There must be a lore reason or something, right?
Ate too many consumables. The NPCs you see that can fly freely make sure to stay in shape.
Can’t have convenience like that.
They will have this ability in 10.1.5, I think blizzard restricted this to force everyone test their new flying mechanics
Maybe to increase immersion
I don’t see how it increases immersion since dragons in basically all fantasy stories can just “hover”.
well, Blizzard in the future will add “Static Flying” (Old flying) and “Dinamyc Flying” (Dragonriding) to be used ANYWHERE that you can fly. Maybe they can’t fly like this for now, but in the future they will! (also hope that when they add these kinds of flying, Dracthyrs will get a Built-in mount that works like those that can’t Dragonride
Maybe in next patch?
we did get stop button in this patch so maybe next patch is button that will allow you to flap your wings so fast that you can stay in the air?
Guess they were simply trying to be realistic about it with the principles of general flying and all that.
Flapping/Hovering isn’t something to be generally done cuz its extremely exhausting work when you can just land, perch and/or snooze. Guess they wanted to make that a thing.
Because they’re not hummingbirds.
Though technically bats can hover as well, so if the devs wanted to they could do it without breaking physics.
But my guess is they don’t want to botch up new flying so they’d rather let people choose and keep each fun for their own audience.
I’m guessing they’d run out of vigor quickly when they did that.
Dragons are apparently gliding flyers, not hummingbirds, hovering would also be too convenient, and we can’t have that.
Blizz doesn’t like that they gave us flying back in BC, but the backlash when they tried do go without it made them realize that it’s a genie they can’t put back in the bottle again, so dragonriding is the compromise, flight, but not too convenient, because convenience is bad, apparently.
Its a replica of flying from GW2 which u couldnt hover either tbh.
Theyre bringing back old flying next patch, so they csnt hate it all that much, they just dont seem to like us to dtart off with that convience
They had their wings clipped at birth and you are telling me the aspects are not evil
Sure, but I don’t see birds flying in a rollercoaster fashion to regain vigor, so the realism is rather selective.
The “realistic flying” excuse would only hold water if it also applied to NPCs. Which it doesn’t. Or if it had been a thing for drakes we’ve had since forever.
There’s no real reason beyond forcing us to use the new system and giving us the alternative any sooner would be admitting mistakes, which Blizzard are historically very much incapable of. It does seem we’re getting flying back later in the expansion though along with the current falling management.
Yh lorewise is easier to bot farm that way.
EDIT: it’s hilarious people hate bots but then promote mechanics that facilitates botting🤔.
Dragonflying is basically fancy gliding.
A real easy one to answer.
Animals by nature cannot remain in rhe sky with moving forwards. Its quite litterally biology.
There needs to be a lore reason to why exsctly they have been able to in WoW more then a reason why they cant.
Because the ability to goes against every law of flight.
Our dragonflyers simply dont possess the magical properities of static flying. Simples.
“stop dragon… stop!! You’re flyin… WE’RE GONNA CRASH!!” NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!"
dragon “behave yourself mortal, even if I hurtle into this solid rockface at 100 mph I will simply land with a thud and nothing will happen. Oh look! A rabbit! I’ll stun it on landing!”
Most birds and flying animals use thermal air currents to propel themselves. If a bird was to continuously flap its wings it would die of exhaustion in one day. The only birds who can continuously “fly” are hummingbirds and they can only do it because of the energy they get from their primary food, nectar which they can convert straight into energy. The hardest part of flight for any animal is the same challenges aircraft face, take-off and landing. The only animals that have to rely on their wings are insects and even then, they spend approximately 30% of their lifetime in the air.
Therefore if dragons were to be biologically correct (even though it’s impossible for the simple reason they are too big and too heavy) then their size and body structure would dictate that they would mostly likely be gliders and not flyers, much like the “flying” dinosaurs of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Even the first “true” bird, Archaeopteryx, was a glider and not a flyer. Birds gained the ability to flap their wings to provide updraft a good time later in animal history. Insects had been doing it and mastered it for millions of years before them, and are still the true masters of the skies.
Even in WoW the dragon characters hover
