Except, of course what comes from an achievement or a quest.
Defeats the purpose of collecting which is really popular in wow
That is true.
But it is often frustrating that nothing comes due to the small drop rate.
And even so, there would be a reason to collect it in order to sell it on the market.
Because then collecting will become “p2w”, just donate enough and buy everything from AH.
I think there are few players who get gold with real money.
If you farm it, it’s not p2w.These are cosmetic items
No however elements of p2w are considered skips of large grinds, which mounts are. Itd be deemed p2w due to how much of a shortcut this really would be.
There would be so many, they would be worthless.
not all but more should be BOE , at least the ugly old ones since %99 of players don’t use them and just have them as collectives
Wonder how much Invincible would be worth?
I gotten 3 of them over the years. Still can’t get that damn Blazing Drake though. Not sure how much I’d pay for it, 2 Invincibles maybe…
So all reputation mounts are worthless? Because you have to buy them, right?
A mount is not valuable because you are lucky. But because you like it.
Honestly the only thing that this thread said that won’t ruin the game for many people is the fact that drop rates are terrible. They are and no person should actually take hundreds of attempts to get any of them
The drop rate wouldn’t be so bad if you didn’t have to wait so long for most rares.
If mounts became BoE, their dropchance would have to be even more rare to still retain the illusion of value. So what was a 0.1% now, would have to become a 0.0001% chance if not less.
So, bots would start farming to sell on the AH, so Blizz would see their most popular casual gameplay loop die in front of their eyes. They panic! Because it got to be BoE. So dropchance gets a Drop Per Month limit as well (Let’s say 1 mount per month - and that is being gentle, because Blizz knows bots will transfer over BoE mounts, so they will be farming every single server).
Now you are fighting for that 1 chance of 0.0001% (one drop per server per month) dropchance to get the mount, against an army of an evergrowing army of bots.
So what is the end result from all this? Either:
a) Mounts gets farmed so efficently by bots that the marked crashes, mounts are now basically free.
b) Mounts costs goldcaps and is a pure p2w reward.
c) Your chance is lower than ever to get the mount you tried to farm for so long.
In short - “Why can’t all mounts be BoE?” Because it would ruin mount collecting forever as an activity to do.
The fact that such a large company does not know what to do with bots qualifies them.
“a) Mounts gets farmed so efficently by bots that the marked crashes, mounts are now basically free.” Free? Goldenmane cost around 200k gold. Do you know how long it takes for a casual player to collect so much gold?
Most of the problem stems from the fact that they are unable to do anything about the fraudsters.
A casual player will swipe his creditcard, as all true casuals do. Because the playerbase is old and got more money than time.
Mounts will be 200k week 1, 150k week 2, 10k week 3, 5k week 4… and so on.
Bots gonna bot, and bots play blizz in subs - so they will never remove them. Just hide them on their own little shards.
Out of sight, out of mind. If you find yourself on those bot shards, oh-my-oh-my, there are trains of them running in set paths, farming. You got raids of boomkins AoE farming trash mobs that instant respawn. It is a whole mess.
Pray tell, how should Blizzard fix the bot problem.
Imagine if the Sha of Anger was camped by 100 bots
I think they do it that way.
