No offence… I do enjoy playing mage and whilst I love the game to death do struggle with questing now after eleven years. Anyway that is another issue. I have been steadily building my team on another realm and when I hit the road block of dungeon times at 80 ish I start another and then level to 80 and over. Done that six times this year and now at 55 on another char.
To the point of the thread. I run dungeons and get drops obviously from killing mobs. But I just cannot get over how every drop I get wants to reduce crit and versatility… without fail. It gets so common place to the point of being an obvious game mechanic. Why? All I get is 1 on int, 1 on stamina and say armor… maybe a 2 on haste and then -6 crit and -7 vers. Its always the same.
I can go a dozen levels before I see any item dropping that actually improves the speed at which I could undertake my duties. Its an obvious ploy to slow me down. Come on… sometimes I am getting like -17 crit and same with vers. Never a +17 . The other stats just lift by the absolute minimum.
I just did Zul’Farrak and the combined total loss on crit was -24 and vers was -11 and -7 haste … I would be bonkers using it. I know I have mentioned this before but I either assume that the designers are doing this intentionally or they don’t know what they are doing. I get no uplift from anything… or very rarely. It has become so frustrating. What is the point of consistently dropping items that do nothing to help me.
If it were different wouldn’t you think that would help the game by allowing players to feel they are actually getting better as they progress. I mean I level so fast it hardly makes a difference. I’m not having any issue with clearing mobs and finishing dungeons and levelling. Its never been hard in this game. But if the levelling experience actually felt like it rewarded effort properly and made you feel it was worth while wouldn’t that really help gamers and enjoy this game.
This design phylosophy is embedded in this game from level 1 up. It is everywhere. The designers have always had a fear of giving players time. Not rewards… ‘time’. Crit means time to me. The quicker I can get the hots up I can punch those pyro and clear the mobs. Delay that process and I slow right down. So by rewarding very modest int and health and then slamming you with a time penalty does not help me. Rinsing and repeating dungeons may be what you want me to do all day long, don’t have an issue, BUT couldn’t it seriously be a little bit more rewarding.
I do think that if the designers would lift the rewards from levelling it might just make the experience more fun and keep players coming back. Otherwise its just dull as soup. Not hard, never hard… my goodness that would be enriching also… but the tedious nature of drops just eats you away… each and every day. CHANGE the stats to better balance the actual NEED of the player and it gets more rewarding. Happy player… happy gaming… more subs. In the great scheme of things it aint gonna matter one way or another.
I think it’s because when they introduced scaling, all they did with pre-existing items was up the stats that were already on it to the appropriate level.
I’ve had quest rewards that had the exact same stats as an old item, with the same ilevel, but the “new” item had secondaries on it, too.
It would usually be the case if I was doing, say, Redridge at level 50.
If you get less of the stats you want because you already had pieces with the stats you wanted… that means…
You already got pieces with good stats for you, getting worst stats is not a mechanic to pushback you, it is just loot that isn’t useful to you, this is completely normal.
Just think about this: If you got an item with worst stats, that means you already had an item with better stats, so you already got something useful to you and you will get it in the future again, and probably get more items with worst stats for you, it’s normal random drop mechanic.
So you have to pay to win. In truth the gear is not that important as I don’t have any issue killing stuff. I just feel sorry for the tank who gets frustrated with the time it takes to kill things. I had a guy yesterday openly comment at the end of the dungeon that the run was dreadful and he used an expletive saying the DPS was poor. He was talking to me.
I play what I am given. If the game doesn’t want to reward me then what can I do. I try. I just get reduced stats on gear drops for all the important elements. Its gotten to the point where I expect it.
Enchanting would work if I had a character that could enchant. I tried enchanting again with one of my mages but I outlevelled dungeons quicker than I could get any training. Became pointless. Same with all the professions.
So its a hard slog in terms of time killing stuff. I have never used a heirloom and have no intention of doing so. I kinda see the thing as a failure of the game and actually would be very very happy if they removed them. I would seriously love the motorobikes removed from the game.
The game is now an end gamers product and has turned its back on conventional game play involving the old mechanisms. It is not hard, it is just boring and tedious cus they simply scaled the health pools of mobs.
Scaling is not the same when you play. You can feel overpowered sometimes and cut thro stuff no problem. But then level a couple of times and upgrade your gear and you again hit the brick wall. There is no consistency what so ever. It often pays not to upgrade the gear until you feel the armor is a problem, cus the lower the stats can actually help killing stuff.
The worst is doing very well in a difficult dungeon and then returning to the game world and being back to punching low and tedious endless boring moronic quest kills on trash mobs.
Like I say its not fun and the rewards are poor in this game for a traditional gamer. Its like the game has no real purpose of progression. There is no actual way for a player to work a better path through the game in terms of becoming more powerful cus the game just copies you all the time. It really is a drag.
And by the way if you can get to 71 using dungeons you can then one shot everything in Eastern and Kalimdor, with no gear or weapon and simply fly to digs and do tamers and never have to do a quest again. Thats the only route I can find that doesn’t involve endless tedious boring mob killing with no reward. Arch actually pays well and do Crystal during pet battle week with two baby apes and a spare and you can level as fast as dungeons. Sad that. Real sad.
you talk durin low level dungeon? Im levelling a shammy (now at 86) and i maybe had a discussion of 3 words with a pally 2 weeks ago. in total.
Levelling exp is dead now. Is just a rush to 120. nothin else.
Well, Versatility was introduced in WoD. So on any item before WoD, if it’s even on there, it has been forcefully put on and scaled. Doesn’t surprise me that something like that is not around often on low items and/or weirdly scaled.
I agree that it’s a bit weird now, but I don’t think it really has been designed this way. It’s a result of remodelling the world to suit the new expansions. The old gear (all modified by now …), how sad it is, has barely any value anymore. Nobody cares, until they reach max-level. And well, heirlooms didn’t really help in that matter either. Firstly; the old content quickly became too easy for groups with heirlooms equipped. Secondly people cared even less for the random drops.
But well, can we blame them for focusing mainly on the current expansion? I don’t, enough to improve still :P.
If you want the old feeling back, check out the Classic project.
I won’t be playing Classic as I can’t play Blood Elf sadly.
As of today I’ve actually stopped picking stuff up from boss kils. It makes no difference to my abilities as everything is scaled. Just annoying as I say to other players as it takes me forever to kill anything. I just can’t be bothered with carrying the junk around with me anymore. I get bags of items but nothing wants to improve my stats. The last two items I got for a ‘mage’ was a sword and a dagger. That was the final straw. Each and every item has really really modest uplifts on Int but massive negative values on Crit, Vers and also Haste. I mean if they would give me an item with say +1 on Int but please don’t take anything off Crit say… I would be OK. But I can’t use this junk. And seriously it is junk. Just deflating especially after a 30 minute queue just to get nothing… again.
So to avoid the disppointment I’ve stopped picking it up and it made me feel better… well after the hours of waiting that is. Been sitting in queues all
morning. Just managed to do some Cata dungeon and when I left there was two items in the mail …
Boots -13 Vers and Cape -7 Crit. Just vendor trash and sold it straight away. I also keep getting bunches of flowers for some reason. Just throw them away as they are off hand… Pointless.
Sorry to be negative but with the waiting and the dreadful drops its starting to all feel a miserable time. I also hate Pandaria with the voice overs that drive me mad. And Cata… well , I better leave it there.
My problem is the feeling of lack of reward. When you wait for ages and then do some quite long dungeons it would be nice to get the feeling it was worthwhile. My heart sinks when I get another pair of useless boots with -17 crit. The game has to feel like its rewarding or what is the point.
you’re quitting when you reach lvl 80 and you’re complaining about no rewards? You’re basically stuck in a loop of content that only provides 10% of the overal experience. All you’re doing is old dungeons and old quests and nothing remotely challenging or rewarding.
Lvling up is the grinding part of wow. Not the rewarding one. Your reward is finally reaching 120 and starting with the ACTUAL stuff.
I’m not quitting at 80 I am sitting here at 83 stuck in yet another endless queue at 34 minutes. Just lost the tank so back down to just 3 dmg in the queue. And I’ve done so much questing in my eleven years I couldn’t stomach another. And I have chars at 120. My challenge was to see if I could start on a new realm and level using dungeons. BUT… I get to around 80 and I just get sick to death with the waiting. I was waiting on my 77 character earlier for half an hour and couldn’t get in so I came back here on this char. Its like dead… totally dead. Fast and furious to around 65 and then it just falls off.
I am the last to give up. I want to play the game. I couldn’t care less what level it is as long as its rewarding and fun. And sorry… end game isn’t at all interesting to me. Never has been and never will.
I am going to give the dungeon challenge up anyway and go back to 30 minutes a day WoW doing the tamers and some arch and play LoL where I get a pop on Lux in under two minutes.
The clock is standing at 43 minutes. This aint a group finder… its sucking the life out of me and its really not worth it.
So funny… cus I was sitting this morning for twenty minutes with a tank a healer and two damage and it couldn’t even find a damage player to make the five.
Its 48 minutes now and I just got hearted again as I sit here in Undercity. Average wait times is eight minutes didn’t you know … back down to 3 dmg. I gotta go play LoL. I need a break from sitting on the cold Undercity floor.
I’ll let you into a little secret. Up until the beginning of this year I played totally solo. I even played with no gear at all. I can easily get to 120 by other means. I thought though I would celebrate this year by giving dungeons a go… Hasn’t worked at all. I have never known a process become so demoralising as this. I just don’t get it…
I’m going to leave this open now until I get to the hour mark and then say bye bye to dungeon finder. It really is the biggest drag I have ever experienced playing this game. I’ve had nights of endless waiting. I must be doing something very wrong.
