All of the dps classes right now are pretty much builder spenders, apart from enh shaman. I’m just wonder why it is so ? In WOTLK and previous expansions classes were differently designed ? Do people just prefer the builder/spender gameplay ?

Frost mage has no builder spender, neither does fire mage I believe? Arcane mage has a builder in the sense that their legendary forces you to use arcane missiles to stack up to 18 for increased damage but that’s due to their legendary.

Nearly every spec being some variation of builder/spender is my #1 complaint about modern class design.
Glacial Spike kinda makes Frost into a builder/spender. Although i will admit it doesn’t feel like it.

Glacial Spike hasn’t been used since Shadowlands started though, the talent is so bad that having no talents is a dps increase rather than picking Glacial Spike as a talent lol.
So it’s not really fair to say Frost mage is a builder spender because of a talent, if it’s not in your baseline kit I wouldn’t consider it ^^

They were different in not having a proper gameplay whatsoever, yes. Don’t think that was necessarily more engaging
You build the frost shards with frost bolt and use them with ice lance ? Isn’t it kind of builder spender ? Same goes if you go with Glacial Spike, no ?
Not all classes though, Frost and fire mages are not… and it’s pretty annoying imo.
I tihnk making the filler spells hit harder and adding skills/spells on a small cd 5-10 seconds might be better ?
Depends on what you mean by builder spender. Because by the loosest of definitions, then thats how all classes play.

No? Theres no such thing as frost shards. We cast frostbolt to get a proc which can happen after 1 frostbolt or 7 frostbolts, theres no building, just rng ^^
Icicles, every time you cast frost bolt you gain icicle and you unleash them at 5 unless you get a proc, no ? How is that different from rogue combo points ?

Voidform was a great alternative that was shunned by a lot of the community.
I loved legion spriest gameplay and am sad to see it’s been removed rather than turned into a fourth spec for the class.
I don’t mind having resource on every class, but I would like to see it reworked. I want more pooling for specific moment, like - imagine having 15 Holy Power max and using it when it’s needed for given situation. You need burst in 20 sec? Don’t spend your resource, pool it and then spend all of it. You need constant damage? Spend it asap. You need to survive specific phase? Spend resource on defensives/offhealing.

The original b/s classes where the rogue and the druid. Rage users too in a sense. Everything else was CDs.
icicles don’t factor into a single one of your decisions: they are entirely passive and should be functionally ignored. any attempt to treat them like a builder-spender will most likely result in a massive dps loss.
