Normal bans are already so inconsequential and with the boost its almost completely mitigated.
whats stopping blizzard from banning bot accounts by asking for permission to see mac address when creating an account or presenting it to existing accounts to be allowed to play?
The consequences would be significantly increased and near permanent , to the point of almost eradicating botting as a whole
Isnt it obvious? Banning an account leads to more income since they have to get a new one.
Another option would be to force authenticators and ban IMEI of the device the authenticator was installed on.
In another topic a few weeks ago we had a bunch of people acting in heavy opposition to authenticators for this reason.
BAN on hardware / mac adresses
Not effective as they are using virutalized hardware / virtualized machines. You can change MAC adress to whatever MAC adress you want.
BAN on IP
Not effective, they are using residential VPNs and proxies

You dont need to run blizzard authentificator on mobile phone, you can run it on pc or android as virtual machine. So no IMEI nothing.
Only effective methods came to my mind from is from korea, when in most games you have to use your ID card or KSSN and mobile phone so when you are banned on your ID you are banned from more than just one service.
Also they have some kinda of law so hack makers, botters and so can face up to 5 years jail.
Then they need to make it work without a smartphone. As of now you need a smartphone to be able to use it.

they’re also using virtual machines so it won’t do anything. forcing authenticator is the only way to significantly drop bot amounts but people are gonna be against it for other reasons so that won’t seem to be happening either
The botters use fully automated software to run clients on their own VM with own randomly generated HW ID and on its own VPN. Prepackaged solutions exist for this and it adds no overhead to the whole operation.
