Like targeting the nearest enemy instead of the one 30 yards away ?
how about you just make a macro for that then
I’d actually argue that tab targeting is done very well in WoW, it was far worse in SWTOR. usually tab targeting would target a far mob only after several tabbing through mobs.
It used to target the nearest enemy. Nowadays…
I just died yesterday because the tap targeted a 25 yards away enemy instead of the crowd I had in front of me.
I hate when a free death strike gets wasted…
It should target the nearest enemy first.
which is what it does for me 99% of the time.
I think right now, it targets the enemy which is radially closest to what is front of you, regardless of how far away it is.
The Tab key broke on my last keyboard, forcing me to invest in a proper gaming one. Blizzard are in cahoots with kb manufacturers.
Yeah, I’ve been finding this too. It used to work totally fine but seems to have got totally broken with the Shadowlands launch. It’s rather annoying to say the least! In Torghast it likes to tab to the breakable urns instead of the crowd of mobs I’m engaged in combat with - great design!
same… yesterday pulled 10 mobs far far far far far far away in a dungeon…
last time happened in cata days. probably somethin went wrong
./console TargetNearestUseOld 1 fixed tab targeting for me, had the issues you reported and more
5 targets in combat, tab target cycles between 2 out of those plus one mob that’s not in combat and doesn’t touch the other 3 I’m in combat with (leveling spriest so working tab target is great for DoTs)
The setting is reset every ui reload and relog
TAB targeting works 100% for me, go make a macro
If i ta-target the wrong mob and attack, usually think it’s y stupid fault
Just press V to bring up mob health bars, eaiser to tell what you’re attacking
It cycles through the targets available, this seems so difficult for some people to comprehend. I have no idea why.
As stated above, for some it simply doesn’t work great, you’re in combat with 5 mobs and tab target only cycles through 3 and 1 of those 3 is not the mobs you’re in combat with
What is the user doing wrong then? Is he pressing TAB the wrong way?
This happens to me sometimes. Not all the time, but I’ve noticed it tends to happen the most with my long-range classes, which results in accidental pulls if I don’t notice in time.
I don’t know if it’s me or the game, but I’ve simply trained my eyes to account for it whenever I have to tab switch targets - I double and then triple check to make sure I’m locked onto the right mob. It’s a hassle and it might mean my dps isn’t optimal as I wait a second to start blasting, but it works.
Clearly the tab targeting is more intelligent than ever.
I mean imagine being in Torghast fighting 2-3 mobs in melee range and not being able to quickly tab to a phylactery 20 yards away. That would really be a pain…
Tab targeting is fine IMHO. It’s mouse targeting that’s all over the place and virtually impossible with even just a few enemies stacked on top of one another.
Or aim your camera right and it will target the right stuff…
Select “Stacking Nameplates” if you have issues with mouse targeting.
As a general rule, fix your UI so it is smooth uncluttered and easy to see and do what you need to see and have done.
That doesn’t really help, though. Then it’s difficult to tell which nameplate belongs to which mob, and they keep jumping around, making it, yet again, really difficult to target what you want.
