Because the idea was to have a dragon class.
The problem is they cant just launch dracthyr as a race without a class so they made a class for the sake of coding most likely.
The 1 class 1 race combo allows them to fully dedicate them in animation as it has no outlier considerations.
As races are the animational point and not the class if dracthyr had other classes its animational kit would have to be done with all classes in mind
Does it make it far more niche sure, but imho i think it was a good move in this circumstance as it does deliever the fantasy of being a actual dragon. It doesnt feel like a race+class it just feels like a package.
Maybe not to be done everytime but once in a while to deliever in this manner i think its done well

And? That wont stop them from using magic and breathing fire. Not saying I’m against them being able to be other classes but they’d have to rework them in order to fit the race.

Thats because their drakonids we are drakthyrs.
They are mortals who hung around and became servants to the dragons, thus altering their bodies over time.
We were infused with the actual draconic magic.

the concept was to launch a Dragon fantasy, the class only exists because they dont want to code a Race to be a inbuilt class realistically.
The reason Drakthyrs can noly be evokers and evokers can only be drakthyrs is because:
they intended to Flesh out the class and race to animationally fit a Dragon aesthetic, if they adopted Other classes, they’d have to normalise the casting of the race to fit multiple casters as your current animations are based on the race u play not the class.
for example:
if u made a Drakthyr Mage, its Animation locks etc etc will automatically make it a DPS LOSS to create. because its Spell casting and more is Fit to Evokers.
blizzard told us why.
So they could both be completely designed as a package to fit a Aesthetic, which isnt achievable on races with multiple class options.

well we knew from the start this was to be, and why they’re doing it. and Sure its going to let a few people down in the process. bvut thats the case with any new class / race realistically.
i must say, it wouldnt make much sense for the Last Race with the Full power of the Aspects inside them to wield a bow though really. its Kinda Like. trying to take down a Army with a Knife while wielding the ability to drop a meteorite on them…
lore-wise it’d just be Self handicapping really.
it makes sense for other races as they kinda are born a Kid, without magic inside them…the skills are learnt, so choice exists because they have a choice in what they learn.
Drakthyr simpyl dont have that, u arent born a Child Drakonid, as their a Experimental weapon realistically, and the magic is Put inside you from creation. so your asking for Someone with full ability of magical power to just wield a bow and Initally be less effective.
noting more OP in world pvp then be avable just to fly away without useing a mount
