Why did Sylvanas burn Teldrassil? Plothole

In Battle for Azeroth we know that Sylvanas wanted to kill hope, but now we know that everything she has been doing is to send as many souls to the Jailer as possible.

We all know that many Night Elves become wisps when they die and not go to the Shadowlands, so why did she burn the tree? Did she know that Elune would send them to Shadowlands instead? Why would she even know that, Elune said that she thought of that in the wake of tragedy.

Do you see wisps around the husk of Teldressil? Because I certainly encountered night elf souls in the maw and Ardenweald, but I haven’t seen a single wisp near Teldressil

Yeah, that’s what I said Elune didn’t let them be wisps and she sent them into the Shadowlands.

I hope this isn’t the case and there is some explanation why Sylvanas did it.
I know that lately they retcon many things like how they retconned Stonewright a character that only existed for first patch and got retconned already.

Ok, let’s try an explanation that would make sense and would not create this plothole.

Sylvanas knew that burning the tree would be considered an abominable warcrime. So she did it, because she expected all the alliance (and possibly horde) would rally against her and thus bring to her thousand of soldiers that she could easily defeat and send to the maw.

Hm, but Sylvanas is not that powerful to defeat them, her loyalists are not many.
She almost lost to Malfurion alone, I don’t think she could fight entire armies.

So basically she could’ve destroyed Draenei’s home, their souls are worth much more anima and her plan would make much more sense.

That being said
Remember Sylvanas is also a stupid girl whose motto is “I will not serve [anyone]”, which coincidentally works pretty well with the general feminist agenda every big company is trying to push around the world for some time now.

So
Don’t think too hard. She’s just a girl that need no man, who does whatever she likes, including commiting genocides.

Ironically, this is a very funny illustration of the next-gen feminists.

I think that they are just making her seem stupid, I used to love sylvanas, she was cunning and she would make her people survive for so long against all odds.

Everything that she does from BFA till now makes no sense for her character.

I think writers for World of Warcraft do a terrible job at writing female characters, almost all female characters are traumatized victims who wanted justice but were called monsters for it.

  • Jaina wants justice for Theramore, she gets called same as Arthas for her actions, and choses to forgive Horde AGAIN.

  • Tyrande wants to avenge her dead people, she gets called a crazy woman and then choses renewal instead of justice.

  • Sylvanas wanted justice against Arthas and gets called so many words for being Forsaken and that wasn’t even her choice, Arthas literally abused her of course she will want justice.

She did that cause Current Writers dont have to deal with the hornest`s nest lore and are authorized to plant their fanfiction to annoy as many customers as they can cause thats their main KPI factor, at least judging by their recent track record.
no hits, hot misses

I’ve seen much worse. xD Have you read Name of the Wind from Patrick Rothfuss ? In his novels, every female is introduced by the narrator (who is also the main protagonist) by saying something about the size of her breasts.

Regarding Sylvanas, it feels like a missed opportunity to me. She wanted justice so much against Arthas, then at some point she must have realized that it was not Arthas who decided to make her a banshee and basically “raped” her, at least symbolically.
How would you feel if you discovered after so much time that the dude who did something like that to you was in fact a victim aswell ? A victim of a pervert with a kink for domination. What would you do ? Become the daddy’s girl of the pervert ? Feels really very weird.

Unless Sylvanas is playing triple-spy and expected to betray Zo’val à some point, but last disclosed cutscenes proved that wrong.

At this point, Sylvanas is more written to be a tortured character. It looks like everything that can happen that will torture her persona even more is bound to happen.

Quite simple. Saurfang was supposed to finish off Malfurion, which would massively demoralise the Nelves + possibly Alliance but he didn’t.

Due to this failing, and dying elf woman, she thought well ok screw the occupation BURN IT!

Why she didn’t finish off Malfurion herself idk.
Why she even struggled to fight him when she owned Saurfang without even trying idk.

it took the ENTIRETY of the alliance, plus the rebellious horde, to muster enough numbers to face in a desperate attack her loyalist forces.
And if she kept her cool she would have won that battle.

What loyalists? Many who choose to be loyal ended up attacking her like a Piñata for loot in the new raid

Because the writers fail to realise that they portray Sylvanas as utterly stupid.

It literally is this. Bad writing. They’re not thinking anything out, or planning ahead.

It’s akin to laying track down in front of a speeding train and hoping you don’t run out of track before the train runs out of fuel.

Because the writing is terrible, and they changed their mind on Sylvanas’ motivation halfway through BFA when Danuser decided that she needs a redemption arc.

You know
When You think about it more and more it makes even less sense.

She started the War to fuel the Maw with souls allegedly, She doesn’t want to randomly kill a whole bunch of Night elves allegedly, She kills them all anyway so their souls would go to the Maw.

Elune could make them wisps but doesn’t because she heard the Winter Queen talk about the drought but She doesn’t know why there is one and isn’t aware all souls are sucked down to the Maw (which incidentally benefits the Jailor, yet may not have been Sylvannas’ original intention
or was it) yet she knows there is a drought (does She think everyone in the Universe just isn’t dying?)

So what really was Sylvannas’ intention because it seems like everything is just made up as they go along, also Elune is a moron and it makes You wonder what random and ever changing reason Sylvannas had to start the War in the first place.

The only reason is some writer said “oy let’s boorn the whopping tree! That wou’d be bonkers! Big moment wou’d be init?” and the others answered “bloody oy! ya mate! Sîme tearjerk me bloke! Bit daft boot chuff! Let doo t’is”

Nothing more.

very obvious really.

Sylvanas is a female character. The souls will come back and forgive her and she will be ‘redeemed’ by Elune and all the other souls thatll say something like ‘oh hush you, youre female and cant do anything wrong so you were probably just having a bad day. Hush now, go to your rest that you so richly deserve cos some male forced you to do it. We forgive you and boo men’
100 quid says this is precisely what happens to the storyline
