures from the depths of the Twisting Nether, so true Demons
Imps, Imp Mothers - Imps are small, cackling, mischievous demons. Creatures of felfire and trickery considered lowly among demons. Demons.
Inquisitors - are a race of demons in service of the Burning Legion.
Jailers - are a race of demons in service of the Burning Legion that carry fel cages on their backs. Demons.
The mo’arg- They are powerful and highly intelligent demon members of the Burning Legion. They are extremely diverse, with subspecies ranging from stunted gan’arg and imposing felguard to colossal brutes and fel lords. A demonic species hailing from the Twisting Nether, the mo’arg were some of Sargeras’ opponents when he was still the defender of the Pantheon. After Sargeras betrayed the Pantheon, the highly resourceful and industrious mo’arg were recruited into the Legion to serve as armorers, forging fel-infused weaponry and constructs to besiege the worlds of the cosmos
Observers (or floating eyes) - are an intelligent race of demons resembling floating eyeball squids. They are originally native to the Great Dark Beyond. A darkglare is a floating, horned, one-eyed or five-eyed octopus-like demon similar to an observer. Little is currently known about them
The sayaad - (adjective form sayaadi) are a species of demons, who look similar to the nathrezim. Only female sayaad are commonly seen, and are known as succubi (singular succubus). The males are named incubi (singular incubus).
Shivarra - , or shivan, are a tall 6-armed female demonic species; Demons
Vilefiends (or simply fiends) are a type of demon found on Argus. They are infused with acidic blood through a terrifying ritual. Probably not true Demons, but who knows?
Void hounds, also known as void terrors, are huge and extremely powerful two-headed demons that roam the trackless wastes of the Twisting Nether like ravenous beasts. They are… probably not from the Void, just named after it (unlike the Void Walkers)… tho’ they could be Voidy in origin.
Wyrmtongues are a race of diminutive demons in service to the Burning Legion, mostly used for manual labor.
Rancora, presumably.
In the green fire questline, they are revealed to once have been “the Titans’ hounds” policing the use of Sacrificial Magic (Fel) throughout the cosmos before being freed from their duty by Sargeras.
We see partially felhound mutated wolves on draenor, having grown the felhound’s signature mana draining tendrils on their backs.
Given their presence in ny’alotha as aberrations, their demonic counterpart might be an invasive species in the nether.
Similarly classified as demonic but are most certainly not, being explicitly of the Void and bound as a product of its power struggles.
I mean we gave them name Demons, they could have been race of beings bent on conquering and destruction. Like Burning legion has very advanced technology assimilated from theese races so it makes sense. Mo’arg race for example are very potent in engineering super advanced tech, we call them demons but they were probabbly just extremely advanced race conquering worlds untill sargeras found them and imprisoned them as during that time he saw them as threat to Order. But later when he freed all “demons” he used their expertise to create war machines for his legions.Space ships, portals, etc. Same with many other races like succubus, fel guards etc they could have been just race of beings on some kind of planet and sargeras did not like the havoc and chaos they unleashed on that planet so he imprisoned them before he became what he is now. So TlDR they are not “demons” we gave them that name, they are just buch of different hostile alien races of various technological progress.
