I’ll be really honest, as much as I know it’s subjective, but I’m not feeling it, they’re neither impressive or beautiful - as I would expect and as they were before. - their faces seem uglier than before.
It’s a bit disappointing, night elves and things related to them, why do the character models get uglier with updates/
Legion model:
DF model:
The pixel fidelity and detail is better, but the look the appearance, the faces and chests urrrgh - I just feel that sometimes they take great leaps forward with night elf assets, then take steps backwards too.
I was not happy with the 6.0 revamp of the night elves, to be fair, issues with model fidelity, night elf male necks, night elf male faces with all looking old and snarly but one… the males are druids and mages - full of nature and arcane energies which are life affirming, not to mention all that organic food, and lots of resting… it just doesn’t correlate with the lore on this one I’m afraid.
And the Keepers, they looked amazing.
it’s the same with the dryads, they just don’t look as nice as they did before.
meanwhile, the more horde related centaur, got a marked improvement than before… so the alliance leaning Keeper dryads get uglified and the horde centaur get beautified… this is what it feels like.
Personally I dislike them, and for similar reasons as the new Keeper model. Faces look flat and bland and the models appear quite rigid. Older design styles seem more organic and natural, even if the actual model betrays its age.
They do indeed look older now… But it might just be the fact that they’re an older generation within the dream. That special part we’re playing in is the heart of the dream, so probably very old. Including the creatures living there. Did you check if the legion models and those in other parts if Azeroth are still the same?
I particularly always loved the animation where they checked on their sharp wooden fingers pricking themselves. Not checked if they still do that.
And it defenitly wasnt made to fit the keepers, and not sure why where even updatted when they held up well still the legion ones, couldve just done bit of a polish with bit more pixels to them , but even without theyd hold up well enough,
unlike actual old centaur models who be horribly out of place
I file it in the same complaint as the new dragon and gnoll models and such. They don’t look right either.
I feel like Blizzard had an established art style for Warcraft that transitioned seamlessly from Warcraft: Orcs & Humans to Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness to Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and into World of Warcraft. And every time Blizzard have improved existing models for World of Warcraft over the years, be it elementals or character races, they’ve generally been true to the established art style.
But in Dragonflight it’s all wrong. I think Bellular summarized it nicely when he commented on Nozdormu having smooth skin.
It looks wrong. It doesn’t look like Warcraft. It’s not Warcraft III: Reforged levels of catastrophe, but it’s not an improvement over the old models.
It does make them look ugly. The wrath of the Lich King dryads are far better than the DF ones. It’s unfortunate that they made them ugly and does the setting a disservice.
Legion ones hands down. The Dragonfilight ones look ugly and I don’t mean the details, those are excellent, the models have been specifically, uh, ugly-field.
