we were promised the return of the original versions of these dungeons and yet I queue up and find that the Scarlet Crusade in Stratholme are all undead? that is NOT the original
Because reasons
That is not timewalking.
Because you arent queing for the Classic timewalking.
You are queing for normal dungeons of the Cata Chromie-Time.
because the Classic timewalking dungeon layouts are linked to their Cata layouts.
However… Play deadmines.
No he’s right they are if you are using the timewalking in Dungeon Finder.
Yeah, I was a little disappointed to discover that this was the case yesterday.
Which is a shame as it didn’t have to be like that. Original Scholopants is back in the game along with it’s revamped version. It would have been nice to get the proper original versions back (and make those CSI teleporters in the Deadmines disappear).
it’s not JUST that it’s a wasted opportunity, it’s also contrary to what we were promised in this event
lol… Six times so far Ive been asked “wtf? Why are you getting Scourgestones from bosses!!” in various ways from the Stratholme wings. And it takes so long to explain I just tell them to look up crafting t2 sets in Google.
Also have a like for “Scholopants” which I will now forever use.
No it isn’t and you weren’t promised anything. This is what they said.
Here’s what you can look forward to during the 20th Anniversary Celebration:
- Earn and spend a new currency— Bronze Celebration Tokens— to spend on new items for your collection
- Engage in the Blackrock Depths raid
- Collect Iconic Tier 2 transmog appearance sets
- Go Timewalking through Classic World of Warcraft dungeons
Every single player in retail since cataclysm was launched has been playing the cataclysm versions of the Classic dungeons.
If you go into Chromie Time right now and select a timeframe you won’t see Azeroth but you will see Cataclysm where your first dungeons in dungeon finder are the cata versions. Even if you walk into them you are still walking into the cata versions.
Those are the dungeons you will be finding in the Timewalking. if you want your old school Classic dungeons you’ll need to play Classic but they’re probably converted to the Cata versions as well.
What they DID say was you would be able to play Timewalking versions of those dungeons, which is the first time since Timewalking became a feature. Nowhere did they say that you would be playing the pre Cata versions of the Classic dungeons.
What Blizzard SHOULD have done however, is have a Bronze Dragon NPC with the ability to convert the timeframe back to pre cata, if that’s even an option for retail anymore.
What makes it all the more confusing is that Deadmines DOES in fact use the Classic enemies and bosses, not the Cata ones. As if they had an idea and gave up halfway through.
Probably because unlike the Deadmines where you have different enemies and bosses, Stratholme just changed the scarlet crusaders into undead and replaced Rivendare senior with junior. It was probably deemed not worth the time and effort required to change it.
Just like when Warcraft 3 Reforged was released without updated cut scenes.
Deadmines and ZF are 2005 versions as for strat no its not the proper classic version buts its niether the cata version something ia not right.
There is no newer version of Zul’Farrak. Even on normal it is the same.
Probably developers are young and didn’t even know those nuances? They thought it’s already classic.
No, ZF isnt the 2005 version. The stairs event was a lot different at that time. Other mobs work different too, or their summoning.

actually…
Timewalking Through the Classics
Take part in a new Timewalking event that will take you through the original version of Deadmines, Zul’Farrak, Dire Maul (east and west wings), and Stratholme’s living and undead dungeons for epic new rewards. Queue up via the Adventure Journal or the Group Finder with players level 10 and above.
on a re-read I can recognise that it could be read as “the original Deadmines and the remakes of…” but it is very obvious that it WILL be read as “the original versions of all of the following:” it’s either deliberate deception or extremely bad writing and proofreading. call me cynical but deception seems to be more likely than incompetence in this case
