Why do Brokers exist

Don’t get me wrong, brokers are kinda neat, but they are pretty much the same as Ethereals, minus their origins. Everyone likes Ethereals and they have exactly the same motives as the Brokers. Shadowlands was a perfect opportunity to give the race a place in the story. I think it would have made Shadowlands lore feel much more grounded in the narrative and actually connected to Warcraft.

Yes, it feels weird when they’ve made the Brokers as Ethereals of Death and then removed any connections between the two when the Brokers could’ve been the afterlife of the Ethereals.

I think that a large part was cut from SHL and they wanted to make it too much of a standalone expansion.

If you noticed, everything in SL is copy/paste concepts from the old lore with fanfiction-quality of storytelling.

• Brokers are the SL version of Ethereals
• Maldraxxus is the SL version of Eastern plaguelands
• Maldraxxus covenant is the SL version of the scourge
• Ardenweald is the SL version of Emerald dream
• Winter queen is the SL version of Elune (They didn’t even bother to make the two unrelated)
• Sylvanas is the SL version of Garrosh plus Redemption because she’s a waifu material
• The jailer is the SL version of Sargeras (Destroy everything for the greater good and without even bothering to explain).
• The maw is the SL version of Icecrown
• Torghast is the SL version of ICC
• Kyrian is the SL version of the Val’kyr
• Ravendreath dreadlords are SL version of the original dreadlords (Who had a full background and lore including a homeworld that all got retconned in SL)
• Jailor-dominated Anduin is the SL version of Arthas/Lich king\
• Patch 9.2 name is the same as the name of Chapter 7 in WC3

Just reused ideas and concepts under a new name and “They’re better because they’re part of the cosmic forces. They’re the oRiGiNaLs!” or something like this.
At this point, I’d not mind if Blizzard rebooted the entire game for the sake of proper lore AND consistency.

I find it hard to ponder why anything particular within the Shadowlands exist, when I still can’t fathom that the Shadowlands exist ingame. I’m ready to forget all about the brokers in a few months, even though they were one of the more enjoyable parts of this addon’s setting.

It is pretty obvious, Brokers are Ethereals, same species i believe. Just different evolution path. Brokers are probabbly ethereals Pre-dimensius, that somehow ascended as energy on their own. And travel the universes for knowledge/artifacts. Ethereals gained their energy forms due to exposure to violent energies on the planet while dimensius was trying to manifest.
