I’m a little confused about XP locking. I know it’s something a lot of players do but I’m not entirely sure how it works. This was explained to me a while ago but it was in chat and I can’t remember what they said.
Could someone explain it again please? At least if it’s here I can come back and read it if I forget again (I have memory problems! )
Basically, it’s for people who wan’t to stop their XP gain from quests, mobs etc, so they won’t level past that point (lets say level 60).
I think it was added, at first, for people who liked to Twink in PvP. They added experience from PvP kills and/or winning BGs, and thus kinda ruined it for the twinkers, so they added the XP lock for those what wanted it.
So what they did was to get to level 19 or 29, and they got the best piece of equipment available at that level range, then locked their experience so they wouldn’t level past this.
I have a character locked at 80 which I plan to use for getting the remaining Argent Tournament mounts without making it boring by overleveling it. Maybe something like this works for others?
Other than twinking there is a demand for doing content without it being too easy. Shouldn’t come as too much as a surprise because most other genre of games have difficulty settings and a lot of people enjoy playing on hard or very hard for the challenge.
Arguably its one of the better things about classic WoW…
So, if I understand correctly, if I lock XP at, say 90, does that mean I can do all of Cataclysm (or Pandaria - or go and do both?) without going past level 90 and do the WHOLE region while staying at level 90?
If so, can it be unlocked again to progress once I’m ready? And then locked again at, say, 100 so I could enjoy all of Draenor? Or is there a limit to how many times you can lock a character?
I know it’s completely off-topic, but I get a lil’ shimmer in the heart everytime I stumble upon one of your comments, and set my eyes upons that sweet face of yours. I believe that’s what we call love.
I am going to lock my zandalari troll at 80 to finish Herald of the Titans and then I’m gonna lock it again at 112 so he can use legion legendaries and azerite gear.
You’ve understood it correctly.
Just note that some zones have caps on them.
For example, if you’re level 70, all the “classic” zones will still cap out at 60.
I’ve done this multiple times (prior to scaling). There is no real ingame benefit from it at all, it’s just a personal preference to be about the same level as the content I am doing. I feel it adds more to my immersion and enjoyment of gameplay.
I regularly lock my alts to 90 just to enjoy Pandaria for a bit longer and pick up all the dungeon transmogs without levelling out of the LFD tool.
Right now, I’m working on Tillers rep, since I never got that to exalted before, but I also finished up Order of the Cloud Serpent a few days ago and got my first mount from it. Feels better to do these things at the appropriate level than as a 120 going in and 1-shotting it all
The stat squish has sadly made XP locking less satisfying. Dungeon loot and quest loot are all the same ilvl at 90, which kind of kills the idea of doing any older content seriously.
