Why cant a original lvl60 character use legendaries it got back in vanilla?

I got this warrior from vanilla that got both Sulfuras and Thunderfury, but when i logged a shile ago i got surprised with him not being able to use either legendaries from classic…
(and i suspect if i had the glaives on a old lvl70, the same thing would happen)

i also noticed that their required levels to use have gone up to 30, along with the required levels for classic raids and tbc, when the lvl60s got converted to lvl25 and 70s got converted to 27.

i dont think this is very fair… i earned them and should be able to use them…

why this diference in levels!?
and why do set bonuses are still not usable!?

There’s quite a few items that have been messsed up with the level/stat squishes.

As for the those legendaries, i have them in my bank and i’m not seeing a level restriction in the tooltip. I was able to equip them still and the equip bonus was active - but that was on a 70 character.

If you can’t equip until 30 then it would take you an hour at most to level your char 5 levels, enough to use them or if your just after the appearance you could just transmog them.

A few reasons why:

  • To encourage players getting new gear
  • To prevent power creep
  • To prevent old items outpowering new ones

Also the reasons why they sunset gear every season basically…

this is a “vanilla” character, thats lvl 25 (previous 60) and i want to keep it that way… from time to time i like to run dungons with it…

i got full t1/t2, i cant get any better gear

im lvl25 -_-

its from vanilla, how could they!?

it’s just unfair… i got them i should be able to use them… its ridiculous the level increase now…

could a blue comment on this please?

Devs never comment on anything on EU forums, and even if they did, they would tell you exactly the same as these people are telling you. Its a side effect of rescaling the game, to prevent power creep, and since old legendaries are obsolete to 99% of the playerbase, its very unlikely they will do anything about it. If you wanna use them, just do the 5 levels to get you to 30, its a very minor inconvenience.

There was a level squish. You didn’t play for ages and complain about it? You’re not gonna use them anyways. If you do, you can level the character up, but outside of tbc timewalking they have no use.
We aren’t on vanilla anymore. The game moved on.

Just so you don’t meta game set bonuses from previous expansions into current content.

Just level up.

There was meta of people using old tier sets in new content - the one I remember was rogues using some old tier set at start of fights, vanishing, requipping gear with macro and continuing with new gear, which was apparently a dps increase significant enough to bother. I don’t remember or know exact details - if someone remembers please ping me ;p

Its funny but it has happened in the past.

Some items/bonus sets were used to exploit some abilities to hilarious levels.

Like +900% run speed for palas. Or 10M damage 1-shots.

So to prevent that kind of absurdities, blizz just shut off all the set bonuses (among other things).

i never stopped playing, thats why i noticed …
i like to play previous leveled chars in their respective expansion content…
i loved running Strat/Scholo/BRD/… all twinked out…

why do yall keep insisting in leveling the character?
dont you understand twinks?

i leveled it in its respective expansion, but want to keep them that way.

how can a lvl25 legendary be OP in any way?

im asking to use it at lvl25 instead of having to level it to lvl30, cause 30 its the characters that were lvl80 from the WOTLK expansion…

i really cant comprehend the required level change for a item like this…
some of you keep talking about the squish and not making it effecive for cap lvl, i want to use it at 25… on a character that has used it for more than a decade… how is this not plausible anymore!?

Blizzard have messed things up, fixed them, messed it up again, messed it up again and then fixed it while messing it up again like 3-4x since you last played your character. At this point the people who messed it up the first time haven’t worked at the company for years, neither are most of the people who messed it up the 2nd and 3rd time.

The people working there now, half of them don’t even know it was messed up to begin with. You can log into old characters and the items have been downgraded, while the same raids that dropped those items now drop the same items but 2-3x higher ilvl.

The whole game is broken beyond belief below the previous and current expansion. Rogues have a Legendary from Cata that can be equipped but you cannot cast any spells because they added a “one hand” requirement to cast abilities, and they are main-hand/offhand, so they can’t be used at all.

it’s ridiculous… it’s like they doing it on purpose to make things wrong/bad only having a tunnel like vision for the latest thing… seems like a social platform -_-

Just accept you’re not special any more, like you used to be at level 60 with these legendaries 10 years ago. Now you’re a “leveling” character, and the game is no longer balanced around you.

Is it unfair? Maybe. Can you change it? Most likely not. It would probably be best to accept reality and move on

They’ve grouped expansions together now to a degree. Vanilla and TBC are level 30, Wrath and Cata are 35, MOP and WoD are 40, Legion is 45. Not sure about BFA and SL, I assume they’re both 50.
If you go to zones there you’ll see what level the mobs are (they’ll scale with you until those max levels unless you’re in Chromie Time when they’ll scale up to 60).

Retail is a mess

No, Wrath zones scale to 30, Cata and MoP to 35, WoD to 40, Legion to 50, BfA to 60 and Shadowlands also to 60.

I wish things were usable in their supposed places…
It’s very sad to see “Deactivated” or similar on things.
Can’t make an “og”-toon for craps and giggles, in the same sense they used to be.

It’s unfortunately, but they can’t keep things set in the past, things go have to move forward and that does mean leaving things behind.

As others mentioned it’s in relation to caps, avoiding things being overpowered at this point of the game, if they leveled up to your existing level etc etc.

Just deal with and move on!

OP, there’s Classic servers if you’re that fixated on Vanilla. Times change, a level squish happened…

This is such a non-issue to be frank. Suck it up, and level up 5 levels to use them.

Would require a fair amount of work to keep older bonuses working. Spells get removed or changed so much that having a +Hit stat on a weapon now wouldn’t help much.
For me having a “Doubles damage of Magma totem” wouldn’t do much as that totem hasn’t been available to me for a long time, in fact most totems have been removed.
