Why do you raid?

I quit progression raiding sometimes between BFA and SL because I found it boring keep wiping on the same boss for hours for the mistakes of some guildie or me (yeah I’m not perfect).

Yesterday I was in a raid where I spend hours trying to kill a boss HC and I was ashamed to even think to leave the group because they are my guild.

I felt like I’ve been taken hostage and tortured. Was not a pleasant experience. I’d rather do M+ instead.

Why do you raid? Do you enjoy it?

I think at the beginning, I raided because I wanted that experience of accomplishment of beating something difficult (back in the day when the game was not catered to the casual player).

Then as time went on, I did those raids for gear upgrades, then I went back to old raids for transmogs & achievements.

Now in Dragonflight (I stopped playing just after season 1 was release and return just before Season 3 starts). I’m doing the raids & other content as a way to pass the time, until another game comes out, which I may be interested in playing.

Then of course once I’ve got my fill from that game, just like everyone else I return to WoW to get my fix of content and then rinse & repeat.

Aside from some BiS raiding is quite unrewarding compared to M+.

That’s the neat part: I don’t

Mostly for the fun of it. Raided since late TBC and I long stopped caring about that “shinny purple” in the end. Raiding with them guild/raid team members is a reward in itself. The banter, atmosphere and the “we did it boyz!” cheer is simply trilling.

Ofc for those who only raid for the purple shinny and the rest of the people could be just bots/NPC for all they care, they will never understand it…

I’m probably over it now, the peak for me was having a close team in MoP where we all got along well and got a realm first or two.

All the self interested douches now make me wonder why I ever bother. The raids are all same old same old these days, they probably just drop good trinkets for m+ which is what I prefer.

I just raid to get the AOTC mount because I like it, but noone takes my 480 ilvl char to hc fyrakk because i don’t have curve. Oh well, it’s gonna take a while but I’m getting there

Raiding is, and will possibly always be, the biggest core endgame pillar of WOW.

Even if you don’t like PVE, you’ll most likely still step into the raid at least once.

I like it for the social aspect and “doing something with people”. I largely play with people I’ve known for years, though. Haven’t downed Fyrakk in HC yet, but we arrived there last week, so it’s just a matter of time. It’s all fairly casual and laid back, often pretty entertaining with lots of voice chatting.

I just joined from earlier bosses even if it meant repeating them. I raid with my guild too but wanted curve

That’s basically why I’m avoiding it but at the same time it can be fun and fulfilling to do it. Especially on a new role/class that intimidated you before. It can also be a reason to spend time with friends. I will NOT reclear weekly for mounts and gear though. Only if they lack a role i can currently play.

Although when skill levels differ THAT much it gets painful. The one time i actually ranted while playing wow(it was in my own chat that nobody could see but it’s still the only time i actually got mad playing) was when people just couldn’t deal with Anduin’s divine orb skill no matter what. So they kept dying and dying. Try not to raid with people whose skill levels are much higher or lower than yours. It’s not going to be enjoyable.

The only times I’ve enjoyed it was with people I cared about. I don’t particularly love raiding, I don’t particularly care about loot, I did love spending time with those people. At some point, for multiple reasons, I realised I felt rather shackled by schedules and raid group management, and that tipped the balance for me. I’ve given it a few shots since, but I kept bumping into the same conclusion: I don’t enjoy it enough to want to deal with the, for me, downsides. So I don’t.

I get the feeling you describe. It sucks lol.

Because it’s fun to progress through challenges with friends. I agree that technically M+ is better designed in almost every aspect but open end difficulty has no appeal to me. I play every game on the highest setting, whether I can beat it or not.

Mostly for some bis items and to speed up gearing at the start of the season. I enjoy progressing bosses at a reasonable pace. As soon as the raid is in farm, and I got the items I wanted out of it, I’m done. Luckily I found a guild this season with similar goals, so that worked out perfectly.

I really dislike raiding when you can’t progress because the same people make the same mistakes over and over. That’s how it was with my old guild, and I probably wouldn’t have raided at all this season, if I stayed with them. I think finding a guild with similar goals and skill level is the most important to make raiding enjoyable.

I started in TBC and really stop bothering with raiding after WotLK’s Naxxramas.

These days, M+ is more chill and better for gearing. Easier to setup a group aswell vs a whole army who will fight for just a few loot drops lol. Raiding still has the same designs from decades ago, but they don’t really work well now imo.

Just as you I found that wasting hours on the same boss because of one tiny mistake, forced to follow strict schedules, getting frustrated for stupid stuff… is not a good gaming session experience.

These days I’m just collecting stuff like tmogs. I’m looking forward to delves since I enjoy outdoor content in MMOs.

I don’t anymore, and the exact same reason as you.

I gave up on it.

I tried to raid, we wiped twice, on the run back after the second I just felt myself really wanting to do something else.

So I just alt+f4’d the game dead and went and did something I want to do.

Whisper it quietly, but raiding in WoW is a chore.

Yes - i enjoy the simplier raiding of classic wolk -mop era.

I’m back to raiding for good just in classic.

Raiding is retail is way to complicated and messy for my liking .

Yes im to bad for mythic raiding in retail . And im ok with that.

I will enjoy all of cata and mop classic raids as i loved that era of raiding back in the day

Hope blizz keeps at least 1 wolk forever server too so i can jump to icc when i feel like it

TBH raiding is very boring content.

Yes killing an endboss for the 1. time is thrilling. Finding the right way that works for your guild / group. Then trying to execute it, failing, getting better and hearing everyones joy in the discord, when the boss is down.

But after that? I guess its only fun for min maxers, that think they need that one trinket, weapon for perfect stats.

I like adventures and new challanges, wich are there but used up in the first 1-2 weeks sometimes the same day a new patch hits.

Thats why i like M+ more. Every run is different. Every run an adventure on its own.

It always makes me smile when M+ players claim their content is less repetitive than raiding

If I had enough social credit I’d link the spider mans pointing at each other meme.
