Why does it take a million simulations to find out if my new item is an upgrade?
Why do we have to sim for a new set of bracers surely we can work out how on average each stat affects our character. Everything about the game can be brought down to averages, class procs, trinket procs, that’s why it does a million sims and not 5.
Why is there not an addon that knows these averages and says this is best in bag, I understand some of the limitations of pawn (it doesn’t deal with haste or other stat thresholds, it will allow you to ignore your weakest stat to the point that you have too little).
I have seen addons do some amazing things through my time in wow, I understand Blizz don’t want an addon doing a million sims on their servers every time an item drops but if an addon was to arrive that stopped everyone needing to sim every item and just said this is your best in bags surely we would all be using it and knowing whether we can trade or keep our loot.
The answer cant be talents either because they come down to averages too, I get that adding haste may change a proc per minute of a talent etc but all of that can be determined and not require a million sims.
Any addon that solved the need to sim would be able to make it’s writer money and would be popular.
I know this is something Blizz know is a problem because they want people to not feel the need to have to sim to know if their loot is worth equipping.
I know I may not be super smart but I’ve thought about this for years and every answer I have ever seen has always been over confusing or wrong.
Please someone help me to understand why we still sim, why can’t I get an addon that simply says this will increase my DPS, I’m really fed up with carrying bags full of gear and far to lazy to sim every item and I already pay Blizzard money to play wow, I shouldn’t have to pay Raidbots or AskMrRobot as well just to play the game at the expected level.
because blizzard went down a rabbit hole with the way stats, talents and gear works nowadays and its just not clear anymore when a certain stat becomes better etc. so people need to simulate over 100k fights in order to figure stuff out. thanks blizzard.
You can work out your current stat weights with sim and use the addon pawn with those to see immediatly if the item is an upgrade or not. Of course you then have to sim your new stat weights…
So I understand, are you saying that we cant establish how much Diminishing Returns will affect us as we don’t know how much DR is applied as we increase or gear?
I remember an interview stating how with shadowlands they wanted to obfuscate it as much as possible because they don’t want player simming, but rather then make it unneccesary to sim it feels like they’ve bloated the amount of variables to make it more of a hassle to SIM
if I had to guess they hoped people would pick covenants for more then performance, it may have worked in the first few weeks, but the majority of people just go for the highest number now.
I mean, if you want to do anything remotely challenging such as Mythic Raiding and even Heroic to some extent, you kind of need to sim, luckily it’s really not that hard anymore and is as easy as Crtl-C and Crtl-V and clicking a few options and pressing go. It’s not a huge problem and it’ll probably never be fixed as the genie is out of the bottle. If they do changes, people will still sim their characters.
You do need to sim, if you don’t then you’re shooting yourself in the foot as you have no idea what the best item is, because even though something may be higher item level, it may be worse for you, and thus is worse for your raid, and makes things harder than it ought to be, that’s what it’s figuring out.
You absolutely do need raid addons. The fights are designed around you having them. It’s why the bosses have gotten so complex and difficult.
That’s a warped way of looking at it imo.
Those crutches are not needed, but they’ve been normalized and people are being lead to believe they ‘need’ them.
It always strikes me as all kinds of funny when I hear people talking about ‘I want the hardest challenge in the game’ and then they proceed to do any- and everything in their power to try and make that challenge less of a challenge.
My conclusion: People don’t really want a challenge. They want glory. They want bragging rights. And the easier they can get that, the better.
It’s not about being lazy or crutches its about making the difference between a 2% wipe and a kill, being optimal will kill the add that runs in and spams heavy aoe on the raid faster, that will result in the healers not letting a DPS die or running out of mana.
As raids have evolved over the years more and more mechanics have been added, addons help you become aware of what’s going on around you to react faster.
Because you have posted on a character that has only done LFR its impossible to know what experience you have beyond that, but if that is all the experience you have saying you have done well enough doesn’t mean anything being as it appears you may have only done the easy content.
Tahra post on a character with more experience than LFR, right now you sound like someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about because you’ve never seen inside a heroic or mythic current raid
no its because blizzard has been designing raids with addons in mind for over 10 years at this point. intentionally gimping yourself by not using what’s provided to you for free, and allowed by the game designers, is not needing a crutch at all.
when you have fights like Sire that are pretty obviously designed with people using addons and timers in mind, it’s really not that much of a stretch to say that you want the difficulty these fights provide while also using addons to make them reasonable/manageable (whichever word you wanna use).
