Why are the latest WoW expansions are so easy by default?

What do you think about the difficulty of the current default gameplay experience of the latest expansions?

I believe the current state of gameplay is too easy for a casual player to be involved in the story and the gameplay. It’s too boring, an avarege player can go through everything without paying attention to any gameplay mechanic. Quests, elite quests and normal dungeons can be easily done while watching a movie or a series… You are the greatest hero by default without doing anything, getting green and blue items in your first hour of gameplay without effort. There are many more games on PC and console that can grab the attention of players by challenging encounters and more engaging gameplay experience. (Yes there are mythic+ dungeons and raids in endgame as well, but they are too repetitive after 10-20 runs)

Talking about PVE, in Vanilla and TBC, by statistics only a very few percentage of players could see the endgame bosses, but I believe this was the motivating force which pulled thousands or millions of players into the game who wanted to see at least once the latest raid or kill the “big final boss”. When every story content is available for everybody without much effort, nobody would care that much. Once they have seen the last boss of the expansion they are losing motivation to continue. (also the number of active players statistics are showing this with every new expansion with a high spike and a large drop after that). Of course there could be the other way, when everything is too hard, but I think WoW strayed too much from the “golden path” in the direction of making the gameplay too easy for really new players.

I love WoW as a causal player and only classic can give me the feeling that you are actually progressing, and starting from 0 and work your way up. I miss the danger and exploration of the unknown world from the latest expansions. I would really love to see new expansions with this kind of mindset in design and difficulty.

Now endgame bosses in classic are cleared within the first few hours.

Well, feel free to think wrong.

WoW is just more casual focused nowadays I think

it´s not easy by default, it´s just the characters are overpowered when it comes to quests and leveling.

it´s super casual for people that have no time for classic WoW gameplay.

For some of them they weren’t even max level!

it’s kinda obviuos that previous expansions aren’t accounted for current options that our characters have, dragonflight mobs have different design, force you to move from abiltites and interrupt spells

It’s fine, that’s what I think.

Oh it’s one of THESE threads.

Moving on. Nothing to see here.

classic andies came out of hibernation with new content scratches and started to do what they do best: being annoying.
When they go on the date i bet they buzz the heck out ears of their partner on everything concerned about classic, “this pie is so layered and satisfying to chew, reminds me of classic leveling, oh did you know that retail leveling is far worse, he he, classic wow, so great”

Because the average wow player is about as smart s a PB&J-sandwich … and since they are also addicted in throwing money away by trading it for garbage, they ofc go where the money is.

average classic andy will have a heart attack when he’ll see heroic fyrakk

I think it’s fine as it is. The stuff that requires more players should be instanced or world bosses and events which is the case. I’d rather not have to rely on groups to complete open world quests and level my character. Levelling is me time.

Havin vanilla gameplay waste your time with unnecesarily long leveling times that consist of 70% white numbers as you watch yoru character autoattack and involves no player skill or imput does not equal “hard”.

TLDR tedious is not hard.

Classic andies man…

Bruh people who seriously play classic wow DO NOT get dates. What were you thinking?

 I would argue that this is only because back in the day people didn’t have game figure out in and out
I would say the game started to be figure out around MoP era when there were all of sudden streamers and GUIDE makers
even on youtube when you go to Older content creators from wow there is nothing for vanilla or TBC or WOTLK even cata
but MoP had many many class guides raids guides all that
You can correct me if i’m wrong

I thought we were talking about how much it takes to get into PvP or heroic/Mythic raiding tho

Of course if you do the South Park way of just killing boars in the start zone (which reminds me that maybe even the episode place for that whas wrong) then yeah it is just auto attack.
But you can not just say no skill, you still need to watch out which way you, if do not overpull and also finding the correct way of skills for MP5 usage.
Just like today there is still the possibility overhealing you could back then do overdamage which makes you soon run out of mana.
Meanwhile rogues had not such problem and could if played correct just go fast through the zones.
The only way I can imagine your complainment is correct is when you leveled a priest.
Priest leveling in classic is really so tedious as you can not really die thanks to your abilities but it just turns into keeping shield up and auto attack as you say there.

Well, i personally think having the grind come at endagame should be the way to go, questing (while leveling) shouldn’t be too difficult.

Difficult quests at endgame should also be there, but frontloading a tedious grind that isn’t particularly difficult, just time consuming, like in classic, is bad game design. I love grindy games like OSRS, but even there, the majority level block, some 1-90 is ‘‘easy’’ and that is what you need for most content, the 91-99 ‘‘endgame’’ block is EXTREMELY time consuming, but at that point you can already do most content and the 300+ hour grind for 99 is just for the extra sugar and prestige

You should have a relatively simple path forward to unlock all the stuff like story, pve, pvp, then at endgame you should grind hard, but frontloading a grind where you just autoattack mobs for hours and having it as some sort of badge of honor that ‘‘Aha, our game is so grindy from the getgo that most players don’t even stick around to the end’’ is not a good thing
