Why do you play retail, and not classic?

I’m already played through it while it was actual, see no reason to repeat old done content instead of new one. And I find current retail much better, than classic gameplay.

Retail: solo queue pvp, I always wanted to dive in more in pvp trough the years but doing pve never game the time to do that. I’m not currently playing retail at the moment since I have reached my goal for the season (getting the challenger title, maybe next one I will push for 1600).

Classic: getting the same PvE results that I was targeting in retail (clearing all PvE raid content in his current patch) but with less time investement. Let me explain, now in classic we are in the ICC raid and with my guild we are now 11/12 HC and progressing troughs LK hc. To get at the some point in retail (mythic fyrakk) I would have to spend way more time in game to raid or do more actvities. With my current job schedule and other business that I am working on it’s impossible for me to play at the level I would like to at the moment.

And simpler spec where you don’t have to track hundreds of RNG procs from spec/cd that if you don’t do so you basically do 0 dps/heal.

I prefer the more “active” kind of gameplay that retail has compared to classic.

In vanilla, the rotation of specs rarely had much depth, if any, and most casters were about spamming 1-2 buttons 95% of the time. And the end game was more about farming the right gear than the actual boss fights. The world also feels like a forced slug fest where it’s more of a tedious experience rather than offering any kind of difficulty or challenge.

Retail specs have much more depth in their playstyle and in most cases have nice and well flowing rotations. And the end game is more about good execution of mechanics while playing your spec well enough to do the damage, rather than having the right gear. The world feels more fun to play through as well.

The reasons above are why I technically first started playing WoW around 2008, but didn’t really get into it properly until Legion dropped.

I would miss the QoL features too much. My eyesight was a lot better back when I played it originally and even then I had to run around looking for flightmasters etc. Being able to do a /tar on a mob and see where it is on the minimap is very useful for a lot of quests etc.

I’d quite like to see the old zones and stories again (no interest in raiding or that) but I’d rather they did it with Zidormu with all the mod-cons of retail wow.

I did play classic, all the versions, when they were on the first time round.

Apart from dipping into SoD a wee bit I have no interest in revisiting traumatising content.

I love leveling alts in downtime, and it is just a better experience in my opinion, to level in retail (less downtime).

I do the raids, the occasional key, maybe some pvp, otherwise I level alts.

Classes to me feel more fun to play in retail, you get access to more abilities, easier swapping between talents, more customization options, transmog etc.

If classic stopped and had a server per version, I be more interested in it. It’s just a delayed retail after vanilla. Same old time limits on content that will come and then go. Some may like making arrows and bullets, some may want to do the extra stuff brought in with each expansion and not rush it.

I was interested in MoP again but if that’s going to be a time limit only thing before WoD then I lost interest in it.

I play both. Retail because it’s still enjoyable, and it’s where the bulk of the roleplay community is.

Classic because I enjoy it equally, I like the pace and the zones.
Admittedly I’d prefer a tbc server but is what it is.

Current content more fun classes (mostly). Pugging is easier for dungeons and raids. Flex raid be 40 man. There’s a lot of reasons

I play both. They are two very different games.

If I want a journey(leveling), I play classic(not cata classic). If I want to raid or just collect stuff, I play retail.

I play retail because of the focus on end-game content and because of how polished specs are.

Playing classic would require me to grind PVE mobs with auto attacks and filler spells. But once the nostalgia wears off, you’re left with a prehistoric spec with a boring rotation

speaking as someone who played since classic.

Classic is boring, the playstyle is slow and boring as I preffer the much faster pace on Retail wow.

From a RPG perspective classic is more like a dnd campaign with more focus on the journey, while retail wow has a much stronger end game and is a bit more action rpg oriented which I preffer these days. :dracthyr_shrug:

It’s community, unfortunately.

It was amazing at launch, but then the dust settled and even «chill» and «family» guilds I was in went insane about parsing with world buffs and GDKP, which cut me off raiding – this is not what I came to Classic for. Eventually I faced the same problem in TBCC and WOTLKC, and simply gave up. Sort of same happened in Hardcore – it was hella fun at the start, but then people started rushing, guild I was in disbanded as GM gave up and officers transferred to some boring streamer guild with GDKP dungeons. And I simply didn’t find inner power to start over in SoD.

Retail on the other hand is very chill and forgiving. I can always come back and Silvermoon will stand healthy over the years, I can simply level alts, farm mounts, pets and achievements and (as of DF) attend any high-end content without 3 months of leveling and additional month of prequest preparation. Retail is insanely flexible when it comes to how much time and powers you can invest in game and which playstyle you prefer.

Also, cosmetics is on another level and a part of the game too, which is suddenly huge point for me lol.

Simple retail has a future and classic is already solved and combat is simple and boring.

I have played from when classic was retail and have fond memories, tried it again with a hunter when they reintroduced it and thought, did I really have to feed by pet and buy arrows. good grief!!

Collecting mounts, tmog, and pets. :slightly_smiling_face::+1: And PvP.

Although I have considered trying Hardcore Classic, to see what Classic is all about.

Because as I get older, I have less patience.

Playing classic is like packing up an old and dusty console, eagerly setup a scart to hdmi adapter into the monitor, initiate the once favorite game of old and feel sad realising it’s hard to see anything as your eyes have grown accustomed to higher resolution…

Everything is old with zero mystery or potential enjoyment, the layout is there but nothing more really.

This. So boring.

I’d say that MoP is the very last one they could get away with. Even then I feel Cata is too far unless they’re going for some sort of surprise overhaul.

I’d like to see Classic 2 again, and yeah part of why I didn’t joing TBC was that it was going to be wiped out for Wrath. Don’t really feel much point trying much with a Wrath toon I had cos I might as well focus on my Retail mains who have done Wrath. They have transitioned expansions.

Classic was perfect for being nostalgic. It should really stay in that area. SoD seems pretty interesting tbh.
