Why do so little play tanks?

Haha… I didn’t bother to try if word “cra” “p” is a word you can post. :stuck_out_tongue:

So I wrote it crab.

actually, crab is quite fitting for the topic. you walk sideways so you dont get hit in the back, got a protective shell, claws, a knife and you are pretty quick too.

on a more serious note, i think crap is fine but leave it like that its funny.

My few cents. I was leveling guardian druid y-day. Thanks god I am finished.

  1. Some of Dungeons are hard ( looking at NW  )

  2. There are some strats you need to done right

  3. Unexperienced healers - some of them was just … new to the healing i guess.

  4. Damage dealers - Most of them are ok. But some of them are just - pull bigger, go faster, skip this, skip that, they start to pull more and more mobs, are toxic, pulling boss before I wrote some basics ( when I feel there s a newer player to SL ). As a tank, you ve done 95 % things right, there s one you missed and suddenly they lose their cr*p. Using vote kick as a revenge and tool to get rid of players. + Not kicking, stunning, dodging.
Kudos for all the friendly players out there.

It is just atrocious, terrible and it does not matter that 4/5 guys are ok, the one is always enough.

Also only two raid spots available for tanks. That every1 needed to have 2 raid. So in short 2 spots, quickly filled.

Pretty much all has been said. Toxic people are a big number 1 i guess. For myself om whatever. I do what i need to do and if that doesn’t fit Them, it is their loss and not mine.

It’s because the constant **** talking and other abuse tanks and healers get.

I used to love healing but got bored of people and their abuse my idea of fun is not listening to childish morons and their nonsence on my free time.

Because of increased responsibilities.

Tanks are expected to know everything about the instance, each boss, each trash pack, all skips and other shenanigans, what to do for each role. This is more than many people want to do.

Tanks, together with healers, are also the universal blame target. This gets to some.

A quick example: yesterday in Halls of Atonement, the last boss shoots four rays towards statues, I block one, nobody else blocks anything, the three unblocked rays reach the statues and they aoe everyone down. First thing I hear in chat? “Tank? wtf you are doing, new here?” Now, I calmly explained what went wrong, what we have to do and we completed the boss. But you get the idea of the bs that happens. Nobody except tank has a clue and tank couldn’t solo the boss, being the bastard he is = must be tank’s fault. Plenty of people decide that tanking isn’t worth the hassle.

I find tanks for my groups quite fast, but what I have noticed is a healer drought. Seriously. This expansion (and Classic leveling because nobody levels as healer lol) is the only time I have found a tank quicker than the healer.

I leveled my first tank in tank spec from 1-60 fairly recently, I like it that I don’t die as rule, altho he takes an age to kill things down but I can live with that. I mainly level and quest with IRL friends which is prob the reason I play the game as we chat on a social level as we play. Keeps us entertained whilst the wives watch their soaps etc.

Anyway we took the plunge into our first SL dungeon the other day, did some basic reading before hand of boss mechanics (only a couple of mins) and dived straight in, got a group instantly.

The abuse I got from 2 of the group, wow. Got through it and felt good that we did (me and my mate) however it knocks you and you think this is just a game and I ain’t taking this again so I was hesitant to run another, which I haven’t done since.

Reading this thread tho has restored a bit of confidence somewhat and gonna give another go, so thanks for that :+1:

There is a minority in tanks (and healers) because the roles are boring with most of the responsibility.

Was doing a Normals LFG two weeks ago with my healer. Kept spamming flash heals on this one tank. Mana was draining super fast.
I’d normally keep healing despite the difficulty, because in my mind- searching for a second group will take the same time as finishing a painful run.
I remarked: (to the tank) “damn man it’s so hard to heal you”. Mind you- this is the only thing I typed since the start.
His dps friend replied with: “you’re one *itchy dude for a healer”
Alt-F4’d on the spot.

I am tanking in this expansion and i cam tell you that you have like 10× more you have to learn. I have run all mythic on +2 just to learn what trash i need to kill to cap %. Then i had to learn ever single boss and trash mechanic becouse trash actualy have lot of mechanics what impacts tanking like mobs stacking attacks speed buffs.

It takes lot of effot. Now imagine that i had runs where dmg heroes had more dmg taken on bosses than me as tank. I felt pretty bad for our healer to heal so muxh unesessery dmg.

When i play dmg in dungeon it always blows my mind how simple everything is in this position.

Just wait till u start with 10s + where u have to make a rotue that works perfectly because u have pridefulk every 20% and u want it either on boss or realy strong pack.

Also something i did, and then i went into some 10s on tyra where boss lives way longer just to find out there is a lot of stuf ive never seen.

Good luck with tanking tho, once u master it, it can be realy fun, at least is for me.

You are not done yet, just in case. You will also have to learn all the different types of wipes, who’s fault it was and how to tell them what to do so that they listen. In addition you will also have to learn which specs have which dispels / controls / etc, so that you can bail out of groups that don’t have enough for the instance + affixes you are aiming to run (you can skip that for lower-level keys, but eventually you are going to hit it). Etc.

Tanks have to know way, way, way, way more than anyone else. In return, though, the run is yours. You are in charge.

There are tanks in organised groups, no one wants to tank PUGs cause of toxic waste it became.

This expansion I started keys by pushed my own as tank. I found tanking boring. I just find dps more thrilling. Sure tanks have responsibility, but after one or two runs on a dungeon that responsibility starts to fade away as you learn the correct path and so on. Good thing about tanking role is that you don’t have to watch how people take wrong path and kill trash in stupid spots where it is very good chance for ninja pulls.
