Lol. If you know you’re about to wipe out the majority of a population and do it anyways it IS intended.
Because she could.
Nothing, absolutely nothing reflected she was planning that.
It’s curious that in 2 interviews, when asked about genocide by the interviewer, neither Ion or Danuser refutes it.
1st interview by Polygon to Ion Hazzikostas, April 5, 2019:
The Alliance has largely served as a foil for the Horde. The Horde, on the other hand, are dealing with a deep division. Horde players who do not agree with Sylvanas were given the option to choose a route of defying her … but this comes after they were made complicit in genocide. It’s not the burning of Darnassus that motivated them, but the follow-up decisions by Sylvanas.
When I ask Hazzikostas about the developer’s intent on putting this on Horde players, and if they think it can go too far, he briefly hesitates.
“It’s a heavy responsibility, and it’s not one that anyone on the team takes lightly,” he says. “Our aim in storytelling is always to evoke emotion. If that goes too far, it can feel exploitative, it can feel like players are caught in a situation they don’t want to be in. We want people to stick around, to play with their friends, and to see the end of the story we’re telling.”
For players, they’ve spent months dealing with the burden of Darnassus. For characters like Tauren druids, or Blood Elf paladins, this can feel like an overwhelming loss of agency. Many Horde players are also concerned because a similar tale played out two expansions ago in Mists of Pandaria, with Garrosh Hellscream. For these players, the second corrupt Warchief in under five years might suggest that the Horde they have been playing under for a decade or more is broken, and not worth defending.
2nd interview, Window Central to Steve Danuser, published by Wowhead:2020/03/18:
The Alliance seems overly accepting and forgiving of the fact the Horde burned down Teldrassil and genocided the Elves, in my view. I feel a bit like that is glossed over, perhaps?
In the epilogue scenes in Visions of N’Zoth, we wanted to show that Tyrande clearly has not forgotten what happened and will not accept any treaty that doesn’t see Sylvanas—and the Horde—answer for the crimes of burning the World Tree and the murder of innocents.
Wars have a way of changing the world and those who inhabit it, in ways both broad and subtle. These changes do not resolve cleanly in a short span of time; that wouldn’t feel genuine or true to the deep wounds inflicted by the Fourth War. So, while many fans are eager to see the resolution of what happened at Teldrassil, there is a lot more story that needs to unfold before it can be fully addressed. These characters have a long way to go, and many more lessons to learn.
Cheers.
It’s not about planning it weeks in advance. It is about knowing the consequence of your action and doing it anyways the moment it happens. Imagine standing in court due to having given the order to set a shop on fire and defending yourself with “Well, I didn’t plan to give the order the week before, but did it nonetheless.”
It does matter, why do you keep saying it does not. Premeditating an act is grounds for increased punishment according to our laws which you are using as a standard to assign blame to the respective character. And still even in the heat of the moment it still wouldn’t count as genocide, because, yet again, it didn’t meet the requirements to be genocide. This wasn’t accidental or intended genocide because it wasn’t genocide.
Genocide
- the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.
Burning Teldrassil, the most populated Night Elf city and saying “I will kill hope” and doing it out of spite is genocide.
But you can say whatever, writers confirmed it and everyone is calling it genocide I don’t really care if you don’t, if it’s not genocide it’s a massacre.
It doesn’t matter, this wasn’t even the point of this thread, just stop.
This is their writing workshop situation https://i.ibb.co/0XM6kgZ/messy-workshop-5171461.jpg
It was explained in the cinematic. Sylvanasa burned the tree to destroy hope. Meanwhile, in Ardenweald. The denizens suffer from the anima draught brought on by Zovaal and Sylvanas(Cause the arbiter isn’t directing souls anymore and thus they go to the maw)
So Elune, being the sister of the winter queen(and not knowing about the Jailer’s actions), decided to help her sister and send those souls the Shadowlands. BUT we all know they went to the maw instead(And as a Night Fae ally, we get to rescue some of those souls).
Now, I don’t think Sylvanas knew Elune would send those souls to the shadowlands. BUT it’s not like it wasn’t predictable. The future can only have so many road-intersections per choice it isn’t that hard to predict what may/may not occur(Although this argument can be questioned due to Sylvanas’ stupidity)
No you confirmed it by pretending it’s something that it’s not. It either is or it isn’t and don’t tell me to stop please, I don’t care if you don’t like me disagreeing with you, it’s not gonna change the meaning of genocide.
But they explained that all her actions were to pour more souls into the Maw, why would she care about “killing” hope, that means there won’t be more wars if they don’t have hope anymore.
But Elune wanted to send those souls into Ardenweald, that means that she didn’t care about the Arbiter, she wanted to surpass her and send souls to Ardenweald.
So why did they even go to the Maw?
I died.
I really don’t know. Cause a world without hope is easier to conquer or something? Your guess is as good as mine but Sylvanas always came off as the “I want to kill and eliminate hope” cause hope is an ally of justice and so on. You know, the usual spiel with good guys.
most likely cause Elune knew those souls would go to Ardenweald due to their very nature as Night elves. I have, personally in-game: Yet to meet a Azeroth-dead night elf that wasn’t in Ardenweald.
Shortly put: I have never met say. A Bastion Night elf or a Maldraxxian night elf.
Also, again. They went to the Maw cause of the Arbiter’s inaction. Had she not been so. She would have sent(most likely have sent*) night elf souls to Ardenweald cause that’s where they belong more or less.
literally nowhere in the cinematic or novels, afaik is this stated. Source please?
She said; " I heard your cries, felt your pain, and in the wake of tragedy, sent forth the cascade of souls to sustain you."
She sent her, does that mean that she wanted to surpass the Arbiter? How else would she be able to.
We saw Night Elf souls in Bastion and Revendreth, I’m not sure about Maldraxxus though.
I think you guys are giving too much thought into the lore; when wow has many lore plot holes.
Remember when that Blood elf said he remembered being kicked out of Ashenvale? He would be super old to the point where he should be dead even for Blood elf years. And I believe his mother was alive too. Like that not logical.
And then there was another plot hole where a Dark Ranger Blood elf claims she knew Shandris Feathermoon many years ago.
The wake of tragedy bothers me. Cause we don’t know which tragedy she is talking about. The burning of Teldrassil or the Anima Draught? Most likely the latter but the former can also be used in a sense though I disgress(This was a point I just wanted to bring up for sake of discussion. As I’ve seen it been brought up before)
Cause most, if not all Night elves due to, again: Their nature Go to ardenweald. We see this first hand as Night fae when we are tasked to travel into the maw and return the souls. All souls we return go back to Ardenweald even though we, the players. Technically have the option to dump them in any of the four realms.
Maybe you did. Maybe others did as well. But I have not seen a single Night-Elf aspirant or Venthyrian Night elf. With the biggest “WHAT-IF” exception being the Elune warriors(I;E people blessed with the power of Elune’s night warrior).
Though we don’t know if they were night elves prior so that argument is moot. And based off of information we already have. There IS a possibility said Night warriors could be anything but Night elves. As with that Dreadlord on the vindicaar and the human as well.
Point is. As far as we know. Those previous night warriors are just that, used-to-be Night Warriors. Nothing tells us that they used to be night elves. And while it is true that N-elves worship Elune, that doesn’t mean only N-elves do so.
Or so I believe anyways. I’m sceptic regarding it.
It being genocide does not make it spite. No one is disputing that it’s genocide.
Well genocide means that when someone wants to exactly kill the certain population of people, I was saying that she wanted to kill Night Elves, spite or not it’s genocide.
But there are not many other reasons why someone would commit genocide.
Agree.
But I think I know why the writers would write such event:
“The aftermath of a war is always messy. Expect repercussions from the Fourth War to carry forward for a long, long time.”
Steve Danuser.
(Same interview mentioned above).
Cheers.
why did she not use the goblin build massive cannon ? take some shoots on Stormwind while shes useing it …
