Why do casters have to work harder than melee in pvp?

i have about 50,000 keys on keybinds and im still interupted, stunned, god knows what else just trying to escape, let alone cast. I hear that dumb roar of a DH who LITERALLY has max 8 buttons to press. Why can’t their be a whole shift of how wow pvp is played? how did we end up with this elitist mess that only very very few can excel in. You can say GG all you want, and you are right to an extent, but I don’t want to be in the top 1%, just a few competitive games would be good playing the class I enjoy, which as a casual caster in solo shuffle is proving absolutely impossible. I’m trained as a mage every single fight, even with my three blinks, alter time, they are still on me the entire time.

Craft precognition on a piece of gear and fake cast. But playing mage in SS is absolutely horrific in general anyway.

Casters generally have a higher skill-cap, and are stronger in higher ratings.
Melees have lower skill-cap for the most part, and are stronger in lower ratings.

If you are mostly going to play casually, melee is better, for sure

Edit: the best resource on how to survive as mage would be to search youtube for "Aeghis"

its a pve game that happens to have pvp as a side minigame, the game is balanced for m+ where they feel everyone must have everything

Melee players traditionally have a lower IQ, so the game has to be easier for them.

You cant really say it like this. Some caster have to work harder than meele some dont.

If you just gonna look at it from afar, you can say a Warrior or a Dh can be harder to control than a mage and have a easier time to get their dmg out.

On the other side of things you have meele like feral, sv hunter etc. who actually have to work for their dmg while trying to survive, while for example warlocks just stand in the middle of the map playing turret faceroll.

Or how devastation, balance , augmentation , elemental etc. also are just able to faceroll their dmg.

Its really a case to case thing on who has to work harder than who

tldr: A Warlock will work harder than a dh but a feral will work harder than a warlock but a shadow priest will work harder than a feral and so on

Also caster convert better to high rating than meele, and i would say thats a good trade off, working harder , but once reaching a higher skill ceiling beeing rewarded with higher rating

Sometimes Warlock was not require more then DH

I remeber DH was a 3 button specc and the only skill was too land manaburn
Meanwhile Wl got 2million haste from corruption and was standing in the middle of the Arena press dark and his def for CC immunity and was casting 0.2 sec Chaosbolts back too back
Or you passive spawn infernals that was solo the hole team

casters have perks / cons

  • spells ignoring armour values,
  • dealing damage from range
  • generally scale better than most melee with gear ( warlocks as an example )
  • spells feel stronger than general melee abilities ( forces melee to focus on casters so they cant cast ) leaving 1 caster free casting can be a nightmare for the team.
  • have low micro CC but high Long CC spells ( poly, Fear, MC, lasso, hex, etc )

thats generally it i think,

example of casts you cant let go off ,

  • Chaos bolt, Cyclone, void torrent, oblivion, UA, Gpyro, glacial etc…
theres plenty of spells that are very strong and scary

This is funny cos most warlocks used haste/versa corruptions and actually had less haste/versa with corruptions than right now without them. Full haste build was troll and not really viable since you would simply die to air. Actually youre complaining about weakest lock build possible at that point. Personally if i had to choose the most braindead destro ever it would be legion s5-s7 with 1 min cd wall.

That’s a lot of dungeons

Yeah well this doesn’t really exist as a term. Casters require teammate assistance in order to excel, as well as solid healers keeping you alive.

That’s part of the journey. You can solve all these problems by grabbing a Rogue teammate that makes the entire enemy team a training dummy for you, and a Resto druid who keeps you alive forever.

Every caster in the game (excluding probably Demo Warlock, not a real caster) is high punish or high reward. Good caster players are immortal gods on high rating where they also get to play with good teammates, especially healers, who keep them alive, and lower-experience caster players play in lower ratings where their team isn’t helping them out and they themselves don’t know how to win, therefore they get ran down by melees and die.

Writing this from the perspective of someone who plays a lot of Destruction warlock. For Solo Shuffle exclusively, it’s usually about what is healing you. If I get priest healers or a Fistweaver, the lobby is over for me. I have to try 10 times harder to even have a slight chance. But if I have 3 melees training me, if I have a decent Resto Druid or Holy paladin, I have a pretty good chance of winning most games.

Ok not viable ?
At what raiting 3k raiting + ? It was rly good compaired with a Firemage that spam greater pyro with haste corruption, so if you go on WL and abuse the fact he isnt so tanky you got the firemage pumping you

Haste Wl was maybe not the most OP one and got a carry from fire mage but it was a rly stupid gamedesign too face

Warlock was a lot of time OP, i remember the worst one for me was the infernal that procc and destroy everythink behind pillars and if you peak out the WL was blasting you
But i cant remeber the season

I always have to giggle when I read that caster players actually think they are somehow, for some reason, intellectually superior
