Why can’t hunters choose pet spec?

So pets are now locked to a certain spec.

Didn’t they make a bid deal about letting players pick the spec of their pets so we wouldn’t be locked to playing certain pets?

Why did they revert it?

Please bring it back :broken_heart: :crying_cat_face:

Embrace your true inner ranger and play MM without pet….na but really, i belive they reverted it to make pet families more relevant.

Hunter needs to be as simple as possible, giving hunters choices might as a result, provoke some thought and we can’t have that.

It made absolutely no sense to undo that change. For the type of content I play, tenacity and cunning pets are basically useless, which means I have 19 pet families to choose from instead of 59. If I wasn’t BM it would be 15.

There’s not a single good reason that I can think of for restricting our choices this way. Did they figure that everyone just tames cats and devilsaurs, anyway, so they might as well change it back?

That could very well encourage me to consider playing again, as a Hunter this time around…

But for real, I miss being able to choose what specialization my pet would be. It takes away some of the “Roleplay Fantasy” that you can find from playing as a Hunter.
Imagine, an Orc Survival Hunter, the roleplay being a Frostwolf Orc and having a wolf out with you to essentially serve as your tank while you fight the enemies. Now it doesn’t really work like that.

i want pets have special abityes like they had before :frowning:
like almoust every rare and spirit beasts had their own ability even manasabors in Suramar had one named manastorm whats now removed :frowning:

Could have been arranged with you getting to pick the passive and active skill for your pet.
But since we know both Leech and Primal Rage are clearly OP, these get slight nerfs with the rest being buffed or replaced with something better.

Say, the Cunning passive would grant avoidance as well as movement speed, and the Tenacity one decreases damage taken on top of extra health. This will bring the passives more in line but not sure how to balance a Bloodlust ability…

If you are a PvP guy… you are stuck with just a few pet families now.

I use only “Mortal Wounds” pets and mostly pets with “Leech” so my choises are just 2 - Ravager or Scorpid. (I dont like birds or wasps).

They wanted to make pets more standardised so that you didn’t feel obligated to pick certain ones to stay “meta” or have Hunters favoured heavily in PUGs over other classes. That’s what resulted in a lot of special abilities being pruned (I miss my battle rez).

It would be nice for there to be more pet flexibility again but it’s sadly been like this for a while now. :frowning:

they ninja nerfed hunter pets in 9.1.5 they dies now easyer :frowning:

are bm hunters good in pvp now then? last time i played it was MM hunters murdering people everywhere

Classic nostalgia?

I found it an odd decision at the time. Especially when they seemed to be embracing more cosmetic options and announced additional stable slots. How nice of them to give us more space to store all the beautiful pets that we will never use in day-to-day gameplay because they’re useless.
