Trust me, the Felhunter and DK ghoul are just as bad at pathing.
Thankfully the ghoul has a jump, so it normally doesn’t glitch itself when you engage in combat, but if you take a short cut, it’ll just watch you and not move.
Pet AI feels like the only thing which gets worse with each expact.
Agreed… nothing worse than a pet suddenly randomly deciding that it’s not going to attack your target, generally when it’s behind you and just finished killing something else… Where are you kitteh?! I iz getting kerb stomped over here!
Thok also seems particularly bad on this…quite common to have to dismiss and call another pet, due to excessive slacking/sniffing the scenery.
Even better if god forbid, you have to call your pet back to you during a fight, and its get caught in stupid, pathetic, endless cycle of running back and forth to the boss/target and me.
Or when it all has to do is simply drop over a ledge with you, and it decides to go the whole way around 50 mobs and pull everyone.
Pet AI altogether in this game is so embarassing it’s not even funny anymore.
This is why I almost exclusively use flying pets now. They get stuck on terrain less often.
Another strange thing that I’ve noticed is that pets don’t seem to want to attack a target that is not in their line of sight. I’ve had some annoying times in caves when my pets won’t attack a mob just around a corner.
it’s not a hunter exclusive problem. for most of BFA my felguard was not able to hit the tentacles on the 3rd platform on the last boss in siege of boralus. they hotfixed that “recently”.
My least favourite part of the pet AI is that the rules aren’t even consistent. So many times I try to say “Please dismiss all pets, they’ll take the long way around and pull everything”, but the pet’s owner says “Nuh-uh! Last time I jumped the pet teleported to me”. They’re not wrong, but it’s a random edge case that only happens rarely. So then I watch the pet run and pull everything… and the owner is adamant it must’ve been me, I must be trying to give them a bad name.
It should at least be clear when the pet will path around and when not.
in some dungons when pet attacks boss the pet even stands in mid air swinging it pawn hitting boss telepaticly from a long range but still do damage but it looks so silly …
I just did an invasion quest in Azsuna, I went to the edge of the platform to aggro the mob and my pets for some strange reason decided to do a full circle path and aggro like 5-6 mobs while I was killing the miniboss alone (thankfully I dinged after I killed the miniboss so I was again at full health)…I mean, really??
