Ive always found it so weird that World of Warcraft is the one MMO that doesnt have synced ilvl and level in pvp.
I know they attempted something in Leigon but it was universally hated.
Im just curious to know the opinions of players. Personally I believe everyone should be on an equal playing field and encounters should be based on skill rather than a numbers game.
Because it removes a core part of the game. Gearing your character, choosing your stats, getting a socket, putting on enchants and opening vault feels good. Atm we have the best of both worlds we got easily accesible bis gear from doing pvp and there are no rating requirments or insane grinds to reach that gear. If you want to absolute minmax you can do some pve +16 or a ton of wins on 2400 to get titanic ring but it isnt necessary. I loved getting a character to max in legion and just queing but it was also kind of boring that you couldnt progress your character at all, much prefer this system we have now.
It does however make a massive barrier for entry for PvP though, Say you just recently hit lvl 70 and want to enter a battleground. You get absolutely destroyed by somebody who has 100 ilvl gear than you.
I just dont understand how people find that fun or engaging.
I wish low level battlegrounds just gave everyone a levelling pvp set or at least squish stats where everyone is on an even playing field no matter the gear. The gap at lower levels is not fun, and I’d kind of like to get a feel for my class before I get to max level.
I don’t feel the same way about max level PvP, as its quite easy to gear this expansion.
I want to be able to carry without queueing as a 3-5 man premade. I have 60-80% winrate in most bgs, on most characters, in every expansion. Normalising ilvls among all characters would reduce my winrates, because it’ll stop me from doing everything in the BG at once.
Probably around 65-85% of all people that join BGs either do not know the mechanics of the BG, or do not care about winning (which i am not saying they should, if you wanna grind mid and GY farm, go crazy), but I DO know the mechanics and I DO care about winning, so my options are:
A) 3-5 man stack every BG
B) Clasp hands and pray that people want to win and know mechanics
C) Pray the opposite for the enemy team
or…
D) Gear my character, grab some versatility flasks and healing potions and hard carry
This problem gets even worse when it comes to healers. Often times you will be solo healing a 10 man BG against a 3-5 man premade of German DPS and you need all the help you can get, so when you click the enemy team and see that some of their DPS have sub 400k hp, there’s a faint hope you can win.
Ultimately gearing to 421 or so ilvl does not take long. If you have any characters above 1400 rating in arena, you can get a half dozen conquest items the second you hit 70, trophies of strife can be earned while leveling and give you another 3-4 items relatively quickly and the rest of your gear can be supplemented by the 2 crafted items and some blue honour gear. It shouldn’t take you more than 3-5 days to gear a character to 421 ilvl, 4 set and both crafted items unless you are brand new to the expansion.
“Im against how it should be cause it would make it harder for me.” Kinda sad you think that way after all the rather smart and decent stuff you said earlier.
This has quite a few ifs and the biggest is the rating that shows entirely what is wrong with this games Pvp. Overall its a casual game yet if you want to have fair chances it forces you to play that utter garbage 3v3 tdm as this for some unknown to me reason is the main focus. Arena sucks and Im sure its the reason many of those that liked bgs turned to other games. Imagine LoL but to use Rabadons/IE in ARAM you need to be Dia3+ in SoloQ. ARAM queue would be dead… but instead it seems to have more players on EUW alone than WoW worldwide.
Crafted gear also means you need another char otherwise it feels like it takes ages to get those 90 orbs.
Honor gear would be fine if it werent so much weaker. 13 ilvls sound like nothing but it beeing more than 80k life is a huge difference. Not to mention that you miss out on the tier set advantages which take 4 weeks to grind when unlucky.
My qt shaman is at 415 after a week and wont reach 421 next week either.
Another problem is money. PvP is such a money drain in this game. Repairing gear, buying gear, enchants and so on while you get basicly no gold in return.
This game needed soloq bgs a decade ago and without all those bs flasks that you can buy nowadys.
The main part of the game with gearing is not a problem. The problem people have with gear are these things;
Solo queueing into a fully geared premades.
Twinks gatekeeping lvling brackets by one shotting anyone who is not a twink.
No “low gear” bracket for new people. I would separate max level pvp brackets into 2 groups; those that are gearing up, and then those that have tier 1 blue full honor gear and up. Then new people can get to learn the game without fully epic geared veterans flaming them for not having gear.
Lvl 70s fully 4-set geared players being able to join the 61-69 bracket as twinks.
I am 100% certain that if these things were fixed, gearing would instantly be much more enjoyable in pvp.
I miss the days when weapons had fun special effects. I have a pair of Silent Fangs on my low level rogue, and it is glorious to watch casters quake with fear at the sight of me. When I attack them, they are perpetually silenced.
I would actually be perfectly fine with normalizing gear n scale everyone to the same item level, however in DF gearing is so easy that there really isnt a need for it at all. Gearing has never been better than it currently is.
While i said i would be fine with this addition, i prefer to not have it because i want to be able to pick my own stat priority. I would be fine with a middle ground, item level scales to the same amont but stats dont. This would still allow people to customize their stats n remove the stage of the game where you´re roleplaying a trashmob on an alt in a BG.
Then again, i actually dont think anything truly needs to be done with gearing. Just keep it as is but increase conquest gains substantially from BG´s n make it a viable source of farming it for those who dont want to do arena.
I feel that pvp should not be about gear ilvl but mogs and rewards instead.
The reason I dont even pvp in random bgs is because of the gear difference. I dont like seeing MM hunter/ret twinks (bully victims propably) oneshoting people and I dont like seeing low geared people in my team with 1/10 a pvp geared persons total health.
Start with minimum ilvl requirement for bgs, just give out pvp sets free for everyone or set it to a certain ilvl, and make elite pvp gear just a mog or give some extra 5% stat, not 500% stat…
It literally takes like 1 afternoon of bg-s to get full honor gear which is 411 vs 424 is conquest, thats a really narrow gap… You’ll passively have 424 gear anyways as rated pvp gives a ton of conquest (espec now that is uncapped). with capped conquest you hit weekly cap by doing daily wins so you can catch up by playing 4 bgs a week. Idk how easy some of you want it to be…
